<p><strong>HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL</strong> - As temperatures begin to dip as part of an <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/Arctic%20Blast%20To%20Bring%20Freezing%20Air%20to%20Millions%20of%20Americans"><strong>arctic blast set to impact millions</strong></a> across the eastern tier of the country, one Florida county is opening warming shelters ahead of the cold weather.</p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1987939977561571410" src="https://x.com/CityofTampa/status/1987939977561571410"></div><p>At least six warming shelters across Hillsborough County will be open on Monday, November 10th, and Tuesday, November 11th to help house those weather the chilly temps. Meteorologist Jesse Kelley is excited to join the talented staff at Weather Nation. Jesse spent most of his childhood in Birmingham, Alabama. The state of Alabama is prone to seeing various types of weather from severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and winter weather. For college, Jesse attended the University of South Alabama where he received his degree in Broadcast Meteorology along with minors in Math and Geography. <p>They aren't out to suck your blood, and they're definitely not rodents, but bats still get a bad wrap and are associated with the spookiest season of all. There are two that will be visible with the assistance of binoculars or a telescope tonight, and for the next few nights.</p><h2>LEMMON</h2><p>Comet Lemmon will be the easiest to spot tonight. Simply a pair of binoculars should be all you need. Find the Big Dipper and loow a little west from there and you should be able to spot it!</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-21 110414-1761066269539.png"></p><h2>SWAN</h2><p>This is the dimmest of the two and might require the help of a telescope. Look to the south after twilight for the best chance.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-21 105821-1761066265799.png">Want the best chance to spot either or both of these tonight? Getting out of the city is always a good idea, but giving your eyes plenty of time to adjust will help. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-21 110632-1761066400003.png">You're going to have NO SHOT if you're stuck in the clouds tonight. Luckily, many of us have a pretty clear night in store, with the lone exception around the Great Lakes. FORECAST: Comets Should Be Visible for Many Tonight

<p>Over the weekend of October 11th, and 12th, thousands of Alaskan residents along the western coast were slammed by the remnants of Typhoon Halong. The one super typhoon dipped below typhoon level strength, but still packed a powerful punch as it battered the coastline.</p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1978936489565212816" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1978936489565212816"></div><p>Nearly 100 mile per hour winds were recorded and storm surge swept homes off their foundations, leading to one of the most significant airlifts in Alaskan history as coastal villages were evacuated.</p><p>The communities of Kipnuk and Kwigillingok saw water levels more than 6 feet above their highest tide cycles.</p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1978173969028272296" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1978173969028272296"></div><p>Multiple shelters across the state have been opened for those whose lives have been impacted by the storm, but many of the communities are not accessible by roads and can only be reached via boat or airplane, making it a challenge for relief work to be done in the area. Local officials said even with emergency repairs many homes will not be livable by winter.</p><p>More than 1000 residents have been evacuated to various locations. Evacuees have been taken to Anchorage, but the trip is over 500 miles away, and while some shelters closer to home like Bethel, AK are open, they have already reached capacity.</p><p>We spoke with multiple organizations assisting with the relief efforts to learn more on what the disaster relief looks like, and the challenges they face to help these communities recover.</p><h1><u>WORLD CENTRAL KITCHEN:</u></h1><p>This is the second time WCK has responded to typhoon flooding in Alaska. In 2022, the remnants of Typhoon Merbok pounded Alaska's western coast, affecting 21,000 people during the peak of hunting and gathering season. Together with local groups, WCK delivered fresh food and water to families in need.&nbsp;</p><p>Our teams are flying across the flood-devastated regions of western Alaska to provide dry goods and warm meals to communities in need. October is Leave the Leaves Month

<p style="margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;"><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; color: #454545;">Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

