Cold Temperatures Ahead for the South

A wave of cold temperatures are ahead for the South behind a storm system producing wintry weather in the Lower Mississippi Valley. High temperatures will only be in the 40s from the Southern Plains to the Gulf of Mexico coastline. The mercury will be 10 to 20 degrees below average over most of the region. Tuesday will remain below normal. Morning lows will be in the 20s and 30s with widespread frost and freezing temperatures. Highs will recover into the 50s for the afternoon. Temperatures will continue to recover throughout the rest of this week, with readings climbing to average or above for the middle to late part of the week. Highs will climb into the 60s and lows in the 40s.
