Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

As <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/another-blast-of-cold-air-on-the-way">bitterly cold air moves into the Northern Plains</a>, a frigid temperature gradient will set up across the Midwest, setting up the stage for additional snow across the Plains and Midwest. A low diving out of the Rockies will tap into limited moisture to create a round of moderate snowfall from the Dakotas through Michigan this weekend.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-06 045443-1765022100274.png">A surface low will continue to deepen along this gradient through Saturday as it pushes across the Plains and into the Midwest through Sunday. By Sunday morning, residents of Chicago are likely going to wake up to falling snow. Models are also showing the possible snow across much of Wisconsin, Michigan, northern Illinois, and northern Indiana.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/New Baron Video 3-1765077462211.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>By later in the day on Sunday, most of the snow will be heading towards the Northeast, leaving cold air and lake-effect snow in its wake.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/1-1765077502937.png">While this system moves across cities that were impacted by heavy snow last weekend, this upcoming system won't be quite as powerful. However, we can expect a wide swath of snow from eastern Montana through Ohio of 1-3". Higher totals may be noted from Sioux Falls, across Iowa, and into the Chicago metro.

Quick Moving System To Bring More Snow to the Midwest

A series of storms is taking aim at the Northwestern United States, with weaker storms over the weekend turning much more intense by late Sunday night. Monday through Wednesday will see a series of strong atmospheric rivers bring very heavy rainfall, warmer temperatures, and high elevation snow that will be measured in feet. Flood potential is increasing, especially for river flooding as the week rolls on.<h1>Weekend System</h1>Two troughs will continue to push into the Northwest this weekend, producing rounds of rain and snow. As snow falls in the Rockies today, another wave of low pressure will move onshore near Oregon late Saturday into Sunday, with that precipitation spreading east through Sunday afternoon.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/New Baron Video 3-1765077267074.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Rain fall totals through the end of the weekend could top 2-3 inches in the Cascades and coastal areas, with snow topping a foot in the Washington Cascades and into Idaho/Western Montana.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/New Baron Video 3-1765077306388.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>Atmospheric River Mon - Wed</h1>A deep supply of tropical moisture arrives into Monday from the "pineapple express," or atmospheric river. Intense rainfall, gusty winds, and heavy mountain snow are expected. The ridge of high pressure helping to steer the tropical moisture northward will also lead to above average temperatures, bringing snow levels up in elevation for Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-06 055639-1765026414726.png">With this event being so warm, significant will be likely for the higher terrain of the Cascades, in addition to lower elevations! A Flood Watch has been issued for Washington until next Friday. This will be a big story heading through the week. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-06 055703-1765028257965.png">Rainfall totals through Wednesday are expected to top 7-12 inches for large areas along and west of the Cascades. With heavy rainfall rates, we could see flash flooding develop in addition to river flooding.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-06 055658-1765028266106.png">As all of the moisture adds up and runs off into creeks, streams, and rivers, water levels will rise dramatically through the middle of the week. Many rivers are expected to reach moderate to major flood stages, including the Snoqualmie and Snohomish.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-06 055823-1765028866445.png">Moisture will great increase through sunrise Monday, with intense rainfall rates. As this moisture moves east and hits colder air in the Rockies more of the rain will turn to heavy snow. Temperatures will continue to climb, leading to higher and higher snowfall levels. A break arrives toward Wednesday evening and Thursday. Another weaker system is expected Friday.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/2025-12-06 05-58-52-1765028876391.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Snow will be very heavy east of the Cascades, especially above 6,000 feet. Snow levels will go up and down quite a bit through the event, so driving over mountain passes in the afternoons may yield only rain at times, while at other times intense snow is expected. Stormy Weekend in the Northwest, Intense System Arrives Monday

Meteorologist Jesse Kelley is excited to join the talented staff at Weather Nation. Jesse spent most of his childhood in Birmingham, Alabama. The state of Alabama is prone to seeing various types of weather from severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and winter weather. For college, Jesse attended the University of South Alabama where he received his degree in Broadcast Meteorology along with minors in Math and Geography. From Alabama, Jesse started his broadcast television working three years at KAVU-TV in Victoria. Recently, he finished a stint in Shreveport, LA. The Northern Tier of the country is no stranger to cold, and with that said, another shot of arctic air is here for the next few days. High and low temperatures will be well below average. Friday morning, more record lows fell across parts of the Great Lakes and the Northeast.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/1-1764990907597.png">Another round of much colder air is set to arrive this weekend into the first part of next week for the northern tier of the United States.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/1-1765077653929.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/1-1765077627596.png">Along with the continued pushes of colder air, the strong northerly winds will create wind chill factors well below zero!<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/2025-12-06 08-17-41-1765034301063.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>When it gets this dangerously cold, even if it only lasts a day or two, bring the pets inside and remember to check on neighbors who might be susceptible to this. DENVER, CO - Denver saw its first significant snow this season earlier this week, with 6.5 inches reported downtown! The highest totals were reported in the higher elevations, with 11 inches recorded in Genesee.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-04 095720-1764867453909.png"><h1>Forecast Snow</h1>Further snow is in store for the Rocky Mountains as a frontal system dives in. Precipitation began in northern Utah Friday evening and will spread across Colorado overnight and into Saturday morning. Another round of snow is likely for the weekend with higher moisture content coming from the Northwest.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-05 202547-1764991557250.png"><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/rockieswnoww-1764991689293.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>With today's round and our late-week round, snowfall totals may reach upwards of a foot plus in the higher elevations.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-05 202838-1764991729249.png">This snowfall is more than welcome for some of the ski resorts in the Rockies. Overnight Snow for the Colorado Rockies

