A new wildfire has started in Lake County, in the Twin Lakes area of Colorado. This alpine community is west of Denver, halfway between Buena Vista and Leadville, CO. Large amounts of smoke were being produced by the fire on Tuesday afternoon. As of Tuesday evening, the size of the wildfire is around 165 acres. There are no active red flag warnings in effect for Colorado and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Twin Lakes is one of the bookend towns of Independence Pass, flanked on the other side by Aspen. It is a seasonal road open from May - October and is popular for hikers and campers.
According to local Emergency Managers, "There is a wildland fire near Interlaken in the Twin Lakes area. Leadville/Lake County Fire Rescue is on the scene. It is essential to steer clear of the affected area to allow emergency responders to work efficiently. Please avoid overwhelming dispatch with inquiries as they coordinate resources.
