Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. <h1>Hurricane Flossie</h1>The National Hurricane Center has found that Flossie has weakened to a Category 1 hurricane with winds of 75mph.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/07/tomer flossie cone-1751511188885.jpg">The Mexican government has discontinued the Tropical Storm Warnings, including Manzanillo, where elevated winds could graze the coastline. Hurricane Flossie Continues to Weaken

Later this week, a frontal boundary is expected to stall. As it lingers, an area of low pressure may form along it. If that development occurs over the Atlantic waters or the eastern Gulf, the National Hurricane Center says there’s a medium chance (40%) for gradual tropical or subtropical development heading into the weekend.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/07/Screenshot 2025-07-02 174426-1751499910600.png">Regardless of development, heavy rainfall is likely across portions of the Southeast. NHC Monitoring Front in the Southeast Ahead of 4th of July

NORTHERN PLAINS - A frontal system is expected to drop in from Canada as we head into the end of the week, triggering a threat for severe thunderstorms in the northern High Plains and Upper Midwest. This is likely to impact your 4th of July festivities with severe hazards in the forecast.<h2>Severe Weather Outlooks</h2>On Thursday, the SPC has issued a SLIGHT (level 2 out of 5) risk for severe thunderstorms in North Dakota as a mid-level ridge drops in. With strong afternoon heating and instability, thunderstorms that develop pose a risk of large hail and damaging winds. A few bowing segments will even be possible across North Dakota overnight.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/07/Screenshot 2025-07-02 173337-1751499721527.png">On Friday, the SPC has issued a MARGINAL (level 1 out of 5) risk as the frontal boundary moves east. Scattered to widespread afternoon thunderstorms are likely along this frontal boundary. This region may honestly need an upgrade in the outlook, but since models are still a bit inconsistent on this outlook, the SPC has remained at a marginal risk.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/07/Screenshot 2025-07-02 173342-1751499726942.png"><h2>Timing</h2>Storms may begin as early as Thursday afternoon as a warm front lifts through the region, with a cold front following Thursday night into Friday. By Friday, storm coverage should be more widespread across the Northern Plains into the Upper Midwest. If you have outdoor 4th of July celebrations planned, this is a forecast worth monitoring closely. NORTHEAST -A shortwave trough will swing through the Great Lakes and into the Northeast on Thursday, bringing the threat of afternoon thunderstorms along an advancing cold front. NORTHWEST - Today, portions of Montana are under heat advisories until this evening for temperatures that could reach the century mark. Please know the signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke if you live in these areas.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1940370908499136862" src="https://x.com/NWSGlasgow/status/1940370908499136862"></div>With hot temperatures in the forecast across these areas, there is also the risk of scattered severe thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a SLIGHT (level 2 out of 5) risk for severe storms across portions of Montana through tonight.