<p>La Niña was observed in September, leading to NOAA issuing a La Niña advisory. These conditions are expected to persist through winter into spring, with impacts likely for the upcoming winter season and beyond into next spring. La Niña often plays a role in determining storm tracks during the winter season and severe weather into the spring.</p><h1>What is La Niña?</h1><p>La Niña is one phase of a large circulation over the equatorial Pacific Ocean. The prevalent wind direction will churn up cooler or warmer water, based on the direction of the circulation. When winds are prevailing from the east, it churns up cooler waters near the coast of South America and to the west, while areas in the western Pacific see warmer than average water temperatures during this phase. These cooler waters, along with other large scale circulations, impact how air flows across the United States.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-10 110029-1760115646348.png">During strong La Niñas, the jet stream is typically more active from the Northwest through the Great Lakes. This effect is typically less pronounced during weaker events. This often favors better chances for precipitation across the northern tier of the country, including the Northwest and Great Lakes.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-10 095632-1760111817342.png"></p><h1>Impact for Winter 25'-26'</h1><p>NOAA releases their outlook for the upcoming winter season this Thursday (October 16th) but the Climate Prediction Center continuously updates outlooks for three month periods. These outlooks likely won't change much with next week's update but we'll bring you that forecast when it's released. The temperature and precipitation outlooks for December - February show conditions typical for a La Niña year, with below average temperatures favored in the Pacific Northwest.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-10 095641-1760111827269.png"></p><p>The precipitation outlook also favors conditions fairly typical for a La Niña winter, with above average precipitation favored around the Northern Rockies and Great Lakes/Ohio Valley.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-10 095637-1760111827269.png"></p><h1>Spring Severe Weather / Tornado Impacts</h1><p>La Niña is expected to decay through the spring months, which can have a big impact on the severe weather season. <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.gfdl.noaa.gov/research_highlight/u-s-regional-tornado-outbreaks-and-their-links-to-spring-enso-phases-and-north-atlantic-sst-variability/">Studies have shown</a> a increase in the potential for tornado outbreaks over certain areas of the country as La Niña decays into a neutral or El Niño phase. These favored areas include the Central/Southern Plains and around the lower Great Lakes into the Mid-Mississippi Valley.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-10 105635-1760115430383.png"></p><p>This phase also <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/ENSO_Tornado_Lee.pdf">favors stronger tornadoes</a>, as the number of high end tornadoes and outbreaks increase during this phase.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-10 100658-1760112433708.png"></p><p>Seasonal forecasts are difficult to predict with accuracy, so be sure to check the weather forecasts often with WeatherNation for the latest.</p>

La Niña Advisory Issued, Potential Impacts to Winter Precip & Springtime Tornadoes

