Time to put snow tires back on in Montana? Not quite, but a late-season winter storm has brought snow to the Northern Rockie! It is thanks to a cold, upper-level low moving over the region from Canada dropping temperatures low enough to support snowfall at the highest elevations and even down into the valleys. Bozeman, MT saw flakes fly on Monday afternoon! Winter weather alerts remain in place from the Canadian border into Idaho and Montana for heavy snow through Tuesday morning.
Snowfall totals will vary greatly depending on elevation, but generally, 6" of snow fell for the highest elevations over the last 48 hours. A few rain showers are lingering into the early afternoon hours, before things clear toward midweek.
If you're looking for warmth, don't worry, it's coming back. Summer returns in time for the weekend with temperatures soaring back into the 80s and even the 90s!
