Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

<p><strong>TEXAS - </strong>The state of Texas is in for a rinse and repeat forecast for the next couple of days, with most of our severe weather threat happening later in the day and continuing overnight.</p><p>There is a <strong>Marginal </strong>to <strong>Slight</strong> risk of severe storms in Texas and a small portion of New Mexico overnight. The threat of significant hailstones and isolated tornadoes will be a couple of the main threats to watch out for.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/overngiighghggh-1749606106589.png">We have been seeing strong and severe storms the last few days over Texas. These storm chances will continue the next few days as a frontal boundary lingers.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/fjfjfjfjfff-1749602811672.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>The risk for severe storms will continue on Wednesday and Thursday.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-10 153939-1749591588207.png">For now, both days are under a <strong>Marginal</strong> threat for strong to severe storms.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-10 153942-1749591591919.png">Flooding will be another threat to keep a close eye on in the next few days. A bullseye of 1-3 inches of rain is likely across Central Texas. With isolated higher totals. Watch out for any flash flooding, especially with some of the stronger storms that can bring heavier downpours in a shorter timeframe.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/1-3 -1749606194609.png"></p>

Texas Can't Seem to Shake the Severe Threat

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

<p>Heavy rain has been no stranger in the south. With ample moisture and a frontal boundary, heavy rain and strong storms have been persistent these last few days. As we look into the overnight hours, a few strong storms will be possible, but most should remain dry. Isolated Severe Threat for the Gulf Overnight

<p>An upper level ridge of high pressure has been responsible for record-breaking highs across the northwest over the recent days. Many records were set on Monday, and again on Tuesday! Hermiston, OR, saw a record high temp of 101°, which ties the previous record of 101°. Ellensburg, WA, saw a record high of 97°, which beats out the record of 95°.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/NWRECDpng-1749605369474.png"></p><h3><strong>SEVERE THREAT</strong></h3><p>All of this warm air will result in a ripe environment for storms. Overnight, we see a highlighted area for strong to severe storms including Burns, Oregon, and clipping Boise, Idaho. On Wednesday, the area expands in coverage and sneaks into Utah and Wyoming.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/overnigff-1749605419002.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/wedaaa-1749605406347.png"></p><h3><strong>FORECAST TIMING</strong></h3><p>Overnight, a few storms will develop with the potential to be strong to severe. <h2>Eastern Pacific Ocean</h2><p><strong>Barbara</strong> became a hurricane on Monday during the day, but has since been downgraded back to tropical storm status and is expected to continue weakening before becoming a remnant low by Wednesday.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-10 153417-1749591262450.png">On the other hand, Cosme remains a tropical storm but is flirting with hurricane strength as of midday Tuesday.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-10 153438-1749591283063.png"></p><p>Here's a look at the latest NHC cone of uncertainty. This doesn't indicate a system is expected, so be sure to stay up to date with the 7-Day forecast from the National Hurricane Center.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-10 153524-1749591328979.png"><br>Better chances for formation around mid-June are expected in the Eastern Pacific, which <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/an-area-to-watch-in-the-pacific-already"><u>already has one name crossed off the list</u></a>.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/Screenshot 2025-05-29 104826-1748537463299.png">A system in the Gulf or western Atlantic is not unusual in June, which typically has warmer water early in the season compared to the <em>main development region</em> (MDR) in the Atlantic (between the Caribbean and west Africa).</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/Screenshot 2025-05-29 104849-1748537876634.png">The early season will more often see more tropical storms than hurricanes, but hurricanes can form and impact the United States, so it's <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/hurricane-prep-week-2025"><u>always best to be prepared</u></a>. <p>We saw an active day yesterday across the southeast with severe storms bringing damaging winds and hail. Some portions across the southeast also experienced significant rainfall. Century, Florida saw 3.67" of rain in the last 24 hours. We have another round of strong storms today, as a boundary lingers.</p><h1>TODAY</h1><p>More severe weather is possible with clusters of storms moving from the Southern Plains back into the Deep South. The primary threats will be damaging winds and hail.</p><h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/severe todayyyaaa-1749574967584.png">TIMING</h1><p>Some storms have developed, and throughout the day, we can see more activity. As the cold front moves offshore, we can see storm chances decrease for areas like the Carolinas.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/jfjfjfjfjfjfjfjfrrrrr-1749575086829.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>Rainfall</h1><p>Heavy rainfall remains a critical concern, with hourly rates surpassing one inch in many areas. <p><strong>CANADA - </strong>Massive wildfires continue to burn in the Canadian Prairies, which have lead to evacuations and millions of acres of land, property, and forest burned. These fires are primarily burning in the provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan, as well as in Alberta, and a <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://cwfis.cfs.nrcan.gc.ca/report">state of emergency</a> has been declared. According to the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://ciffc.net/"><strong><em>Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre</em></strong></a>, CIFFC, 224 fires are active in Canada.</p><h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-10 070901-1749560950121.png">Smoke Overhead</h1><p>The smoke from these fires has blanketed the United States, prompting air quality alerts across the Upper Midwest and Northeast. The forecast below shows where smoke will be visible overhead and doesn't necessarily indicate where air quality will be impacted.<br>A trough moving through Canada will help to re-establish northerly flow, allowing thick smoke to return to the Midwest and Northeast on Monday.</p><h1></h1><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/2025-06-10 07-09-52-1749561037774.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>Near Surface Smoke / Air Quality Impacts</h1><p>This model displays where smoke will be most dense near the ground, highlighting areas where air quality impacts are more likely.
