Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

Tuesday, heavy rainfall moved across the Northeast in association with an upper-level low. Totals exceeded 6-7 inches for portions of New York and New Jersey.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-29 081020-1785334228344.png"> An Excessive Rainfall Outlook remains through today as more storms are expected throughout this region. The Weather Prediction Center has placed portions of the New England area, under a MODERATE (level 3 out of 4) risk for flash flooding.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/overnighsssss-1785371222121.png">Rainfall rates could reach 1 to 2 inches per hour, allowing several inches of rain to fall in a short amount of time. This could quickly overwhelm drainage systems and lead to dangerous flash flooding. Come Thursday, the flash flooding threat is expected to fall off. A MARGINAL (level 1 out of 4) risk remains in place, however. Flooding Risk Increases as Heavy Rain Targets the Tri-State Area

An area of high pressure continues to bring the heat across the United States! Extreme heat warnings, extreme heat watches, and heat advisories are all in place across the country over the next few days. Find ways to stay cool!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/HEAT ALRRR-1785370790481.png">Another hot day across the country with cities like Denver, Atlanta, and Wichita all digging into the 90s. Phoenix will see a high of 112°, which is above average for a city that is already hot! It normally averages 106°.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-29 162557-1785364187715.png"><h1>Southwest</h1>Extreme Heat Warnings and Advisories have been issued for parts of the Desert Southwest into the upcoming weekend. The same area of high pressure responsible for heating up the plains will backtrack into the Great Basin region. That will bring the dangerous heat with it, with many areas warming well above normal getting into Saturday and Sunday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-29 081730-1785334655961.png">Temperatures for Los Angeles will climb into the 90s, with Las Vegas climbing into the 100s.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-29 081713-1785334639253.png">For everyone across the country dealing with the intense heat, practice heat safety, take frequent breaks, and stay hydrated as best as you can in the days upcoming.

<h1>Pacific</h1>Fausto is now a post-tropical cyclone. The latest advisory was issued on Wednesday morning. The only other named storm is Genevieve in the Eastern Pacific.Genevieve formed on Friday south of Acapulco, Mexico. Chewing up loads of warm water, Genevieve rapidly intensified into a Category 5 hurricane; the current strength is a Category 2 hurricane. Luckily, the storm will stay away from land. However, choppy waters and rough surf can be expected if visiting any of the Mexican cities along the Pacific coast.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-29 163402-1785364459501.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-29 163411-1785364465814.png">This storm could bring some high surf conditions to Southern California beaches this week. Waves heights 5-9 ft. are possible, especially for South-to-Southwest-facing beaches. This high surf will also occur alongside high tides. Coastal Flood Alerts have been added for Southern California into the beginning of the weekend.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-29 041147-1785319918565.png">

Genevieve Down to a Category 2 Hurricane

UPPER MIDWEST - Through Monday, dangerous tornadoes were confirmed across the state of Wisconsin. The threat for severe storms will follow a frontal boundary across the Great Lakes and Midwest through tonight due to strong upper-level winds and a very moist and unstable low-level air mass moving through. The tornado out of Menasha, WI has been labeled as a preliminary EF-3 by the National Weather Service. Peak winds were estimated to be 140 mph.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="2081823772555001897" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/2081823772555001897"></div>This same front pushed storms east on Tuesday, leading to heavy rain and severe weather across the Eastern U.S. Some hail reports out of MD, VA, and NC reached 2" in diameter.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-29 082241-1785335005411.png">For Wednesday, the southern U.S. will see the risk for severe weather. The same front has prompted a SLIGHT (level 2 out of 5) risk for severe weather around the Deep South. This is predominantly going to be a wind threat.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-29 163145-1785364321180.png">The front is expected to stall out across the region. This will give us multiple days of storms that could potentially become severe. Another MARGINAL (level 1 out of 5) risk remains in the same region come Thursday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-29 163151-1785364327620.png">There will be isolated pockets of heavy rain and potential for flooding. Conditions have been really dry out west. We've been tracking major fires across Oregon. With multiple fires burning in the same general region, they form complexes. We have two large ones we're tracking now, with containment improvements underway.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-29 040112-1785319287561.png">One of the biggest issues we'll track with these fires will be the smoke. Unfortunately, upper-level winds will send this moderate to even dense smoke across the Pacific Northwest that will impact air quality.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-29 040145-1785319317169.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-03-29 061724-1784899203154.png">This smoke is expected to lower the air quality considerably across the area through the work week. Fire Weather Continues This Week

A stalled boundary over the Southeast will keep storms in the forecast into the weekend, leading to an increased risk for flash flooding.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="2080088002332872753" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/2080088002332872753"></div><h1>Flooding</h1>Flash flooding was an issue Friday across parts of North Georgia and Northern Alabama with the slow-moving showers and storms. Another batch of storms will keep the flooding threat on the table as we move into this weekend. Make sure you have a plan of action if high water becomes an issue in your neighborhood.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-25 053112-1784979080498.jpg">All the rain that has fallen in the last month will keep the flood risk ongoing for many spots in the Mid-Atlantic.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-25 052948-1784978995612.jpg"><h1>Timing</h1>Showers and storms will continue Saturday across the Southeast. Flash flooding and even a few isolated strong storms will be possible this weekend. As the front drops south, more concentrated storm chances will move into the Sunshine State. Southeast Flood Risk Lingers Near Stalled Front

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

Tuesday brought severe weather again across parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region. Multiple tornadoes were spotted, including one in Summerville, PA. <div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="2078640402845114541" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/2078640402845114541?s=20"></div><h1>OVERNIGHT </h1>Into the overnight hours, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a marginal risk for severe storms, including the cities of Charlotte, Raleigh, and Richmond. Any area highlighted in dark green will have the potentail for strong to severe storms overnight. Damaging winds will be the primary concern, but a brief tornado can't be ruled out. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/overnigsss-1784768974407.png">Storms will continue along the frontal boundary overnight. Another concern with these storms is the heavy rain that has developed and will continue to develop as this system lingers.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/kkdss-1784769199524.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Along the stalled boundary, heavy rainfall will be possible with the training showers and thunderstorms, and flooding could occur. Another Round of Storms Targets the Northeast

The state of Alabama is prone to seeing various types of weather from severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and winter weather. For college, Jesse attended the University of South Alabama where he received his degree in Broadcast Meteorology along with minors in Math and Geography. An upper-level low from Canada is traversing across the northern parts of the United States. This pattern is going to bring down some cooler air from Canada and push into the Plains by the weekend! For some, it could be an early taste of fall!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/08/1-1723154793844.png">Let's look at two cities for example. Cheyenne's normal high is 83 degrees and Thursday's forecast calls for a high in the upper 50's! In Oklahoma City, the heat wanes for a few more days before highs drop into the 80s on Friday and even 70's on Saturday! This change up of weather will also help create some thunderstorm chances across the Plains too.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/08/Baron 2-1723154917535.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>A cold front pushing through the Plains is the reason for the cool down, but some could get some stronger storms into early Thursday.
