Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

Severe storms dominated portions of the southern plains, Midwest, and northeast today, and a severe threat remains in place overnight from Burlington, Vermont, down through San Angelo, Texas.<h1>SOUTHERN END</h1>Strong updrafts provided the support needed in the atmosphere to grow large hailstones. We saw large hail today in Texas. Hailstones reached 5 inches in Guthrie, Texas. To put that into perspective, that is the size of a DVD!! In Girard, Texas hailstones reached 4 inches, the size of a softball. The weather pattern remains favorable for heavy rain in the southern plains through Thursday. The area is still recovering from the heavy rain last weekend, meaning flash flooding could become a big concern, especially after widespread totals of 1-2" with the morning round of storms Tuesday, completely saturating the top layer of soil. Oklahoma City was under a Flash Flood Warning Tuesday AM with reports of creeks overflowing and basements flooding. The National Weather Service has issued a FLOOD WATCH into Thursday morning across portions of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, and Texas.Models have begun to align on the location of where this stationary boundary stalls out mid-week. Fire weather concerns have been all too common in the northeast this month. A strong area of low pressure has emerged from the Rockies, which has prompted a MODERATE (level 4 out of 5) risk overnight. EF-2+ intensity tornadoes and 2-inch diameter hail (or larger) are possible.CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Our field correspondent Erik Fox was in the Sand Hills of Nebraska, where a storm cycled for hours on Sunday night, producing the spotting of a tornado.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1916681281515184498" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1916681281515184498"></div><h1>Overnight - Hazards and Timing</h1>The Storm Prediction Center has issued a MODERATE (level 4 out of 5) risk for severe storms in portions of the Upper Midwest and Upper Mississippi Valley. Dangerous Storms Moving Across the Upper Midwest Overnight

Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. We saw another day of record warmth across the south on Monday. Tallahassee, FL, saw a high of 94°, breaking a record from 1927, and Tuscaloosa, AL, reached a high of 90°, which tied a previous record from 1994. An area of high pressure will continue to dominate, and we will see the potential for more record highs this week.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-28 210616-1745895996894.png">While the recent heatwave is beginning to settle down, we could see a few more records fall during the day Tuesday. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-27 210700-1745809626734.png">Looking over the next few days, many cities across the south will continue to run above average. Tampa, Florida, has an average in the mid-80s for this time of year, and temperatures will reach the lower 90s, bringing the heat! The Little Rock, AR average this time of year is in the mid-70s, but will see highs in the 80s. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-28 211041-1745896249713.png">Even the northeastern U.S. is feeling the beautiful spring temperatures. On average, many northeast cities will be about 10 degrees warmer than normal on Tuesday before our next front moves in on Wednesday and Thursday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-28 211221-1745896346421.png">As we move into the longer-term trends, the Climate Prediction Center offers some reprieve from the hot temperatures in the northeast, settling us back down to likely average temperatures into the first week of May. In the same way, a cold front separates cold air from warm air. Dryline Thunderstorms Continue in West Texas

That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

The Jones Road Fire began in Ocean County, NJ, on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025. It has grown to 15,300 acres and is 65% contained. One arrest has been made in connection with the fire. At least one person was killed in Oklahoma Saturday night as several tornadoes moved across the southern tier of the state. A tornado in Hughes County injured one person and killed another. Photos are from the Hughes County Emergency Manager of a manufactured home that was destroyed. Several tornadoes also occurred in Texas, along with numerous severe thunderstorms.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Spaulding, OK tor damage 2-1745184980260.png">Damage surveys are still incomplete in Oklahoma and Texas as of Sunday afternoon. The National Weather Service Offices in Norman, Dallas, and San Angelo are expected to complete surveys today with final results by Monday or Tuesday. Severe Threat Closes With a Bang Today

Severe storms erupted Thursday evening across the Plains and Midwest, with multiple long track supercells producing tornadoes and massive hail in Nebraska and Iowa. <div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1913208389645291804" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1913208389645291804"></div> Two discrete supercells produced tornadoes north and south of Omaha Thursday evening, with damage tracking across state lines. One that moved from Douglas County, NE to Washington County, IA was rated as an EF-3. Here are the details from <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/wx/afos/p.php?pil=PNSOAX&amp;e=202504182019">NWS Omaha's storm damage survey report</a>:<blockquote><pre><code>At approximately 6:55 PM CDT on Thursday, April 17, a tornado developed near Highway 133, and appeared to produce first damage by snapping limbs in an area of trees. The tornado moved to the east, impacting trees, homes, and destroying a garage near 108th Street. It damaged trees along Little Papillion Creek and then impacted a home and large garage near 84th Street, south of Dutch Hall Road. This was the point along the tornado track where the most intense damage was observed, as a well-built all-brick home was destroyed with only some walls still standing. Tree damage near the site, as well as the destruction of a large, well-built garage, supported the estimate of high-end EF-2 to low-end EF-3 damage at this location. The tornado proceeded to destroy another large shed, and remove the roof from a brick home a half mile to the east. It then destroyed a very large garage-type building in-between two homes at 78th Street south of Dutch Hall Road. The tornado passed directly between the homes, causing extensive tree damage, lifting and moving a full-size pickup truck approximately 30 yards, and throwing large trees nearly a quarter of a mile downstream. The tornado weakened slightly but damaged several outbuildings and trees near 72nd Street. At that point, it began to move more northeasterly, snapping several trees and flipping recreational vehicles at Nashville, NE. It directly impacted another home, destroying two outbuildings and causing tree damage near Country Road P38. The tornado impacted one more home and destroyed another outbuilding near Country Road P51 before dissipating in an open field at approximately 7:15 PM CDT. The tornado is rated an EF-3 with estimated maximum wind speeds based on damage of 140 mph, 0 fatalities and 0 injuries. The maximum track width was approximately 170 yards and the track length approximately 8.3 miles.</code></pre></blockquote><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-18 054213-1744976566300.png">Thankfully, no injuries or deaths have been reported from these storms, though multiple buildings were damaged. Dry Southwest Keeps Critical Fire Conditions in the Forecast

​A classic late-season April snowstorm is impacting the Rocky Mountains, bringing heavy snowfall to Utah, Colorado, and Arizona. Winter weather alerts remain in place, with some areas expecting over a foot of snow accumulation. Not only is the storm expected to bring heavy snowfall, but high winds will be possible, prompting Red Flag Warnings across much of New Mexico, as an area of low pressure swiftly dives down to the south.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/1-1745029482187.png"><h1>Timing</h1>By later this evening, snow will overspread much of northern New Mexico. By Saturday afternoon, this system will move into the plains, stirring up the severe weather threat, along with lingering snow across the High Plains.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/New Baron Video 3-1745029578999.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>Snowfall</h1>Through Saturday, the heaviest of the additional snow accumulation will fall across higher elevations, including the San Juans and the Front Range.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/1-1745029619113.png">Temperatures have dropped rapidly across the Southwest as the system has dropped in. Two upper level lows have brought a shot of cold air across the Northeast. Temperatures Wednesday AM were chilling for Illinois and Indiana. These chilly temperatures are going to continue to spread east. The mid-Atlantic will wake up to temperatures around 32° and or frost developing outside. This can be harmful to plants that have been planted especially since it has been a few weeks with warmer overnight temperatures. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Web 19-1744803212343.png">There are a few winter weather advisories that continue into Wednesday for a quick inch or two of snow and wind gusts upwards of 35 mph.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Winter Temps-1744803224940.png">The Northeast will spend the rest of the week digging out of this cool pocket and warming back up to seasonable levels and beyond. Cold Push for the Northeast

Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!
