Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

Heavy rain is expected to return to the South and Southeast this weekend into next week. The flood potential will begin on Saturday, increasing Sunday through Tuesday as rainfall continues to move slowly to the east.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot 2024-12-05 073105-1733409074309.png">An upper-level low-pressure system cut off from the jet stream, will slowly move east through the Four Corners into Texas. This will increase lift as gulf moisture is drawn north ahead of the advancing low. Because of the slow movement of the low, several areas are expected to see multiple rounds of heavy rain.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/12/2024-12-06 05-20-38-1733487707128.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>A few gulf showers will precede this event due to a stalled frontal boundary. As the boundary lifts, moisture will return north from the gulf. Expected scattered storms in Texas on Friday before the storms push slowly east into the weekend. The heaviest rain may not fall until Monday or Tuesday.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/12/2024-12-06 05-20-21-1733487699294.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>The Weather Prediction Center has issued multiple Excessive Rainfall Outlooks for flood potential, increasing to a level 2 risk on Sunday through Tuesday. Lake Effect snow has been causing trouble around the Great Lakes for over a week, but impacts are finally expected to wind down this weekend (that doesn't mean precipitation will end, however). Still, Friday is expected to be another rough day for travel for a few areas around Lake Erie and Ontario where lake effect snow looks hefty.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot 2024-12-06 062617-1733491600573.png">Lake effect snow warnings remain in effect for areas near Lake Erie, where another foot or more of snow is expected through Saturday morning. Winter storm warnings and advisories cover areas up toward Lake Ontatrio, including I-81 and I-90.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/12/2024-12-06 06-28-39-1733491746266.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Another weak clipper system is moving east through Canada on Friday, this will lead to strong westerly flow across the lower Great Lakes, leading to additional lake effect snow through the afternoon and evening. As winds shift to the south on Saturday ahead of another system, lake effect snow will taper off before light snow and rain move in with the next system Saturday afternoon. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot 2024-12-06 062827-1733491714439.png"> There will be moderate to major winter storm impacts for areas along the I-90 and I-81 corridors through PA and NY. Karissa grew up loving math and science, but really fell in love with Meteorology while attending the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. After two summers of storm chasing in the central plains, she knew that it was the career path for her. Standing in front of a thunderstorm and feeling the cool outflow knock her over was an experience she will never forget. After two years at COD, she transferred to Metropolitan State University of Denver. Karissa graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology. Her high school and college speech and meteorology professors were extremely supportive and pushed her to succeed. Before joining the WeatherNation team, she previously worked as the Morning Meteorologist at KCAU-TV in Sioux City, Iowa and at WMBD-TV in Peoria, IL. She recently was part of a National Edward R. Murrow award winning team for breaking news for their coverage of the EF-4 tornado in Washington, Illinois. In her free time, Karissa enjoys cooking and trying new foods. She is a self proclaimed 'TV Junkie' who can get into just about any show. She is a die hard Chicago sports fan who loves attending professional sporting events.

The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season left a mark on the southeastern U.S. that will take years to recover from.&nbsp;18 named storms.&nbsp;11 hurricanes. 5 Gulf Coast landfalls.&nbsp;<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/Screenshot 2024-11-26 133950-1732653804564.png">An above average year was all but a certainty, with record setting ocean warmth and the eventual return of La Nina.&nbsp;&nbsp;“The impactful and deadly 2024 hurricane season started off intensely, then relaxed a bit before roaring back,” said Matthew Rosencrans, lead hurricane forecaster at NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, a division of NOAA’s National Weather Service. “Several possible factors contributed to the peak season lull in the Atlantic region. The particularly intense winds and rains over Western Africa created an environment that was less hospitable for storm development.”Twelve named storms formed after the climatological peak of the season in early September. Seven hurricanes formed in the Atlantic since September 25 — the most on record for this period. (<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.noaa.gov/news-release/atlantic-hurricane-season-races-to-finish-within-range-of-predicted-number-of-named-storms">Courtesy: NOAA</a>)<div data-youtube-video=""><iframe width="640" height="480" allowfullscreen="false" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2RO-HrmdaZg" start="0"></iframe></div>Tropical storms Alberto and Chris quickly formed and fizzled into the gulf coast of Mexico, but the season will be remembered for the five systems that came ashore in the United States. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/Screenshot 2024-11-26 134015-1732654751810.png">Hurricane Beryl became the first ever category 4 in the month of June, and the Atlantic's earliest category 5 on record. After heavily damaging Caribbean islands and the Yucatan, Beryl weakened before making landfall in Matagorda, Texas as a category 1 on July 8th.&nbsp;Localized rainfall amounts topped 15”.&nbsp; At the height of the storm, 2.7 million customers in Texas were without power.&nbsp;The remnants of Beryl broke record for most tornado warnings issued in a day for multiple NWS offices across the country, including Shreveport and Lake Charles, Louisiana and as far north as Buffalo, New York!&nbsp;In all, Beryl did at least $7.2 billion dollars in damage in the U.S. And is attributed to 45 fatalities.&nbsp;After a quiet July, category 1 Hurricane Debby made landfall in the big bend of Florida in August, ringing flooding rain to the state’s nature coast.&nbsp;Parts of Manatee and Sarasota County measured nearly 20 inches of rainfall.&nbsp;Totals went on to be even higher farther north as Debby exited Georgia, and made a second landfall in Bulls Bay, South Carolina.&nbsp;As Debby crawled its way north, tornado reports went on for four straight days from South Carolina to Pennsylvania.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Hurricane Ernesto rounded out August bringing destructive flooding to Puerto Rico. Before Francine became the third hurricane of 2024 to make landfall in the U.S., coming ashore in Terrebonne Parrish, Louisiana as a category 2 on September 11th. Close to a foot of rain fell in the greater New Orleans area.&nbsp;Potential Tropical Cyclone 8 spun up soon after, with just enough time to bring 20 inches of rainfall and flood the Carolina coast.&nbsp;&nbsp;<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/NOAA Hurr Season-1732652765846.jpg">Hurricane Helene was not only the strongest hurricane to ever make landfall in Florida's big bend, but its torrential rains caused catastrophic damage in eight states.&nbsp;Hurricane Helene first made landfall 10 miles from Perry, Florida as a category four with winds of 140 mph.&nbsp;Cedar Key, Florida witnessed its highest storm surge on record, rising to at least ten feet.&nbsp;Helene’s fast movement spread hurricane force winds and tropical moisture north.&nbsp;Atlanta experienced its first ever flash flood emergency. The first of many in the southeast as southern Appalachia recorded nearly three feet of rain.&nbsp;Most of the mountain communities in western North Carolina were cut off.&nbsp; Floods swept away entire communities, closed over 400 roads, and led to countless landslides.&nbsp;Less than two weeks later, battered and bruised, residents of Florida watched as Milton became a tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico.&nbsp;Milton not only rapidly intensified, it dramatically escalated into a category 5. Its central pressure dropping to a near record low.&nbsp;As Milton's outer bands started to come ashore, a tornado outbreak tore through Florida.&nbsp;Hurricane Milton then made landfall October 9th as a category three near Siesta Key, Florida with winds of 120 mph.&nbsp;Tropicana Field was supposed to house first responders and power crews. That changed when its roof was ripped to shreds.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/Screenshot 2024-11-26 134008-1732654774617.png">As we look back on the 2024 season, we remember the lives lost and those who have lost everything.&nbsp;

