A brush fire has destroyed an apartment building in the Austin city suburb of Cedar Park, TX on August 8th.
The Palmer Lane fire is now 60% contained after burning 50 acres and damaging buildings in the Bexley Apartment Complex. The apartment building is home to about 300 units that were evacuated at the time of the fire. One of the buildings is a total loss while three others are heavily damaged. The cause of the fire is unknown, but there was no lightning in the area on Tuesday afternoon, so the fire was caused by human activity.
Drone footage on Wednesday morning shows the damage from the fire and how it scorched areas around the apartment buildings and homes. Even though numerous apartment buildings were damaged, thankfully firefighters we able to protect nearby homes from burning.
A red flag warning remains in effect for the area through Thursday as dry, gusty winds are expected. Texas has been dealing with a months-long heat wave, that has allowed grasses, trees, and shrubs to dry out and are therefore more susceptible to burn. Numerous other fires are burning in Lone Star State due to the hot and dry conditions.