<p>Flash flooding will continue to be possible in the southwestern United States over the next couple of days. Be sure to <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://msc.fema.gov/portal/home">check your property's flood zone</a> and have a plan to seek higher ground if necessary. NEVER drive through flood waters if you cannot easily see the water's depth or the road below it. Multiple water rescues have been needed over the past few days. Remember, you're not only risking your life but the lives of the first responders if you drive into flooded roads.</p><p></p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1978098719095406800" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1978098719095406800"></div><p><br><br>The remnant moisture from the two most recent tropical systems in the Eastern Pacific, Priscilla and Raymond, led to heavy showers and thunderstorms over a wide range of terrain throughout the weekend. And now a trough out west and a ridge out east are helping to funnel moisture into New Mexico and Colorado.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Web1-1760520329985.png"></p><p>In addition to the flood threat, severe storms are possible through Wednesday as the trough moving through the northern Rockies increases wind shear farther south. Damaging wind gusts have been a problem already this week, with places like Tempe clocking 71 mph winds from a microburst.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Web7-1760520445087.png"></p><p>We have seen heavy rain and flooding with these storms, and that threat will continue over the next few days.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/2025-10-15 03-27-44-1760520491582.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>This surge of moisture across the southwest brings forth the chance for excessive rainfall in places like Alamosa, CO all the way down to Santa Fe, NM.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Web3-1760520692663.png"><br>As a result, multiple flood warnings have been issued for several spots near Durango, CO. Some of these areas are near rivers and streams, which in some cases like near Rio Grande, have already seen roughly 8" of rain since the past weekend. This causes these areas to be more prone to flooding once more rain is in the forecast.<br><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Web1-1760521119921.png"><br>We'll be detailing this more live on WeatherNation. That's what we call the King Tide, a phenomenon that occurs once or twice a year along the U.S. coastlines.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Web2-1759748881043.png"></p><p>Caused by what's called a "perigee", that highlights a very close distance between the Earth and the moon. It occurs on a monthly basis. Being that the moon drives the tidal cycles on Earth, it's close proximity elevates the high and low tides, making coastal flooding that much more possible. A "supermoon" is a byproduct of the perigee, occurring three to four times a year. However, the two tend to not overlap for most of Earth's orbit around the sun.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Web6-1759749414059.png"></p><p>We're also slowly trending towards "perihelion", the point in Earth's orbit where it's the closest to the Sun, this in turn will also enhance our tidal cycles. The combination of these three factors is what will bring us the "King Tide".</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Web7-1759750231408.png"></p><p>The combination of these three factors are what influences the "King Tide". Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. <p><strong>NORTH CAROLINA </strong>- These abandoned houses were no match for the powerful swells generated by Humberto and Imelda, which brought high surf, flooding, and heavy rain to the Outer Banks. It is believed that up to 8 homes have succumbed to the Atlantic Ocean in the last few days. </p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1973423019470233900" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1973423019470233900"></div><p>Up until last Tuesday, 12 homes had been swept away into the Atlantic in the Outer Banks since 2020. Why are so many homes being swept away, you may ask? In many cases, what protected a house decades ago is no longer sufficient because the shore has receded, sea levels are higher, and strong storms have been more frequent or powerful.</p><h2>Coastal Impacts</h2><p>Humberto and Imelda dissipated in the Atlantic, but dangerous swells will still be likely in their wake. <p>Monsoon season has come and gone; September 30th marked the end of the 2025 season. The American Monsoon season runs from June 15 until September 30, so let's see how the season shaped up.</p><p>The Drought Monitor mid-June had most of the southwestern U.S. under drought conditions, with New Mexico under the worst of the conditions, under exceptional, level 5 drought.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-30 203810-1759286479364.png">By September 23, the final drought monitor of the season, most of the southwest worsened drought conditions, but the Mojave Desert saw improving conditions, as well as New Mexico, where we needed it.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-30 203815-1759286732227.png"></p><p>With the rainfall last weekend, Phoenix surpassed the average for the monsoon season, but most of this rain happened in a day. Otherwise, it was more of a non-soon season.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-30 203836-1759286678352.png">Some spots, like Las Vegas, saw a below-average monsoon season. In fact, this year we tied for the 18th driest monsoon season.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-30 204800-1759286908942.png">How about looking at the season from a lightning perspective? Helene's eyewall passed about 10 miles west-southwest of Perry, Florida at 11:10 p.m. ET on Florida's Gulf Coast. In the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season, Helene was one of five landfalling storms along the Gulf coast, including three in Florida.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-24 135342-1758743646080.png"></p><div data-youtube-video=""><iframe width="640" height="480" allowfullscreen="false" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/5uqc6I6wcXM" start="0"></iframe></div><p>The remnants of Helene brought catastrophic flooding, which prompted a record 34 Flash Flood Emergencies across portions of Appalachia and Mid-South. Including the first ever for the city of Atlanta, GA after 11" of rain. The highest total from the storm topped out above 30" in North Carolina. A precursor event saturated the soils ahead of Helene. The USGS documented that the heavy rain on top of the impacted soils prompted more than 2000 landslides. 63 stream and river gauges exceeded their record flood levels during Helene. 2,700+ water rescues were documented, about half from storm surge and half from fresh water flooding.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/09/Screenshot 2024-09-27 160234-1727474573331.jpg"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-24 140622-1758744396604.png">According to <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="http://poweroutage.us">poweroutage.us</a>, a total of 7.4 million customers lost power at some point during Helene. Remembering Hurricane Helene: One Year Later

