Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

Grab the pumpkin spice and apple cider donuts, fall foliage is started to grace some areas across the United States, with more developing this week! The latest forecast from <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.explorefall.com/fall-foliage-map">Explore Fall</a> (top of page) shows developing color across the Rockies, Cascades, High Sierra, and the Upper-Midwest, near the Canadian border, over the next seven days (September 8th - 14th). Recent wildfire activity in the Sierra may make color there a bit more muted or highly variable between patches of trees. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-08 104753-1757350314424.png">Color has already been showing some for areas in the map above (yellow areas), mostly in the Rockies and Cascades. In fact, we've seen the Bigtooth Maples change quite a bit in the Wasatch Mountains near Salt Lake City!<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1964055938010067402" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1964055938010067402"></div>The most 30 days prior to the appearance of fall color are the most important for vibrancy during the peak season, but drought conditions can also lead to more muted color or variable conditions. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-08 105237-1757350392233.png">For great fall color, sunny days with cool, crisp nights are preferable. The Eastern Pacific Basin has been active over the past week, with Hurricane Lorena dissipating near Baja but still causing flooding issues. Kiko has reached category 4 status three times, but is expected to continue weakening as it approaches the Hawaiian Islands.According to Hawaii's acting governor, Hawaii remains under a<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://governor.hawaii.gov/newsroom/office-of-the-governor-news-release-emergency-proclamation-issued-ahead-of-hurricane-kiko/#&amp;_intcmp=fxw_weather-news_article_main-content_article-body_2_2"> state of emergency</a> as Hurricane Kiko continues to move closer to the islands, despite the lack of direct tropical storm impacts. <h1>KIKO</h1>Hurricane Kiko continues to churn west-northwest at around 15 mph and is now a Category 1 storm. The forecast cone brings Kiko north of the Hawaiian Islands by at least 80 miles, far enough away to limit impacts. Expect rainfall and breezy conditions as it passes, but the larger impacts will be high surf expected to reach the Hawaiian Islands. These swells could cause life-threatening surf and rip currents.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-08 073928-1757338778414.png">Kiko's tropical storm force wind field is thankfully small enough to completely miss the Hawaiian Islands. Gusts 20-30 mph may occur, which are too weak to cause damage.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-08 073956-1757338806957.png">Big swells and strong currents are the most likely impacts to Hawaii from Kiko. Dangerous currents could last through much of the week as Kiko's wind field continues to generate large waves.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/FORECAST-1757296747642.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Another potential area of development over the open waters has a low chance of developing in the next seven days. A center of low pressure has formed, but any development in the short or mid-range is not expected.

Hawaii: What to Know About Hurricane Kiko

CALIFORNIA - Wildfires in the western U.S. continue to burn, impacting air quality across much of the country. The Garnet Fire, which began in the Sierra National Forest on August 24, 2025, has prompted a <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.fs.usda.gov/r05/sierra/alerts/garnet-fire-closure-order">partial forest closure </a>near the fire.According to the Fresno County Sheriff's Department, some evacuation orders are in effect in the area. The fire has now burned over 49,000 acres and is approximately 14% contained as of Monday morning.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-08 100540-1757347548782.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-07 172758-1757287794749.png">As of Monday morning, a dense smoke advisory has now been issued through Monday morning, with visibility reduced to 1 mile or less due to heavy smoke. Air quality alerts are also in effect.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-07 172935-1757287845564.png">Hazardous Air Quality (the worst category) begins when particulate or ozone levels reach over 300 parts per million. Parts of the Sierra and western Nevada reported particulate matter (2.5 microns) at over 1300 ppm Monday morning, more than four times the threshold. If you're in air quality this bad, avoid going outdoors and if you do wear a medical mask. Change air filters in your car or home if running the fan or air conditioning.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-08 100710-1757347637162.png">The HRRR smoke forecast shows the heaviest smoke will develop overnight and persist into Monday morning.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/seoqui-1757287868108.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h2>Northwest</h2>Fires burning in the Northwest and in British Columbia, Canada, have worsened air quality across the region and, over the past weekend, even reached the central U.S. If you’ve noticed hazy skies, the smoke from these wildfires is the cause.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-07 173222-1757287993801.png">When air quality alerts are issued, people with respiratory sensitivities should limit time outdoors. Smoke Creates Dangerously Hazardous Air Quality in California

Patrick Crawford has always been a huge weather buff! He grew up in Plano, Texas, and it was there that he experienced what Mother Nature was capable of doing. He would always turn on the television to see what local meteorologists were saying about the weather. That's when he realized he wanted to be a meteorologist.

