Heavy snow on Vail Pass made for dangerous driving conditions on Sunday. Cars were off the roadways in parts of Utah and Colorado with overturned vehicles as well!
Over the last couple of days, parts of Utah received up to 3 FEET of snowfall with parts of Wyoming seeing shy of 4 feet of snow. That lead to dangerous driving along I-70, I-80 and many mountain roadways.
Parts of Colorado's backcountry are still looking at avalanche concerns due to the unstable snowpack. Additional snowfall in the Laramie Range of 1-2" has prompted the continuation of Winter Storm Warnings in the region (pink). If you are headed to the backcountry, please use EXTREME caution while skiing, snowboarding or any winter sport and carry an avalanche beacon.
We won't stay dry for long in the 4 Corners region or the Rockies, our next round of winter weather is highlighted in the extended forecast for the weekend. Right now, model estimates are for the heaviest snow through the Cascades and Northwest with some additional snowfall in Wyoming's Tetons and Colorado's Rockies.
