Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

We're well on our way to winter, but high temperatures will be soaring across the Western and Central United States to start the month of November. Upper-level ridging is shifting east into the southern Plains as we get into the midst of the work week.Numerous high temperature records fell on Sunday across portions of Nebraska and Colorado. WEST - A series of atmospheric rivers have been responsible for wet, windy, and snowy weather in the northwestern U.S over the last few weeks. The next round of rain and snow is taking shape as our next river pushes in. Some areas that received the most recent rainfall picked up a few inches heading into this past weekend.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762163971054.png">Our next system is gathering moisture and will work onshore this week, bringing back more chances for rain and snow. Here's how much we might be in for over the next few days (below). Wednesday looks to be the day with the most widespread rain, which could lead to a renewed round of flooding. Parts of the northern Cascades could receive a foot or more of snow on the highest peaks.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-03 135924-1762203584138.png">With multiple inches of rain on the way, the Weather Prediction Center is already monitoring coastal areas. Starting on Tuesday, the threat of flash flooding will return. How to Help Those Impacted by Hurricane Melissa

Coastal areas will be dealing with intrusions of ocean water, known as coastal flooding, during the week ahead with the return of king tides!<h2>What is a "king tide?"</h2>When the gravitational pull of the sun and moon are both higher than normal, high and low tides become more pronounced, leading to flooding during high tide and potentially low water issues during the low tides.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-02 051621-1762088418982.png">This happens most often from the fall through the spring as the sun's gravitational pull on the earth is the strongest. Despite winter conditions in North America, the sun is actually closest to the earth in early January.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-02 051520-1762088418986.png"> King tides are most pronounced when the moon is at its closest point to the Earth in its orbit, which is known as perigee. This is happening at the same time as the full moon for both November and December, creating what's known as a supermoon. During these supermoon events, the moon will be about 14,000 miles closer to the Earth than normal!<h2><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-02 060337-1762088634156.png">November King Tides</h2>King tides will be ramping up throughout the week ahead. Note how much the tidal range grows in Charleston from now through Wednesday, increasing from about 6 feet to over 7 feet by Wednesday!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762165790353.png">Tides near Miami (Virginia Key below) will also increase this week, increasing from about 2 feet to 3 feet!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762165816978.png">Coastal flood alerts will likely be issued as we get closer to the mid-week time-frame, so be sure to check your high tide times locally and avoid areas near the coast during those times. <h1>Early Work Week</h1><hr>We're in for several rounds of moisture in the north east throughout this work week. We'll start off with this clipper system bringing forth some relative moisture to the region. This forecast moisture model shows a small plume moving into the region by mid-week.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/2025-11-03 04-43-15-1762170213274.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>However, the amount of rainfall that this system is expected to yield, is not terribly impressive.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762170338103.png">Going towards the end of the work week, temperatures will start to fall slightly. Some spots like Burlington, VT, for example, drop down into the high 40s for the daytime highs on Wednesday!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762170747448.png"><h1>Late Work Week</h1><hr>Going into the weekend, we have another, stronger system making it's way through the north east. This will funnel a much larger plume of moisture into the region.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/2025-11-03 05-07-57-1762171692226.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Some of the ingredients in the atmosphere will likely favor a far more active pattern than what we can expect earlier on this week. Some key factors are some warmer temps from the southeast, another is some slight wind shear. Just enough turn to yield some more rainfall.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762171975570.png">To time some of this rain out, we can expect the heaviest precipitation to occur around the overnight hours of Thursday, and then throughout the day on Friday. Some of the heaviest downpours can occur closer to the Great Lakes. We even have some snow in the forecast for some of our friends in New England!<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/2025-11-03 05-10-54-1762171962957.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Accumulation wise, we can expect pretty heavy downpours almost region-wide. An upper-level low has been moving across the country, bringing rainy, windy, and cooler weather to many areas. Heavy rain caused flooding issues in the Northeast on Thursday where over 3 inches of rain fell in New York and New Jersey. A multi-vehicle crash shut down a portion of the New York State Thruway in Buffalo amid blizzard conditions on Tuesday, January 2. At least two people were injured, <a href="http://buffalonews.com/2018/01/02/eastbound-lanes-of-i-90-near-depew-closed-due-to-crash/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a news report said</a>.
