<h3>Melissa made landfall on Tuesday, October 28th, around 1:00 PM ET near New Hope, Jamaica, as a Category 5 hurricane, the 3rd strongest Hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic Basin, with a central pressure dropping to 892 mb. Maximum sustained winds were estimated at 185 mph.</h3><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1984077869409325158" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1984077869409325158"></div><h3>Hurricane Melissa made its second landfall in eastern Cuba early Wednesday near the city of Chivirico as a Category 3 storm before moving past Bermuda Thursday night.</h3><ul><li>Catastrophic and life-threatening flash flooding caused major damage in Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba.</li><li>Wind damage is widespread and catastrophic across western Jamaica.</li><li>Melissa is now a post-tropical cyclone, bringing gusty winds and heavy rain to eastern Canada.</li></ul><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1983196616640299223" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1983196616640299223"></div>Melissa is now a post-tropical low, meaning it now longer gets its energy from tropical processes. It has past Bermuda and continues to weaken, but it still has category 1 strength winds. This will mean gusty conditions and rain for the Maritime Provinces of Canada. I will never forget the time it snowed in southwest Missouri on Halloween. Going from house to house for as long as we could stand it before piling back in the car because we were so cold. It doesn't USUALLY snow that early in Springfield, or any other part of the country for that matter this early into Fall.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-27 111421-1761585271271.png">So let's see if Mother Nature is feeling in the mood to traumatize more youth this upcoming weekend.<h1>Forecast</h1><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/2025-10-31 06-01-58-1761912346800.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Low-pressure systems will create some heavy rain in the corners of the country with some drizzle in the Midwest. Clear and dry conditions will persist for much of the country with mild temperatures for many.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/2025-10-31 06-02-14-1761912160076.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>TROUBLE SPOTS</h1>"Trouble" means a lot of different things for people on Halloween. Trouble, to us, is going to mean rain. Not much worse than spending all of that time and energy into a costume just to get rained on. While you might see some rain icons in the forecast in the northeast, there's a strong possibility we kick the rain out by the afternoon/evening, when it matters, except for portions of northern New York and Vermont. We're concerned with some areas in the Northwest, like Seattle, where the rain might be both consistent and heavy at times. Coldest spot will likely be in the Upper Midwest, but any lingering cloud cover should help keep temps from freezing during trick-or-treat hours.<h1>PICK OF THE NATION</h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-27 111630-1761585733352.png">When. Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

An upper-level low has been moving across the country, bringing rainy, windy, and cooler weather to many areas. Heavy rain caused flooding issues in the Northeast on Thursday where over 3 inches of rain fell in New York and New Jersey.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/FORECAST-1761873655316.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>We may even see minor snow accumulations in parts of the Adirondacks, as well as the Green and White mountains.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/1-1761878494694.png">As the rain clears, expect cloudy, cool, and gusty conditions to persist Friday into Saturday morning. Gusty Winds & Rain Linger in the Northeast on Friday

WEST - A series of atmospheric rivers has been responsible for wet, windy, and snowy weather in the northwestern U.S. The next round of rain and snow is taking shape as our next river pushes in. The good news is that impacts will not be as widespread and will mostly be localized to the Pacific Northwest, and the Olympics in particular.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-31 080943-1761919791723.png">Snowfall and rainfall totals will not be as heavy as they were this past weekend and into the early work week, but some areas should look for impacts as you head out on the roads.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-31 081043-1761919853205.png">Here's the "atmospheric river" we are referring to. This constant stream of moisture from the Pacific directed towards the northwest looks to favor weekend rainfall for Washington State and a little bit for Oregon. Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. Monday in Texas brought us record-breaking heat, and Tuesday, more records could fall. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/web1-1761745423728.png">Wind alerts have been issued through tonight across the central U.S. Gusts up to 50 mph.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-29 150045-1761771671013.png">Here's a look at some of the forecasted wind gusts across the Plains and into the Gulf Coast.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-29 150130-1761771695271.png">With strong winds, ongoing drought, and low relative humidity, there is critical fire danger across south Texas. There is also a red flag warning for these regions too. Strong Winds, Temperature Changes, and Severe Storms

LOS ANGELES - On Tuesday, temperatures in LA rose to record territory with a temperature of 97 degrees, which beats out the old record for October 28th of 94 in 1931. What's causing this heat? The Santa Ana winds have returned. In addition to LA, Oxnard, and Idyllwild also broke record highs on Tuesday afternoon.<h2><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-28 201221-1761703950133.png">Santa Ana Winds</h2>Whenever we have high-pressure systems out in the West Coast, the possibility of a Santa Ana wind setup becomes likely. The NWS in Los Angeles warns critical fire danger is likely on Wednesday because of low humidity, gusty winds, and high heat.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1983224741319065651" src="https://x.com/NWSLosAngeles/status/1983224741319065651"></div><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/2025-10-28 04-47-51-1761648488737.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video> During this phenomenon, winds head westward due to the high pressure's clockwise motion. These winds will pass over the dry, desert region of the southwest and head west through the mountain passages in Southern California. During their descent, the air compresses, causing their temperatures to rise.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/2025-10-28 04-53-29-1761648822406.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Web1-1761648886403.png">These winds are expected to bring well above-average temperatures for Southern California. In some spots, we can expect temperatures that are close to 15 degrees above average. This puts several cities in the high 80s in late October!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/web2-1761745222117.png">As a result, the National Weather Service has issued multiple heat advisories and red flag warnings across LA county and the surrounding areas.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-29 150955-1761772240038.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-29 150948-1761772249796.png">This heat will also come with the potential to break some additional records. Santa Ana Setup Bringing the Heat into Southern California

Slow-moving train thunderstorms produced extreme rainfall across portions of Central Florida on Sunday, triggering a flash-flood emergency in Lake County. The area recorded nearly 18" of rain in under 5 hours.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-27 155504-1761602110229.png"><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/2025-10-27 09-47-59-1761573805964.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>A few other spots along Florida's east coast experienced the heavy downpours, even breaking daily records.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Web 2-1761573435765.png">A stalled-out front was the culprit of the training showers. Flash Flood Emergency Triggered Sunday in Florida

Heat advisories will be in place for New York City and the surrounding metro on Friday as temperatures are expected to reach into the 90s and heat indices are forecast to reach the mid 90s.

According to the National Weather Service, extreme heat can cause illness and death and heat and humidity can cause heat stress during outdoor exertion and extended exposure.