Multiple low-pressure systems moving across the country will bring heavy rain to the Gulf Coast through the end of the week, but on the northern periphery of these lows, cold air will linger, turning rain into snow and ice! The snow started falling Thursday morning in Texas and Oklahoma before moving east Thursday afternoon. <div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1996640648766628256" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1996640648766628256"></div> Winter weather advisories are in effect through Friday afternoon from North Carolina through eastern Maryland for light/moderate snow and some light icing. Expect roads to be slick with temperatures in the 20s.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/pic6-1764963628163.png">Virginia into North Carolina and some areas around the Chesapeake Bay will see a round of mostly snow on Friday morning, with moderate ice accretions possible along the Blue Ridge Escarpment in Western North Carolina. Some snow may linger along the Mid-Atlantic coast into New Jersey and Delaware into the afternoon and early evening.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/FORECAST-1764971120854.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Snow accumulations look mostly minor, generally 1-3 inches, but higher elevations in the Blue Ridge Mountains could see some 3-6 inch totals. Snow & Ice Lingers for the Mid-Atlantic & Appalachians

Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

MONTANA - A clipper system has been moving through the Rockies and High Plains and brought upwards of 4-7" of snowfall across portions of Montana. More snow is in store across the Northern Plains to Midwest to Northeast as the clippers move through.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/New Baron Video 3-1764813457932.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>These totals will pile up across the northern plains, with the highest totals staying out west across the Northern Rockies.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-03 162020-1764804026521.png">Gusty winds will also play a role in the forecast. We can expect rounds of 25-30mph wind gusts. In some cases, maybe even higher than that! Watch out for those wind chill temperatures as they will drop as the winds come through with each clipper system.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/12-03 rnc bams3k wind-1764786148016.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Clipper systems are notorious for bringing quick-accumulating snowfall. But, even if snow totals are not significant, it doesn't mean dangerous road conditions won't be present. The Iowa Department of Transportation reports over 70% of weather-related crashes happen when there is 2" or LESS of snowfall. Northern U.S. Bracing for Multiple Clipper Systems this Week

Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. We're hoping many Thanksgiving travelers have made it home, because this next system has brought rain, ice, and snowfall from the Mid-South to the Northeast. The combination of an upper-level low drawing in cold air and a surface low pulling in warm Gulf moisture will set some of us up for ice, others for rain, and many for heavy snowfall. So gear up for what you can expect in your neighborhood. Kansas and Nebraska already saw 2-4" of snowfall on Monday morning.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1995549367382753424" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1995549367382753424"></div><h2>Overall Set-Up</h2>Several components come into play when we talk about different types of wintry precipitation, and the temperature profile of the atmosphere is one of the most important. In this forecast, a strong upper-level low will draw in cold air aloft. At the surface, a low will pull in warm Gulf moisture. What happens between these layers determines whether precipitation falls as rain, freezing rain, sleet, a rain/snow mix, or snow.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-01 041042-1764587449453.png">Winter alerts are starting to trim back as the low pressure system pushes farther north and east, but many remain in effect through tonight.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-02 135101-1764708672189.png"><h2>Forecast Timing</h2>Based on current timing, snow will reach the Northeast through Tuesday night before the system exits offshore early Wednesday morning.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/2025-12-02 11-14-48-1764692115278.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Snowfall totals will vary depending on how cold the temperatures get throughout the event. The heaviest totals are expected to climb over 6 inches in the Northeast. Our forecast models are topping out closer to a foot for northern New England.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-02 135106-1764708709573.png">Ice accumulations generally range from a light glaze up to 0.1". When forecasts show totals approaching 0.25" or more, power outages become possible, and travel can become nearly impossible.

Gulf Low turns Coastal Low as Millions Brace for Plowable Snow

A wave of cold temperatures are ahead for the South behind a storm system producing <a href="https://bit.ly/3brrR8L" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">wintry weather in the Lower Mississippi Valley</a>. High temperatures will only be in the 40s from the Southern Plains to the Gulf of Mexico coastline. The mercury will be 10 to 20 degrees below average over most of the region.
