<h3><strong>Melissa made landfall on Tuesday, October 28th, around 1:00 PM ET near New Hope, Jamaica, as a Category 5 hurricane, the 3rd strongest Hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic Basin, with a central pressure dropping to 892 mb. Maximum sustained winds were estimated at 185 mph.</strong></h3><h3><strong>Hurricane Melissa made its second landfall in eastern Cuba early Wednesday near the city of Chivirico as a Category 3 storm before moving past Bermuda Thursday night.</strong></h3><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1983556935359369717" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1983556935359369717"></div><h3>KEY MESSAGES:</h3><ul><li><p>Catastrophic and life-threatening flash flooding caused major damage in Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba. </p></li><li><p>Wind damage is widespread and catastrophic across western Jamaica.</p></li><li><p>Melissa is transitioning to an extra-tropical cyclone, bringing gusty winds and heavy rain to eastern Canada.</p><p></p></li></ul><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1983196616640299223" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1983196616640299223"></div><p>Melissa is now making its closest approach to Bermuda tonight. The hurricane continues to quickly accelerate off to the northeast as it weakens next week over cooler sea surface temperatures.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-31 053444-1761910738230.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-31 053534-1761910744259.png">Hurricane and Tropical Storm Warnings have been discontinued for now. Some warnings may be issued for portions of Canada, though Melissa will no longer be a tropical system as it moves through the region.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-31 055506-1761911715057.png">While November typically sees much less tropical cyclone activity, we'll still have to watch areas of the Caribbean for potential development in the weeks ahead.</p><p>Tune into WeatherNation for the top weather headlines for more on the tropics.</p>

<p>I will never forget the time it snowed in southwest Missouri on Halloween. Going from house to house for as long as we could stand it before piling back in the car because we were so cold. It doesn't USUALLY snow that early in Springfield, or any other part of the country for that matter this early into Fall.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-27 111421-1761585271271.png">So let's see if Mother Nature is feeling in the mood to traumatize more youth this upcoming weekend.</p><h1>Forecast</h1><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/2025-10-31 06-01-58-1761912346800.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>Low pressure systems will create some heavy rain in the corners of the country with some drizzle in the Midwest. Clear and dry conditions will persist for much of the country with mild temperatures for many. </p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/2025-10-31 06-02-14-1761912160076.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>TROUBLE SPOTS</h1><p>"Trouble" means a lot of different things for people on Halloween. Trouble, to us, is going to mean rain. Not much worse than spending all of that time and energy into a costume just to get rained on. While you might see some rain icons in the forecast in the northeast, there's a strong possibility we kick the rain out by the afternoon/evening, when it matters, except for portions of northern New York and Vermont. We're concerned with some areas in the Northwest, like Seattle, where the rain might be both consistent and heavy at times. Coldest spot will likely be in the Upper Midwest, but any lingering cloud cover should help keep temps from freezing during trick-or-treat hours.</p><h1>PICK OF THE NATION</h1><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-27 111630-1761585733352.png">When. FORECAST: Halloween Night Shaping Up Okay For Many

Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. <p>An upper-level low has been moving across the country, bringing rainy, windy, and cooler weather to many areas. Rain Headed for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast

<p><strong>WEST </strong>- A series of atmospheric rivers has been responsible for wet, windy, and snowy weather in the northwestern U.S. The nest round of rain and snow looks to take shape later this week as our next river pushes in. The good news is that impacts will not be as widespread, and will mostly be localized to the Pacific Northwest, Olympics in particular.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/1-1761878880992.png"></p><p></p><p>Snowfall and rainfall totals will not be as heavy as they were this past weekend and into the early work week, but some areas should look for impacts as you head out on the roads.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/1-1761878923856.png"></p><p></p><p>Here's the "atmospheric river" we are referring to. This constant stream of moisture from the Pacific directed towards the northwest looks to favor weekend rainfall for Washington State and a little bit for Oregon. <p>Monday in Texas brought us record-breaking heat, and Tuesday, more records could fall. </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/web1-1761745423728.png"></p><p><strong>Wind alerts</strong> have been issued through tonight across the central U.S. Gusts up to 50 mph.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-29 150045-1761771671013.png">Here's a look at some of the forecasted wind gusts across the Plains and into the Gulf Coast.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-29 150130-1761771695271.png"></p><p>With strong winds, ongoing drought, and low relative humidity, there is critical fire danger across south Texas.
