She stayed in the northeast for her education, graduating Summa Cum Laude from SUNY Oswego with a B.S. in Meteorology. Just a few days after graduation, she made the cross country move to Colorado Springs, CO to begin her career at KKTV, the CBS affiliate. Lucy has covered historic blizzards, tornadoes, windstorms, the largest wildfires in Colorado state history and dust storms ... they truly "get it all" in Colorado! The Storm Prediction Center has issued a HIGH risk for severe weather for Monday into Tuesday morning. This is the highest level of risk the SPC can issue and the last time a storm threat of this magnitude was issued was on March 31, 2023. We cannot stress enough how incredibly dangerous today's severe weather threat is. Please have numerous ways to get alerts, avoid traveling away from sturdy shelter this afternoon and evening and stay weather aware. An upper-level low-pressure system will take on what's known as a negative tilt where it is oriented from southeast to northwest. This feature typically means that a low-pressure system has reached maturity. With winds in this direction and strong southerly winds at the surface, this indicates turning of wind with height, and to put it simply: tornadoes.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/05/upper setup monday-1714906648335.jpg">All modes of severe weather are likely and will be extremely dangerous: long-duration, long-track tornadoes (EF2 or stronger), hail over 2" in diameter is possible and winds stronger than 75 mph (hurricane force). The threat of violent, long-track tornadoes will exist for areas mainly in Kansas and Oklahoma. Massive hail will be possible again, with some locations of the southern Plains picking up 4" diameter hailstones in the past week - the size of SOFTBALLS!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/05/wind and hail-1715000985612.jpg">Our first few storms form in western Kansas and Nebraska midday Monday before developing into a line of storms that blasts through eastern Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota and Iowa Monday night. Meanwhile, in Oklahoma and southern Kansas, individual storms develop around dinner-time which will be our focus for tornadoes and damaging hail. Storms on the southern extent of our line will be individual through midnight when they congeal into a linear threat, bringing damaging winds and heavy rain to NE Oklahoma, eastern Kansas, and western Missouri through Tuesday morning. <video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/05/2024-05-06 07-10-04-1715001155129.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>

Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. As we head into the work week, a ridge of high pressure will dominate the Gulf Coast which could break some record high temperatures. The heat kicks off as early as Monday in the state of Texas where highs will run about 10° above average through Wednesday!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/05/05-05_rsc mon to wed-1714963572834.png">Numerous cities across the southern tier could tie or break records on Wednesday - each pink dot on the map is a city that could tie or beat their record high for May 8th!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/05/05-05_rse potential record highs-1714963639899.png">This is unseasonably warm for many of these locations, for instance, Jackson Mississippi has a forecast high of 90 on Wednesday afternoon, that is about 10 degrees above their normal high of 80!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/05/05-05_rse wed highs-1714963663002.png">For more on the record warmth be sure to join us during your regional forecast always live on WeatherNation!

As storm energy and moisture from the Gulf pushes in from the Central U.S., the severe threat moves eastward. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has issued severe weather outlooks for Tuesday through Thursday, indicating confidence in the environment to produce severe storms. During this stretch, severe weather threats are possible: damaging wind, large hail, and a few tornadoes.Related article: <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/severe-weather-outbreak-likely-monday">Severe Weather Outbreak Monday</a>On Tuesday, the severe weather threat stretches from Arkansas through the Midwest and into parts of the East Coast - a slight risk (level 2 out of 5) includes Indianapolis, Nashville, Paducah, and Charleston. Some of Monday's overnight storm complexes will move east into the Mid-South and Midwest first thing Tuesday morning with damaging winds and embedded tornadoes still likely. New storms develop later in the day as temperatures build, keeping the threat of strong storms around throughout the afternoon and evening hours on Tuesday. The afternoon storm cells will be more individual in nature meaning damaging hail and tornadoes are possible.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/05/forecast-1714998483071.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>On Wednesday, the threat shifts further south, impacting southern Missouri, Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma, and northeast Texas. The timing on Wednesday looks to be almost a copy and paste from Tuesday. A few storms will be the focus for the first half of the day with additional storm development in the afternoon and evening along a cold front. <video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/05/2024-05-06 07-29-01-1715002605995.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>The storm threat continues to push east on Thursday with a large portion of the southern I-95 corridor highlighted for the risk of severe weather. Severe Threat Lingers into the Middle of the Week