With photos and videos prove that skygaziers are spotting them much farther south in the United States and Europe over the last two years. It begs the question...Why are we seeing these geomagnetic storms that are far more reaching than normal? </p><p>The reason? The sun is undergoing a dramatic magnetic shift. Every 11 years, its poles reverse, creating intense magnetic twists and disturbances that fuel these vivid light shows.   </p><p>Aurora lovers, rejoice! The Space Weather Prediction Center said on Tuesday, November 11th, aurora chances are back and could be seen as far south as Alabama and Northern California. Space weather forecasters predict more dazzling displays through at least the end of the year.</p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1988294702827802778" src="https://x.com/NWSSWPC/status/1988294702827802778?s=20"></div><p>A coronal mass ejection (CME) is expected to arrive at and partially impact the Earth with the potential for elevated geomagnetic response, AKA: auroras. As of 12 pm ET on November 11th, the SWPC issued a Geomagnetic Storm Watch of G4 or higher.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/g scale-1762887156247.png"></p><h3><strong>THE FORECAST:</strong></h3><p>The organization goes on to say the aurora could be seen as far south as Alabama and Northern California. Below is the scheduled forecast for where the aurora will likely be visible should the forecast hold up.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Aurora Forecast-1762887274464.png"></p><p>The best time to see the aurora for places like Alabama, is between 9 pm and 12 pm CT on Tuesday. Solar Storm Visible as far south as Alabama - Why the Northern Lights (Auroras) are More Expansive Lately?

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

<p>The season’s first Arctic blast has surged into the South, arriving nearly three weeks ahead of meteorological winter, which begins December 1. Driven by a deep upper-level trough, this system has funneled frigid Canadian air all the way down to Texas. Multiple record lows were set this morning across the south and southeast, and the chance continues on Wednesday morning. Overnight lows will be in the 30s and 40s to start your day, so bundle up.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web 1-1762947369987.png"></p><p>Florida has the potential to see many record lows broken on Wednesday morning. Last Morning of Record Cold - Digging Out the Rest of the Week

<p>If it hasn't been wet, it's been warm out West. This week looks no different as our good friend, an Upper Level Ridge, will keep hold for the next day. That will keep the quiet weather around, but will start to push temperatures into historic levels by midweek. Plenty of records fell over the weekend and on Monday, from California to Arizona.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-10 201032-1762830639778.png">Temperatures are expected to run above average through the week in many of our southwestern cities.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/TRVO-1762905291384.png">Salt Lake City will see a high of 69° on Thursday. This city normally averages 54°. Denver, CO normally has an average of 55°, but will dig into the 70s on Friday! </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/DENVER CO -1762905718147.png">There is some good news in all of this: it's a short-lived snap of hot weather. By Tuesday and Wednesday, the breezy winds will back off, and that should help temperatures settle closer to normal for this time of year. Warm Weather for the Western U.S.

