CONNECTICUT - Torrential rainfall led to catastrophic flooding in portions of Long Island and southwestern Connecticut this past weekend. Rainfall started the evening of Saturday, August 17th and rainfall totals continued through Monday, August 19th.
The National Weather Service of New York, NY reported rainfall totals between 6-10"+ across southwestern Connecticut and into New York, with totals of over a foot in the city of Oxford, Connecticut from Saturday through Monday.
This amount of rainfall led to a State of Emergency being declared by Governor Ned Lamont in response to the severe flooding in Connecticut. This has been declared in hopes of expediting the resources needed for clean-up efforts and infrastructure damage. Governor Lamont also confirmed in a press conference Monday the following:
2 fatalities were confirmed in Oxford, CT after their vehicles were swept away in flood waters
Over 100 evacuated
Numerous water rescues
