Q&A with Tracey Anthony
About Tracey:
Born and raised in Minnesota, Tracey grew up experiencing all types of weather. Tracey has worked covering national weather and local weather for over 10 years. She is looking forward to being back with WeatherNation, and getting to experience more tropical weather first hand.
What inspired you to become a meteorologist?
To be honest, it never really occurred to me growing up that this was a career path I could take. I was a Freshman in college and one of my coworkers at my summer job was going to school for Meteorology and when I heard that it was like a light bulb just went off in my head. That is what I wanted to do. I went home later that day and told my mom I was transferring schools and switching my major to Meteorology.
What is your most memorable weather experience?
New Orleans, 2020, the eye of Hurricane Zeta. I was covering the storm for WeatherNation, and just to feel the conditions from the eye wall, to this extreme calm and peace in the eye is something I will never forget.
Outside of weather, what are your hobbies and interests?
I like to do anything outdoors! If the sun is out, I like to be outside. I lived in CO for 3 years and loved the Mountains. Now I love living in West Palm Beach, FL and am experiencing all that Florida life has to offer!
Besides your parents, who has influenced you the most in your life?
In the world of weather, my mentor Mace Michaels has probably had the most influence. He has been a great friend and has been a part of my journey since I was an intern. He coached me through doing my first on-air shows and through many career decisions. He is a wealth of knowledge and someone I still go to when I need personal or professional advice.
What is a little-known fact about you?
I was an NFL cheerleader in 2013 for the Minnesota Vikings.
