Q&A with Patrick Crawford
What inspired you to become a meteorologist?
I knew I wanted to be a meteorologist when I was a Junior in high school. We would get major thunderstorms in North Texas, and I would always turn to local news for the very latest weather forecasts. I was just so mesmerized at how you could analyze all this weather data and predict the future with that information. I was hooked!
What is your most memorable weather experience?
That would have to be covering tropical weather in New Orleans. During my time there, I covered two named storms that hit the Louisiana coast; Tropical Storm Lee in 2011 and Hurricane Isaac in 2012. We were doing continuous coverage and sleeping at the station. It’s something that I will never forget.
Outside of weather, what are your hobbies or interests?
I enjoy sports, texas hold'em and playing fantasy football. Since the pandemic, I also got back into collecting sports cards. My favorite card is my 1981 Topps Joe Montana Rookie Card.
Besides your parents, who has influenced you the most in your life?
All the great meteorologists I have worked with over my career! Their knowledge and my experience working with them has greatly influenced me through my life.
What is a little known fact about you?
I am the youngest of five with two brothers and two sisters.
What are your hopes and dreams for the profession of weather?
I really want weather forecasts to continue advancing. The technology we have to forecast weather is amazing. I can’t wait to see what weather products and technology looks like 10 years from now!