Patrick graduated from Northern Illinois University (’04) with a degree in Meteorology and a double minor in Mathematics and Geography. Broadcast Meteorology has been great to him and he has been able to work in television markets all across the country. Some of his stops have included New Orleans, Green Bay and even Yuma, Arizona. He is so excited to be part of the WeatherNation team.

He has been awarded the prestigious CBM (Certified Broadcast Meteorologist) weather seal from the American Meteorological Society.

While we're only a few days removed from the month of August, it's been feeling more like November for some! A slew of 20 degrees low temperatures invaded the Plains and Rockies on Saturday morning. Another round of cold lows led to frost advisories being issued for 5 states through Sunday morning, with temperatures below freezing for quite a few of these places (top of page)!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-07 072916-1757251762587.png">The cooler air continues to push south and east, leading to well below average temperatures for the eastern third of the country heading into the work week and a round of potential record low temperatures Monday morning from Tennessee to Massachusetts.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Web1-1757323464107.png">While temperatures have bottomed out under clear skies at night, sunshine during the day has been modifying the cold airmass. As it is still early September, the sun angle remains quite high in the sky! Temps Drop Below Freezing the Midwest, Cool Air Pushes East

UPDATE: A tropical disturbance in the eastern Atlantic now has a 0% chance of becoming a tropical depression within the next seven days. This is a significant drop from Friday, when the wave had a high chance to develop, up to 90%! No activity in the Atlantic is expected in the short term, but conditions through the rest of the month should allow for additional tropical development. Over the next few days, a massive plume of Saharan dust is expected to move into the Atlantic, reducing chances for thunderstorms to organize.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/FORECAST-1757290495513.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>The next tropical systems in the Atlantic could form through the middle and end of September, which is typically the peak of hurricane season. The Climate Prediction Center shows several regions in the next few weeks with low to moderate confidence in development.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-06 063404-1757162059921.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-06 063411-1757162066655.png">Do not let your guard down. September is historically the peak of hurricane season, and ocean conditions remain favorable for additional development. Whether or not this particular system develops into a named storm, it serves as a reminder that the Atlantic remains active and that the window for tropical threats is far from closed. WESTERN PLAINS - The Storm Prediction Center has maintained a MARGINAL (level 1 out of 5) risk for severe storms both today and tomorrow east of the front range and into the Plains. On Monday, the risk region includes more of Texas, the Oklahoma Panhandle, and Kansas.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Web1-1757322564759.png"><h2>Forecast Timing</h2>Afternoon heating will promote thunderstorm initialization, but as we head into the overnight, storms are likely to hold their strength. New storms appear to form off the boundaries of these storms, but will still favor afternoon heating on Monday.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/FORECAST-1757296583420.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Rainfall totals may grow upwards of a couple of inches in the Plains. 1-2+" are likely, so an excessive rainfall outlook has been issued at a level 1, marginal, risk.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-07 165518-1757285857485.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Web3-1757322591877.png">More updates are on the way on WeatherNation.

Monday Severe Threat For the Plains

The severe weather risk has been removed from the forecast for the Northeastern U.S.. Areas of the Northeast did see large hail and damaging winds. The heavy rain threat will continue through Sunday across the Northeast and that means a risk for some flash flooding.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/PIC 2-1757210229660.jpg"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/PIC 4-1757210239810.jpg">We currently don't have a severe weather outlook for Sunday, but areas along the coast of North Carolina and Massachusetts (Cape and the Islands) could see a few severe storms early Sunday.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/FORECAST-1757204091287.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Rainfall totals could surpass 2-4 inches in a few areas, posing the threat for localized flooding. A marginal to slight risk for flooding has been issued by the Weather Prediction Center (WPC).<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/PIC 2-1757204126820.jpg">WeatherNation will have more updates online and on-air.

The state of Alabama is prone to seeing various types of weather from severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and winter weather. For college, Jesse attended the University of South Alabama where he received his degree in Broadcast Meteorology along with minors in Math and Geography. From Alabama, Jesse started his broadcast television working three years at KAVU-TV in Victoria. Recently, he finished a stint in Shreveport, LA. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/1-1739061270112.png">Around 6PM ET, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake was detected in the Western Caribbean between the Cayman Islands and Honduras. Over the past few hours, there has been a few aftershocks near the epicenter. Also, there has been a few smaller earthquakes near Puerto Rico.According to the USGS, it is not out of the ordinary to see earthquakes at this location. The last earthquake nearby this location was back in January 2018 with a magnitude of 7.5. A small tsunami was caused similar to tonight's earthquake. The danger of tsunamis have ended and there is no threat to the Gulf waters.We will keep you updated as this is a developing story.