<p>Winter alerts have already been issued for the Sierra Nevada as a large digging trough disrupts the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/warm-weather-sticks-around-the-west">warm ridge that's been residing in the west</a>. The west can expect widespread rain chances, mountain snow and cooler temperatures for the rest of the work week.</p><h1><u>SET-UP</u></h1><p>A digging mid to upper level trough will bring in widespread vertical lift to the western U.S. As the trough helps draw in tropical moisture, it will meet a cool low pressure system at the surface. As a cold front crashes east and south, precipitation chances will spread from border to border, into the Cascades, Rockies, and eventually across the country.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-11 073335-1762871622394.png">Onshore flow will begin Wednesday allowing for a few pre-frontal showers. As the cold front moves inland Wednesday night, storms will become more wide spread, especially through Oregon and northern California. Dropping overnight temperatures will ensure snowfall in the mountainous regions, that will carry into Thursday. As the front pushes south, southern California will see a good chance at rain by Thursday evening. We may even see some snow at the highest elevation peaks in SoCal. As the surface low wraps up within itself, scattered showers and mountain snow will continue across the Pacific northwest Thursday.</p><p>The first wave will move into the Rockies and Four Corners states on Friday, as another trough comes ashore. This will mean another round of precipitation from Northern California to the Canadian border, moving into the northern Rockies for the weekend. </p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Wide west Bams-1762872266764.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1><u>CALIFORNIA IMPACTS</u></h1><p>Winter alerts have already been issued for the Sierra Nevada, beginning Wednesday evening and lasting through the end of the day on Thursday. One to two feet of snow is expected at and above pass level, and 4-12" possible above 5000 feet. </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-11 072919-1762871768828.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-11 073736-1762871871090.png"><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weather.gov/rev">NWS Reno</a> is also highlighting the danger of the winds. Gusts will easily reach 40 mph, but could exceed 100 mph along ridge tops. With snow falling, whiteout conditions will make driving impossible. </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/WeatherStory3-1762872780059.png">Rainfall totals will be heaviest along the northern California coastline where the brunt of the moisture is focused from the atmospheric river. We will have to watch out for totals in southern California to reach 1-2" at lower elevations and 2-4" in the mountains and hills. </p><h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-11 075429-1762872879293.png"><u>NORTHWEST IMPACTS</u></h1><p>Coastal areas will see the highest rain totals, especially in southwest Oregon. </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-11 075821-1762873129219.png">No winter alerts have been issued for the Cascades yet, but they will likely be needed as totals reach the 1-2 foot range. </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-11 080034-1762873243169.png"></p>

Western Waves Bring Soggy, Snowy Pattern

<p>The lake effect snow season has arrived, with heavy snow expected now through Tuesday. Places in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan have already received a foot of snow!<br><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-10 054716-1762778844004.jpg"><br><br><strong>Winter weather alerts</strong> remain in place all across the shores of the Great Lakes through Tuesday. An additional 6-12" in some locations, with heavy snowfall rates likely reducing visibility at times, will make travel very difficult.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-11 073236-1762871565435.jpg"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-11 105614-1762883788305.png"></p><h1>How Lake Effect Works</h1><p>Water has a much higher heat capacity than air, meaning it takes more time to warm up and cool down. This leads to "mild" water temperatures in the Great Lakes while the air overhead can be much cooler. As the cold, dry air moves over these areas, it's able to evaporate moisture from the lakes until it condenses into clouds and precipitation before falling out over land. Typically, we need at least a 13° F difference between the lake water and the air aloft (around 1500 m, or 4500-5000 ft) for lake effect snow to form.</p><h1>Forecast</h1><p>With winds coming over the Great Lakes, we can still anticipate lake effect snowfall to continue. Lake Effect Snow Wraps Up Today

<p>A system has been bringing snow across the Plains and Midwest on Saturday. This same system will continue to push through the Great Lakes into Sunday morning. Midwest Clipper Brings Light Snow, Gusty Winds

<p>Secondary severe weather season is underway across the U.S. - so called because it <em>typically</em> pales in comparison to the primary severe weather season in the spring. However, the fall can provide high-end severe weather threats of its own, including the December 2021 tornado outbreak.<br><br>Thankfully, the severe weather setup for now through Sunday doesn't look to be on the high-end, but a few scattered severe storms will be possible.</p><hr><h1>Severe Storm Outlooks/Hazards</h1><p>Early morning severe storms will be possible along the cold front driving south. Large hail and damaging winds will be possible with any severe storms and the severe risk should diminish by sunrise.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/PIC 2-1762564233131.jpg"></p><p>The threat for isolated severe storms will continue Saturday into Sunday as the cold front is dragged through the south. Severe Storms Possible from Ohio to the Gulf Coast Friday and Saturday

