Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

<p>Storms on over the past weekend packed quite a punch. An EF-1 was surveyed in Spauling, OK. Through tonight, another <strong>slight </strong>risk of severe storms will be possible across the Southern Plains. <p>The Central Plains brace for more rain this week, including thunderstorms with heavy rainfall and possible flash flooding. The larger scale pattern has Gulf moisture streaming north, this moisture transport is causing dew points to rise as far north as Minnesota. For many across the Central Plains the ground is already extremely saturated from rain over the weekend and from the month.</p><p>Soils are saturated from heavy rain over the past 5 days:</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/tomer flood 5 days-1745367582810.jpg">Additional rain over the next seven days will likely spark additional Flash Flood Watches and Warnings. Several Days with Storm Potential Spark Flood Threat

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

<p>The southeast is getting a taste of summer-like temps, bringing a hot streak. An area of high pressure is helping to lock in the heat, meaning temperatures will be above average this week. Many records will be in jeopardy from Tuesday through Sunday. Many cities across Florida, including Tallahassee and Orlando, will have the potential to tie or beat records. But it is not just Florida, cities across the south like Montgomery, Alabama, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, will be in the running to break records.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-21 191027-1745284232121.png">Looking at this week, cities across the south run above average. Tampa, Florida, has an average of 84° for this time of year, and temperatures will reach the 90s this week, bringing the heat. Little Rock, Arkansas, should be in the 70s this week, but will see highs in the low 80s.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-21 191040-1745284244577.png">Everyone will be warm, though, record high or not. Many locations are 10-15 degrees warmer than usual for this time of year, and it could stick around for the rest of the month. While it's still a little too early to talk exact degrees, the Climate Prediction Center is confident that above-average temperatures will close out April for most of the country.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-21 191054-1745284258434.png"></p>

National Park Week: Get Out and Explore

<p>At least one person was killed in Oklahoma Saturday night as several tornadoes moved across the southern tier of the state. A tornado in Hughes County injured one person and killed another. Photos are from the Hughes County Emergency Manager of a manufactured home that was destroyed. Several tornadoes also occurred in Texas, along with numerous severe thunderstorms.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Spaulding, OK tor damage 2-1745184980260.png"></p><p>Damage surveys are still incomplete in Oklahoma and Texas as of Sunday afternoon. The National Weather Service Offices in Norman, Dallas, and San Angelo are expected to complete surveys today with final results by Monday or Tuesday. Hail up to the size of tennis balls fell in Texas, while flooding and wind damage also caused issues Saturday into early Easter Sunday.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-20 153400-1745185001695.png"></p><p>Storms began in west Texas, producing a confirmed tornado NW of San Angelo, before becoming more widespread through the late afternoon, continuing to shift north and east overnight. <p>Very large hail has surfaced along our cold front from Texas through Kentucky from Sunday night. Hail upwards of 2.75" has come out of Sunday's storms from Texas through Alabama.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-24 100644-1742832577772.png">The SPC has removed the severe weather outlook along the Gulf Coast, and the rain is winding down. An isolated storm or two will be possible through the overnight hours.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/vcv-1742866554694.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>Some heavy rain along the Gulf may lead to flooding, there is a MARGINAL (level 1 out of 4) risk that rainfall could exceed flash flooding guidance in the areas highlighted below.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-24 125453-1742842553239.png">Rainfall totals could surpass 1-3 inches in some locations, but a lot will be coming down in a short period of time.
