The severe weather has been active this week, with 13 tornadoes touching down in the Chicago area on Wednesday! After a brief break Thursday, more strong storms affected the Great Lakes Friday. In Michigan hail up to 1.75" fell, which is golf ball sized. Storms later in the day produced gusty winds in Illinois, including on the west side of Chicago, where there was a tornado warning as well. Look at all of the damage reports Friday alone!
Overnight, storms continue to remain strong or severe. Gusty winds and hail are the primary threats but we can't rule out an isolated tornado either. Have ways to get alerts overnight, as you may be sleeping.
Several frontal boundaries continue to tap into highly unstable, moist air across the Plains and into the Upper Midwest. Individual supercells merge into a cluster of storms and continue overnight.
