<p><strong>WEST </strong>- A series of atmospheric rivers has been responsible for wet, windy, and snowy weather in the northwestern U.S. The next round of rain and snow is taking shape as our next river pushes in. The good news is that impacts will not be as widespread and will mostly be localized to the Pacific Northwest, and the Olympics in particular.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/1-1761966244610.png"></p><p>Snowfall and rainfall totals will not be as heavy as they were this past weekend and into the early work week, but some areas should look for impacts as you head out on the roads.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/1-1761966280626.png"></p><p></p><p>Here's the "atmospheric river" we are referring to. This constant stream of moisture from the Pacific directed towards the northwest looks to favor weekend rainfall for Washington State and a little bit for Oregon. <h3><strong>Melissa made landfall on Tuesday, October 28th, around 1:00 PM ET near New Hope, Jamaica, as a Category 5 hurricane, the 3rd strongest Hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic Basin, with a central pressure dropping to 892 mb. Maximum sustained winds were estimated at 185 mph.</strong></h3><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1984077869409325158" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1984077869409325158"></div><h3><strong>Hurricane Melissa made its second landfall in eastern Cuba early Wednesday near the city of Chivirico as a Category 3 storm before moving past Bermuda Thursday night.</strong></h3><ul><li><p>Catastrophic and life-threatening flash flooding caused major damage in Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba.</p></li><li><p>Wind damage is widespread and catastrophic across western Jamaica.</p></li><li><p>Melissa is now a post-tropical cyclone, bringing gusty winds and heavy rain to eastern Canada.</p></li></ul><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1983196616640299223" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1983196616640299223"></div><p>Melissa is now a post-tropical low, meaning it now longer gets its energy from tropical processes. It has past Bermuda and continues to weaken, but it still has category 1 strength winds. This will mean gusty conditions and rain for the Maritime Provinces of Canada. Melissa Post-Tropical After Bringing Catastrophic Impacts to Western Jamaica

<p style="margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;"><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; color: #454545;">Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

<p>An upper-level low has been moving across the country, bringing rainy, windy, and cooler weather to many areas. Heavy rain caused flooding issues in the Northeast on Thursday where over 3 inches of rain fell in New York and New Jersey. The system moves out later tonight but parts of Northern New England could see some light snow.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/New Baron Video 3-1761966114231.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>We may even see minor snow accumulations in parts of the Adirondacks, as well as the Green and White mountains.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/1-1761966147465.png"></p><p>As the rain clears, expect cloudy, cool, and gusty conditions to persist into Saturday morning. <p>I will never forget the time it snowed in southwest Missouri on Halloween. Going from house to house for as long as we could stand it before piling back in the car because we were so cold. It doesn't USUALLY snow that early in Springfield, or any other part of the country for that matter this early into Fall.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-27 111421-1761585271271.png">So let's see if Mother Nature is feeling in the mood to traumatize more youth this upcoming weekend.</p><h1>Forecast</h1><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/2025-10-31 06-01-58-1761912346800.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>Low-pressure systems will create some heavy rain in the corners of the country with some drizzle in the Midwest. Clear and dry conditions will persist for much of the country with mild temperatures for many.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/2025-10-31 06-02-14-1761912160076.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>TROUBLE SPOTS</h1><p>"Trouble" means a lot of different things for people on Halloween. Trouble, to us, is going to mean rain. Not much worse than spending all of that time and energy into a costume just to get rained on. While you might see some rain icons in the forecast in the northeast, there's a strong possibility we kick the rain out by the afternoon/evening, when it matters, except for portions of northern New York and Vermont. We're concerned with some areas in the Northwest, like Seattle, where the rain might be both consistent and heavy at times. Coldest spot will likely be in the Upper Midwest, but any lingering cloud cover should help keep temps from freezing during trick-or-treat hours.</p><h1>PICK OF THE NATION</h1><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-27 111630-1761585733352.png">When. Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation.