According to the UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab, 26.4" of snowfall was observed on the last day making May 4th the snowiest day of the season!<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1787160675728679277" src="https://twitter.com/UCB_CSSL/status/1787160675728679277"></div>Additional snowfall will continue for the western United States over the next couple of days. Widespread winter weather alerts have been issued for the Rockies, Tetons, Wasatch, Uinitas, and Cascades. We expect most of our snowfall to be in the higher elevations of the mountains but there have been some reports in lower elevations such as Salt Lake City.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/05/WInter Weather Alerts-1714997885985.png">Forecast models have steady moisture pushing through the western United States. Higher elevations will tend to get caught in the moisture and remain that way as we head into the beginning of the work week. Steady snow continues for the Cascades and northern Rockies today, Monday, and Tuesday as additional upper-level waves reinforce the active pattern.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/05/Future Radar Rockies-1714998360179.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Some locations may receive 8-16 inches of snow across the highest mountain peaks! Snow levels will fall to 3,000-4,000 feet most commonly, but may fall as low as 2,500' elevation.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/05/05-05-_18z snow-1714963281772.png">If it feels like snow is falling late into the season, you may be surprised to know that the season's last snow for many West Coast communities lingers into May and for the highest elevations, even into June!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/04/est avg snowfall-1714510694011.jpg">As this weather system moves across the West, it will whip up a lot of wind! The wind gusts may reach up to 55-65 miles per hour across many states, and especially at higher elevations where gusts could top 80 mph. After multiple spots in southeast Texas received one to two FEET of rain in just 24 hours in the last week, many instances of extreme flooding are ongoing. Roads are washed out, rivers and creeks are running high with water still standing over roads in some spots, and major flooding is expected to continue along rivers over the next few days. This video was taken about 20 miles north of Houston, in Humble, TX. Please remember, turn around, don't drown.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1786848270972489808" src="https://twitter.com/WeatherNation/status/1786848270972489808"></div>More heavy rain and flooding are expected to close out the weekend in southeast Texas. A moderate risk (level 3 out of 4) is issued for Houston and Lufkin.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/05/05-05_through tonight wpc-1714938620711.png">This level 3 out of 4 on the flood risk scale indicates that numerous flash floods are likely, with some significant flash flooding possible. This area corresponds with the already-flooded part of the state with standing water and rivers still in a major flood stage (see top of page).<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/05/mod flood-1714904806947.png">The heavy rainfall threat will continue across Texas due to the oversaturation of soils. Rain totals by the end of the weekend will be anywhere from 1-3" overall, but pockets of 4-5" are possible where multiple rounds of storms come through. Flooding will be expected in areas of southeast Texas already hard-hit by flooding earlier this week. Never drive through flooded roads!

Flood Threat Winding Down for the Lone Star State

Despite seeing strong storms on Saturday, what seems like a never-ending severe weather threat is ongoing in the Lone Star State. Reports of a few touchdowns of tornadoes came out of places like Kermit and Fort Stockton, TX Saturday.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1786866266076041461" src="https://twitter.com/WeatherNation/status/1786866266076041461"></div>The hail that some of these severe storms brought was nothing to mess around with. Kermit and Randalls Corner had to deal with softball-sized hail throughout Saturday afternoon and evening.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/05/Screenshot 2024-05-05 045825-1714906764420.png">The severe weather threat will be limited overnight in south Texas, Arkansas, and Mississippi. Tornado Hits West Texas, Isolated Storms Tonight

Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

It's the second day in a row cities in the northeast broke record high temperatures. Not as many records were broken Tuesday, but areas like D.C. and Binghamton, NY got high enough to break previous records. Temperatures will return closer to seasonal by Friday for many locations. Although, some spots do stay warmer.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/04/Screenshot 2024-04-30 164300-1714516987092.png">Showers and storms swept across the northeast with multiple severe warned storms. We still have the chance of a few isolated severe storms overnight with the potential of strong winds and large hail. A few areas have already seen some larger hailstones reaching 1".<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/04/FJKJFKLJ-1714526195784.png">Showers and storms will wrap up overnight. Kirk has reformed in the Atlantic! We have been watching the remnants of Kirk for the past couple of days, and it has finally become organized enough to become a tropical storm. Kirk is currently on a west track and moving straight towards the eastern Caribbean.