<p>A series of atmospheric rivers has been responsible for wet, windy, and snowy weather in the northwestern U.S over the last few weeks. Our system is currently moving through Washington, Oregon, and the northern tier of California, bringing heavy rainfall and snow. Above is the forecast rainfall totals for the next several days. Gold Beach in Oregon has already picked up 2.51" of rainfall in the past 24 hours.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762440546220.png"></p><p>With multiple inches of rain on the way, the Weather Prediction Center is monitoring coastal areas at a level 1, <strong>MARGINAL</strong>, risk for excessive rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-05 095854-1762361963192.png"></p><p></p><h2>Timing</h2><p>Precipitation across the Northwest should continue for the next few hours. Next Big Push of Moisture in the Northwest

<p><strong>NORTHEAST - </strong>The Storm Prediction Center has maintained an overnight <strong>MARGINAL</strong> (level 1 out of 5) risk for severe weather overnight across portions of the northeastern U.S. for a few gusty storms that could reach severe limits as our cold front exits.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/main threattttt-1762392343860.png"></p><h2>Wind + Fire Danger</h2><p>Widespread wind alerts remain in place through Thursday. Some airports have been experiencing delays because of the strong winds. If you have any travel plans, be sure to check for updates and delays.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-05 173942-1762389589730.png"></p><p>Due to some drier conditions further south and the potential for gusty winds, several red flag warnings have been issued. <p>An upper-level low has been moving across the country, bringing rainy, windy, and cooler weather to many areas. Heavy rain caused flooding issues in the Northeast on Thursday where over 3 inches of rain fell in New York and New Jersey. <p>I will never forget the time it snowed in southwest Missouri on Halloween. Going from house to house for as long as we could stand it before piling back in the car because we were so cold. Trouble, to us, is going to mean rain. Not much worse than spending all of that time and energy into a costume just to get rained on. While you might see some rain icons in the forecast in the northeast, there's a strong possibility we kick the rain out by the afternoon/evening, when it matters, except for portions of northern New York and Vermont. We're concerned with some areas in the Northwest, like Seattle, where the rain might be both consistent and heavy at times. There is also a red flag warning for these regions too. Strong Winds, Temperature Changes, and Severe Storms

<p><strong>LOS ANGELES </strong>- On Tuesday, temperatures in LA rose to record territory with a temperature of 97 degrees, which beats out the old record for October 28th of 94 in 1931. What's causing this heat? The Santa Ana winds have returned. In addition to LA, Oxnard, and Idyllwild also broke record highs on Tuesday afternoon.</p><h2><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-28 201221-1761703950133.png">Santa Ana Winds</h2><p>Whenever we have high-pressure systems out in the West Coast, the possibility of a Santa Ana wind setup becomes likely. The NWS in Los Angeles warns critical fire danger is likely on Wednesday because of low humidity, gusty winds, and high heat.</p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1983224741319065651" src="https://x.com/NWSLosAngeles/status/1983224741319065651"></div><p></p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/2025-10-28 04-47-51-1761648488737.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p><br>During this phenomenon, winds head westward due to the high pressure's clockwise motion. These winds will pass over the dry, desert region of the southwest and head west through the mountain passages in Southern California. During their descent, the air compresses, causing their temperatures to rise.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/2025-10-28 04-53-29-1761648822406.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p></p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Web1-1761648886403.png"></p><p>These winds are expected to bring well above-average temperatures for Southern California. In some spots, we can expect temperatures that are close to 15 degrees above average. This puts several cities in the high 80s in late October!</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/web2-1761745222117.png"></p><p>As a result, the National Weather Service has issued multiple heat advisories and red flag warnings across LA county and the surrounding areas.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-29 150955-1761772240038.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-29 150948-1761772249796.png"></p><p>This heat will also come with the potential to break some additional records.
