Karissa is the Director of On-Air Operations at WeatherNation. Karissa grew up loving math and science, but really fell in love with Meteorology while attending the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. After two summers of storm chasing in the central plains, she knew that it was the career path for her. Standing in front of a thunderstorm and feeling the cool outflow knock her over was an experience she will never forget. After two years at COD, she transferred to Metropolitan State University of Denver. Karissa graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology. Her high school and college speech and meteorology professors were extremely supportive and pushed her to succeed. Before joining the WeatherNation team, she previously worked as the Morning Meteorologist at KCAU-TV in Sioux City, Iowa and at WMBD-TV in Peoria, IL. She recently was part of a National Edward R. Murrow award winning team for breaking news for their coverage of the EF-4 tornado in Washington, Illinois. In her free time, Karissa enjoys cooking and trying new foods. She is a self proclaimed 'TV Junkie' who can get into just about any show. She is a die hard Chicago sports fan who loves attending professional sporting events.

NORTHERN PLAINS - As we head into the end of the week, an upper-level trough north of the border will usher cooler air into the U.S. With a couple of fronts passing through, temperatures may drop low enough to support some snow. So it’s time to brush up on our winter knowledge, early snowstorms are here!After a quick clipper system moved through the Great Lakes Friday, a second front will dive from the northern plains to the northeast this weekend. Early Saturday will see a mix of rain and snow with chilly morning lows. Once the sun comes up, most of the precipitation will fall as rain through the afternoon. Chicago, Milwaukee and Detroit should be on the lookout for a few flurries mixing in once the sun goes down. While the predominant precip type should be rain, overnight lows near freezing into Sunday morning could allow for some accumulation in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/baaaams-1762546447438.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h2>Snow Models</h2>Snowfall totals should be mostly less than an inch, especially considering still warm ground temperatures. A few spots in northwest Iowa and near northwest Ohio (where heaviest precip potential matches up with the coldest time of day) could see a soggy inch or two.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot20251107131104png-1762546268237.png">Afternoon highs will struggle to warm out of the 30s for most areas impacted by the precip. Keep in mind, another feature of quick systems like these is gusty winds. Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

Secondary severe weather season is underway across the U.S. - so called because it typically pales in comparison to the primary severe weather season in the spring. However, the fall can provide high-end severe weather threats of its own, including the December 2021 tornado outbreak. Thankfully, the severe weather setup for this Friday through Sunday doesn't look to be on the high-end, but a few scattered severe storms will be possible.<hr><h1>SETUP</h1>Gulf moisture will be surging north in warm air to meet the cold front, where wind shear will be elevated to help organize updrafts. Areas across the Midsouth (KY/TN) will have the best combination of ingredients to see scattered severe storms.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-06 071304-1762438400038.png">Gulf moisture will be surging north in warm air to meet the cold front - where wind shear will be elevated to help organize updrafts. Areas across the Midsouth (KY/TN) will have the best combination of ingredients to see scattered severe storms.<h1>Severe Storm Outlooks/Hazards</h1>The risk for Friday covers a large area from Ohio to the Gulf Coast (top of page), including a level 2 risk in the Mid-South. The elevated risk is for scattered hailstorms, so be sure to prepare ahead of time by protecting property that could be damaged (vehicles/patio furniture/etc). As the winds will be turning with height, an isolated tornado risk is also in place from Kentucky through Florida. You can see cities like Nashville have a higher chance today for tornadic activity.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/pic6-1762543867093.png">The threat for isolated severe storms will continue Saturday into Sunday as the cold front is dragged through the south. As daytime heating recharges the atmosphere on Saturday, a few more severe storms may trigger in the afternoon along the warm front. Record heat has been the story for the Lone Star State this week, with multiple records falling on Wednesday and Thursday. Additional record high temperatures are expected Friday and Saturday before the coldest air of the season (so far) arrives this weekend! <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/1-1762486069442.png">A strong upper-level low will help to drive multiple cold fronts across the country this weekend into early next week. This will send sub-arctic air rushing south from Canada toward the Gulf.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-07 065447-1762523813611.png">Monday and Tuesday's lows will plummet into the 20s, 30s, and 40s all the way to the Gulf &amp; Florida! A series of atmospheric rivers has been responsible for wet, windy, and snowy weather in the northwestern U.S over the last few weeks. Our system is currently moving through Washington, Oregon, and the northern tier of California, bringing heavy rainfall and snow. Above is the forecast rainfall totals for the next several days. Gold Beach in Oregon has already picked up 2.51" of rainfall in the past 24 hours.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762440546220.png">With multiple inches of rain on the way, the Weather Prediction Center is monitoring coastal areas at a level 1, MARGINAL, risk for excessive rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-05 095854-1762361963192.png"><h2>Timing</h2>Precipitation across the Northwest should continue for the next few hours. Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. NORTHEAST - The Storm Prediction Center has maintained an overnight MARGINAL (level 1 out of 5) risk for severe weather overnight across portions of the northeastern U.S. for a few gusty storms that could reach severe limits as our cold front exits.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/main threattttt-1762392343860.png"><h2>Wind + Fire Danger</h2>Widespread wind alerts remain in place through Thursday. Some airports have been experiencing delays because of the strong winds. If you have any travel plans, be sure to check for updates and delays.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-05 173942-1762389589730.png">Due to some drier conditions further south and the potential for gusty winds, several red flag warnings have been issued. An upper-level low has been moving across the country, bringing rainy, windy, and cooler weather to many areas. Heavy rain caused flooding issues in the Northeast on Thursday where over 3 inches of rain fell in New York and New Jersey. Gusty Winds & Rain Linger in the Northeast on Friday

Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!
