Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

Storms continue across the High Plains for the next several days, including overnight and into Tuesday. There is a significant risk for severe thunderstorms which could produce 2" in diameter hail and 75+ mph winds.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-24 194400-1787622304559.png">The severe chances continue again on Tuesday, with damaging winds and large hail being the main concerns with anything that develops.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-24 120213-1787594672368.png">There is a significant wind threat across the western Plains and Front Range for Tuesday; in blue is where we could surface some 75+ mph winds. Significant Winds and Hail Possible for the Plains

Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. High pressure has returned to the Southwest. Extreme Heat Warnings (in pink) have been issued for cities including Los Angeles, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Tucson, and Yuma. Extreme Heat Returns to Los Angeles and the Southwest

In addition to the hot temperatures across the Southeastern United States, there is an increasing threat of severe thunderstorms as we head through the week. On Monday, strong thunderstorms moved across the Gulf Coast, this is in the forecast again on Tuesday.<h2>Severe Outlooks</h2>On Tuesday, there is a MARGINAL (level 1 out of 5) risk for severe storms along portions of the Gulf and Atlantic coasts, from eastern Louisiana through southwestern South Carolina. Storms are expected to be more isolated in nature, developing within a moist air mass near the Gulf Coast. The main threat will once again be isolated damaging winds.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-24 193238-1787621731041.png">On Wednesday, as the main front starts to push through, portions of Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana along the Mississippi River are under a MARGINAL (level 1 out of 5) risk for severe thunderstorms, mostly a damaging wind threat.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-24 193243-1787621724850.png"><h2>Timeline</h2>Storms along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts will favor the afternoon hours through Tuesday, when surface temperatures are at their highest. By Wednesday, we're watching the next front that is expected to push through the region. This could bring a more widespread chance for thunderstorms across the Deep South, as shown in our in-house forecast model.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/08-24_rse bams-1787621762279.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Locally heavy downpours are possible, which could overwhelm some saturated soils. El Niño has been smothering tropical waves in the Atlantic this summer, with three named storms to date but only 16% of average cyclone energy! This doesn't mean the rest of the season will be just as quiet, however, as 66% of all hurricane activity in the Atlantic occurs between August 20th and October 10th.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-23 032445-1787477089898.png">Right on cue, we are seeing 2 areas of potential development in the Atlantic Basin. A tropical wave, Invest 96L, has moved off of Africa and is now in the far eastern Atlantic. In the days ahead, it may have a better chance to get its act together this week as it moves across the MDR (main development region) in the Atlantic, between Africa and the Caribbean. There is a medium chance for development right now.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-24 190303-1787619892952.png">The two primary global forecast models are showing development late-week, Both develop the system into a low, but the strength of the system varies quite a bit as the GFS deepens the low more quickly. The system is still only about halfway through the tropical Atlantic by Thursday afternoon, which means any impacts to the U.S. would be another 6-10 days out, at least. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-24 190254-1787619860112.png">Stay tuned...this is the time of the year when the Atlantic Waters can get a little rowdy. Atlantic Tropics: Two Areas of Investigation

Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

<h1>TROPICAL DEPRESSION MOKE</h1>Just a little over a week after Hurricane Lala impacted Hawaii, another system formed in the Pacific. Moke has weakened from a tropical storm to a depression, with sustained winds down to 35 mph as of Monday morning. Moke is moving at a steady pace to the north-northwest. A ridge of high pressure will continue to steer it west and away from the islands. Any lingering impacts will decrease after today. Heavy rainfall is the greater threat. A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for the Big Island of Hawaii through Monday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-23 124048-1787510458480.png"><h1>HURRICANE LALA</h1>While Lala did not make a direct landfall on the Hawaiian Islands, it still brought significant impacts. The Hawaii Department of Transportation reported that parts of Highway 11 on the Big Island were shut down due to flooding. More than 130,000 customers lost power Saturday at the height of the storm. Record heat rolls on across the Lone Star State. A stormy end to the week is taking shape for parts of the eastern U.S., where rounds of thunderstorms will bring torrential rain, localized flash flooding, damaging winds, and tornadoes.&nbsp;Thursday, storms produced significant damage across parts of Delaware and Pennsylvania. In Dover, a tornado hit, causing damage throughout the city. A high school near Lancaster, PA had its roof ripped off. Friday, storm surveys will be performed to assess some of the damage.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/VON_082026_RNE_DOVER, DE_DRIVING THROUGH THE DAMAGE IN DOVER_FB_CAITLIN HARVEY_BH_082016-1787279216568.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/VO_082026_RNE_YORK, PA_DAMAGE TO EASTERN YORK HIGH SCHOOL_YORK EMS_BH_082026-1787279282869.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Showers and storms will linger into early Friday morning over areas of the Mid-Atlantic. The severe risk will diminish for the morning, and then the risk picks up during the afternoon and evening.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/FORECAST-1787270277549.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Urban communities will be particularly vulnerable. Heavy downpours can quickly overwhelm storm drains, leaving streets, underpasses, and other low-lying areas flooded. Areas that experience multiple storms could see the flooding risk increase as the ground becomes increasingly saturated.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/PIC 2-1787274133924.jpg">A cold front moving east will provide the trigger for showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. With plenty of moisture available, some storms will be capable of producing a large amount of rain in a short period of time.&nbsp;<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-20 080419-1787234676441.png">Friday, the focus for heavier rainfall and thunderstorms is expected to extend from parts of Virginia and North Carolina toward the Delmarva Peninsula and portions of South Carolina.&nbsp;Severe storms could extend all the way down to the Gulf Coast for Friday afternoon and evening.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-21 040323-1787306617672.png">The front could linger near the East Coast rather than quickly clearing the region, allowing additional showers and storms to develop into the start of the weekend. Several inches of rain could accumulate in some locations, especially where thunderstorms repeatedly track over the same areas.&nbsp;If a roadway is covered by water, drivers should turn around and find another route. The depth of floodwater can be difficult to determine, and even relatively shallow moving water can create hazardous conditions for vehicles.&nbsp;Tune into WeatherNation TV for more details.

The state of Alabama is prone to seeing various types of weather from severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and winter weather. For college, Jesse attended the University of South Alabama where he received his degree in Broadcast Meteorology along with minors in Math and Geography. From Alabama, Jesse started his broadcast television working three years at KAVU-TV in Victoria. Recently, he finished a stint in Shreveport, LA. An upper-level low from Canada is traversing across the northern parts of the United States. This pattern is going to bring down some cooler air from Canada and push into the Plains by the weekend! For some, it could be an early taste of fall!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/08/1-1723154793844.png">Let's look at two cities for example. Cheyenne's normal high is 83 degrees and Thursday's forecast calls for a high in the upper 50's! In Oklahoma City, the heat wanes for a few more days before highs drop into the 80s on Friday and even 70's on Saturday! This change up of weather will also help create some thunderstorm chances across the Plains too.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/08/Baron 2-1723154917535.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>A cold front pushing through the Plains is the reason for the cool down, but some could get some stronger storms into early Thursday.
