About two-thirds of all Atlantic hurricane activity typically occurs between August 20th and October 10th. We're heading through the heart of Atlantic hurricane season, and we certainly have activity that indicates an uptick in energy. Currently, we are monitoring three areas of interest!<h1>Fernand</h1>Tropical Storm Fernand is still drifting northeast. Other than potential passing ships, it's well enough east of Bermuda to not be much of a concern.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot 2025-08-27 063344-1756298038041.png">Anyone with European plans might want to monitor Fernand, because it's following in some eerily similar footsteps as Erin. Here's where Erin is ending up:<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1960166825234432478" src="https://x.com/CIRA_CSU/status/1960166825234432478"></div><h1>Eastern Pacific</h1>Tropical Storm Juliette is still spinning in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. It's going to make a run at becoming a hurricane over the next day or so, but should remain well enough offshore to stay harmless.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot 2025-08-27 063434-1756298085879.png">We now are watching THREE other areas of interest, aside from Juliette. None of these look like they'll threaten land, with the most unique being the one passing south of Hawaii. While a large-scale Kelvin Wave isn't likely to spur activity like it has over the last two weeks, additional tropical waves could develop in the Atlantic and the Gulf/Western Caribbean. TROPICS: Fernand Spins Around Atlantic, Four Areas to Watch in the Pacific

Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

A strong Summer cold front knifed its way through the Northern Tier and Plains. Overnight lows have been dropping to record levels. More records were broken on Tuesday morning (above). More record low temperatures are possible through Thursday. Some of these potential records stretch all the way to the Gulf Coast!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot 2025-08-26 163253-1756247576984.png">Across the North Central U.S., temperatures on Wednesday morning will mainly be in the 50s but there are a few 40s!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot 2025-08-26 163418-1756247668149.png">Across the Northeastern U.S. temperatures will mostly be in the low 50s for Wednesday morning.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot 2025-08-26 163423-1756247694036.png">Another front drops out of Canada later this week. A surge of Monsoon moisture is streaming across the West including CA, NV, UT, AZ, CO, and NM. Many areas are under flood watches through Tuesday night. Some of the watches run through Wednesday. Expect up to two inches of rain in a short amount of time.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/tomer sw wwa-1756253044398.jpg">During July and August we watch for surges of Monsoon moisture. During those months, steering winds turn southerly and escort in new moisture from the Gulf and Pacific.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot 2025-08-26 161945-1756246790250.png"><h1>Timing</h1>Daily rounds of t-storms with flash flood potential are likely through Thursday.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/0826-1756246730308.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>The best time for storms will be with diurnal heating during our afternoons, but because so much moisture is in place, some morning and overnight storms will be possible. Monsoon Moisture Surges, Flood Risk From California to Colorado

Conditions for the Northwest have been hot and dry. The Flat Fire began on August 21st near Sisters, OR and has grown to over 23,000 acres (above).There is a risk for isolated dry thunderstorms (with lightning and wind but very little rainfall) through Wednesday across the Northwest. Meaning, conditions are still dry at the surface and with thunderstorms that form, the lightning can spark another fire.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot 2025-08-26 164309-1756248255531.png">Monsoonal moisture will be moving into the region, bringing some areas of relief, but also bringing flooding threats.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot 2025-08-26 164511-1756248331516.png">Flood Watches are in place through Wednesday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot 2025-08-26 164610-1756248374893.png">A few inches of rain is looking likely, especially across portions of ID, WY, and MT. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot 2025-08-26 164709-1756248433472.png">The bulk of the rain will be through Wednesday, although, some of it will continue into Thursday.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/tomer nw futurecast-1756253285798.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>More details can be found during your Western Regional Forecast :50 past the hour on WeatherNation.

Northwest: Fire Danger and Flooding

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

Upper-level high pressure will stay dominant over the western U.S., leading to dangerous heat and dry conditions (and wildfire risk). Heat alerts have come to an end for the southwest, but there are still some in the northwestern U.S.Extreme Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories remain in place across the Northwest, as temperatures are expected to run above average. Seattle has a forecast high of 88° on Tuesday, and normally averages 77°. Monsoon Moisture Drifts Into The Northwest

A strong cold front is pushing across the Front Range and Midwest. It is dropping temperatures and bringing strong storms and heavy rainfall. Front Brings Storms to the Midwest and Front Range

Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

The <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://science.nasa.gov/solar-system/meteors-meteorites/perseids/">best meteor shower of the year</a> is expected to peak this weekend! The Perseid meteor shower often producers high numbers of meteors and coincides with warm to mild temperatures, making it one of the most satisfying to take in.2024 shouldn't be an exception as the waxing crescent moon will set early enough to allow for excellent conditions.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/08/Screenshot 2024-08-10 113148-1723311247808.png">The peak this year is expected Sunday night into Monday morning, with the best conditions before sunrise on Monday the 12th. Over 50 meteors an hour could be visible under ideal conditions. To reach ideal conditions, find a place far from city lights (light pollution) and give yourself plenty of time to watch. It typically takes 15-20 minutes for eyes to fully adjust to the darkness. Meteors will appear to originate in the Northeast, near the constellation Perseus (hence the name), but try to watch as much of the sky as possible. Bring a lawn chair and some refreshments to make yourself comfortable (bug spray too!).<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/08/Screenshot 2024-08-10 105518-1723308964726.png">Cloud cover may be an issue for some areas in the Midwest, but the South and West Coast look favorable for clear skies.
