Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. Flooding has been rampant over the Texas Panhandle and western Oklahoma, along with northwest Louisiana, over the last few days. Moisture in our upper atmosphere has collided with the dryline, <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/Severe%20Weather%20Continues%20Across%20the%20Great%20Plains">producing widespread showers and storms</a>, just about every single day. 7-day rain totals show more than 6-8" has fallen in eastern New Mexico, the Texas Panhandle, and western Oklahoma.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/06-04_rsc_rainfall totals-1685908390498.jpg">Saturday afternoon, flash flooding developed quickly in Shreveport, Louisiana after 3" of rain fell over the city in a matter of hours. Amarillo, Texas has seen the sixth wettest May ever! Rainfall totals were over triple compared to an average May, with 7.36" of rain recorded this May.<h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/06-04_rsc 230 daty new-1685904259572.jpg">Outlooks</h1>The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) has highlighted the risk of excessive rainfall for the next few days. The darker green colors indicate elevated chances for flooding, due to saturated soils and training areas of heavy rain. With how wet May was through this part of the region, the saturated soils mean the ground will have a harder time absorbing any additional rainfall which increases the chance for runoff.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/06-04_Rsc_excessive rain today-1685904288814.jpg">We will see daily showers and thunderstorms producing the severe weather threat but also the risk of 1-4" of rainfall over the Texas Panhandle. Please do not drive through flooded roadways and use caution if you live near low-lying areas. The severe weather threat is isolated for Sunday for far southern Texas. Though, it does include the entire San Antonio metro area. A persistent pattern is keeping the radar active in the Northern Rockies. A strong ridge of high pressure parked over the Upper Midwest and an area of low pressure near the Pacific Northwest are working together to produce a strong southerly flow, bringing moisture from the Gulf of Mexico as far north as the Canadian Border.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/wet-1685911418783.jpg">Showers and storms become widespread each afternoon with heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds. Flood Threat Continues for the Northern Rockies

Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

Smoke from wildfires in Canada continues to push into the Northern U.S. This time, creating unhealthy air quality for the Great Lakes.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/06-04_rnc_aqi-1685907994072.jpg">Air Quality alerts are in place for many in the Midwest including Cincinnati and St. Louis, but for those in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Chicago IL, this is due to the fires from our north sending smoke south. Expect air quality to range from unhealthy for sensitive groups to unhealthy through tonight for particulate matter. Those sensitive to lower air quality should avoid prolonged outdoor activity.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/06-04_rnc_aqi alerts-1685908000864.jpg">A fire in Michigan is also producing smoke that could lower air quality nearby. The Wilderness Trail fire has burned 2,400 acres according to the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/MIDNR/bulletins/35e212f">Michigan Department of Natural Resources</a>. Daytime heating and strong instability will bring an increasing chance for showers and storms today and tonight from the Tennessee Valley through the Southern Appalachians. Here is a look at the very latest forecast.<h1>Severe Outlook: Sunday</h1>A MARGINAL (level one out of five) threat for severe storms is possible across portions of Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia, and West Virginia. Even in areas outside the Marginal risk, there will be enough energy for scattered storms with heavy rain and 30-40 mph winds. A backdoor cold front has brought major changes to temperatures in the Northeast. Strong storms, gusty winds and hail were all reported as a frontal boundary moved from northeast to southwest. We now have a coastal low that will continue to bring unseasonably cool air and periods of rain to the region through Sunday (ABOVE).High temperatures Sunday will fall about 20 degrees below average for some locations through MA and ME.<h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/Screenshot 2023-06-04 111040-1685898644892.png"></h1>Due to the area of low pressure off of New England's coast, cooler air will be funneled in with winds out of the north. It will be cloudy, breezy and chilly across New England due to the influence of the low. Coastal New England will also get on and off showers, while most highs on Sunday won't make it out of the 50s. Her broadcast career began in Elvis’ birthplace, Tupelo, Mississippi, where she earned her Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal from the American Meteorological Society. Kara's career has included coverage of all types of severe weather including tornado events, flooding and tropical systems across multiple southern states. The first named storm of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season was a tropical storm for less than 24 hours. Arlene has now weakened to a post-tropical cyclone. This system will continue to move south and no further advisories will be issued from the National Hurricane Center.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/POST TROPICAL ARELEN-1685825219078.jpg">There are currently no other areas of interest for potential tropical activity in the Atlantic basin at this time, either.Southern Florida can continue to see heavy rain Sunday as lingering moisture from what's left of Arlene moves over the Keys and south Florida and interacts with the sea breeze. Scattered showers and storms, some with torrential downpours, are likely again Sunday afternoon. However into Monday as the system moves into the Atlantic, dry air on the west side of the low will wrap in and give a brief dry day with minimal storms.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/6-3 FL moisture-1685848025302.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Generally, Florida's soils can handle this amount of moisture, but isolated flooding is possible especially in southeast Florida. Heaviest totals could be 2-4" by the end of the weekend.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/6-3 RSE FL accum-1685848150252.png">As a result, the Weather Prediction Center (WPC) has highlighted the risk for excessive rainfall in Florida and a flood watch is in effect through Sunday for southern Florida for 1-3" of rain, with 4"+ possible in localized areas.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/13-1685827718935.jpg">Due to wind from a combination of differing pressure systems, waves will be higher and surf will be rough along Florida's east coast and southeast Georgia Sunday. Be careful if you plan on going to the beaches, or wait until later when the rip current threat lessens. Arlene Weakens to a Post-Tropical Cyclone

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

<h1>Another Record</h1>With gulf moisture continuing to stream into the Northern Rockies and Northern High Plains, we have seen another day of heavy rain and another record set Friday. Billings, Montana set a daily rainfall record with 1.20" received! An active pattern will continue into the weekend. A trough of low pressure, plenty of moisture and daytime heating will combine to see the continued chance of daily thunderstorms.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/montana rainfall -1685751787431.jpg">The Weather Prediction Center highlighted north central Montana with a moderate risk of excessive rainfall overnight. This is as rain and storms continue to roll over the same already saturated soils. Here, in the darkest green color, flash flooding is possible with impacts including ponding on the roads and water covering the roads. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/this evening-1685751800235.jpg">Saturday, the already saturated soils will see more rain, with scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms throughout the afternoon and evening. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/saturday -1685752253572.jpg">With the excessive rainfall threat in place, more flooding will be probable through late Saturday night. Slow moving thunderstorms, snow melt and runoff can result in flooding of streams, creeks and low-lying areas.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/flood alerts-1685751813479.jpg">Expect showers and a few thunderstorms overnight, and increasing storms Saturday afternoon.