ANOTHER BLAST OF COLD AIRWaking up Friday morning, low temperatures dropped back down into the 20s across the southeast. A few cities like Atlanta, Birmingham, and Jackson will start their mornings in the 20s. Wind chills in some of these areas will drop down to between 15-20 degrees prompting a Cold Weather Advisory.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot 2024-12-06 060813-1733490510970.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot 2024-12-06 060845-1733490628936.png">As we head east, Raleigh and Columbia will start in the 20s on Friday and Saturday morning. A Tsunami warning was immediately issued by the NWS Tsunami Warning Center encouraging residents along the coast to evacuate inland to higher ground.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1864754207560999121" src="https://x.com/CityofBerkeley/status/1864754207560999121"></div>By 12pm PST, the Tsunami Warning had been cancelled due to lack of observations of significant wave heights. Upon further review by the USGS, "The earthquake was primarily strike-slip, meaning two tectonic plates slid past each other. These types of earthquakes are less likely to cause tsunami because their movement is primarily horizontal with minimal vertical movement of the ocean floor."&nbsp;Videos coming in to the WeatherNation news room show rumbling and minor damage. Earthquake Shakes West Coast, Prompts Tsunami Warning

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

Cold air is plunging south behind a cold front that will make it to the Gulf Coast! We have had a cooler pattern for much of the Eastern U.S. and the Southeast in particular, and this is going to be another reinforcing shot. Temperatures will rollercoaster for many as this cold whiplash lasts a short time. Thursday and Friday morning Minneapolis will only be in the single digits. Chicago normally sees overnight lows in the upper 20s, but Thursday and Friday will see lows in the teens. Temps trend up on Saturday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/12/forecast lows-1733355379384.png">High temperatures will be cold also. Minneapolis normally has an average high of 33 for this time of year. Thursday's high temp will only be 18°. Omaha and Chicago should be around 40°, with temperatures only in the mid to upper 20s.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/12/thur-saturday-1733355396100.png">The wind chills will still be impactful. It's been a while since it snowed in parts of the Tar Heel State. January 29, 2022 was the last time measurable snow fell in the Greensboro area. Until Monday night.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot 2024-12-03 070426-1733235519665.jpg">A quick-moving clipper system that dove southeast Monday brought some high elevation snow to the Appalachian Mountains, but some of that survived down into the lower elevations east of the mountains. There were even flakes that survived down to Charlotte, about an hour and a half south of Greensboro. Mt. Holly, just northwest of Charlotte recorded a trace of snow!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot 2024-12-03 070151-1733235529116.jpg">Places like Asheboro and Winston-Salem picked up some light amounts of snow, but more than enough to pick up traffic problems. Many agencies around North Carolina are reporting slick bridges and roads, and many schools are closing or are running a delayed start. Why do smaller amounts of snow cause problems? You have to start with the temperatures. Many places got down into the upper 20's, helping the snow stick as it was falling.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot 2024-12-03 070231-1733235497866.jpg">The bad news: roads could still be slick Wednesday morning. Temperatures will dive again tonight under clear skies, and in some spots threaten record lows by the morning. Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation.
