WEST - A series of atmospheric rivers will be responsible for wet, windy, and snowy weather in the northwestern U.S over the next several days. The first of the rivers moved in yesterday afternoon, bringing heavy rainfall to the Pacific Northwest for Halloween. That same moisture will dump rain over the same areas during Saturday morning, then it will move farther inland. The next round of rain and snow is taking shape as our next river pushes in. The good news is that impacts will not be as widespread and will mostly be localized to the Pacific Northwest, and the Olympics in particular.Flood watches are already issued for portions of the northwest and west-central Washington. 3-5" of rainfall can come down, leading to flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-01 073155-1762004800778.png">Snowfall and rainfall totals will not be as heavy as they were this past weekend and into the early work week, but some areas should look for impacts as you head out on the roads.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-01 073406-1762004067756.png">Here's the "atmospheric river" we are referring to. This constant stream of moisture from the Pacific directed towards the northwest looks to favor weekend rainfall for Washington State and Oregon. Melissa Post-Tropical After Bringing Catastrophic Impacts to Western Jamaica

Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

We're well on our way to winter but high temperatures will be soaring across the Western and Central United States to start the month of November. Upper-level ridging is expected to build across the Southwest this weekend before shifting slightly east into next week. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-11-01 063419-1762000546073.png">Record high temperatures are possible around Nevada and Arizona Saturday before record warmth targets the Front Range of Colorado on Sunday. A few record highs will be possible in Colorado and Texas into Monday and Tuesday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-11-01 063220-1762000559023.png">Another ridge of high pressure will move in after a cut-off low moves through the Southwest. Record Warmth Possible From Nevada to Texas

An upper-level low has been moving across the country, bringing rainy, windy, and cooler weather to many areas. Heavy rain caused flooding issues in the Northeast on Thursday where over 3 inches of rain fell in New York and New Jersey. The system moves out later tonight but parts of Northern New England could see some light snow.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/New Baron Video 3-1761966114231.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>We may even see minor snow accumulations in parts of the Adirondacks, as well as the Green and White mountains.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/1-1761966147465.png">As the rain clears, expect cloudy, cool, and gusty conditions to persist into Saturday morning. I will never forget the time it snowed in southwest Missouri on Halloween. Going from house to house for as long as we could stand it before piling back in the car because we were so cold. It doesn't USUALLY snow that early in Springfield, or any other part of the country for that matter this early into Fall.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-27 111421-1761585271271.png">So let's see if Mother Nature is feeling in the mood to traumatize more youth this upcoming weekend.<h1>Forecast</h1><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/2025-10-31 06-01-58-1761912346800.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Low-pressure systems will create some heavy rain in the corners of the country with some drizzle in the Midwest. Trouble, to us, is going to mean rain. Not much worse than spending all of that time and energy into a costume just to get rained on. While you might see some rain icons in the forecast in the northeast, there's a strong possibility we kick the rain out by the afternoon/evening, when it matters, except for portions of northern New York and Vermont. We're concerned with some areas in the Northwest, like Seattle, where the rain might be both consistent and heavy at times. Coldest spot will likely be in the Upper Midwest, but any lingering cloud cover should help keep temps from freezing during trick-or-treat hours.<h1>PICK OF THE NATION</h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-27 111630-1761585733352.png">When. Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. Strong Winds, Temperature Changes, and Severe Storms

LOS ANGELES - On Tuesday, temperatures in LA rose to record territory with a temperature of 97 degrees, which beats out the old record for October 28th of 94 in 1931. What's causing this heat? The Santa Ana winds have returned. In addition to LA, Oxnard, and Idyllwild also broke record highs on Tuesday afternoon.<h2><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-28 201221-1761703950133.png">Santa Ana Winds</h2>Whenever we have high-pressure systems out in the West Coast, the possibility of a Santa Ana wind setup becomes likely. The NWS in Los Angeles warns critical fire danger is likely on Wednesday because of low humidity, gusty winds, and high heat.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1983224741319065651" src="https://x.com/NWSLosAngeles/status/1983224741319065651"></div><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/2025-10-28 04-47-51-1761648488737.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video> During this phenomenon, winds head westward due to the high pressure's clockwise motion. These winds will pass over the dry, desert region of the southwest and head west through the mountain passages in Southern California. During their descent, the air compresses, causing their temperatures to rise.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/2025-10-28 04-53-29-1761648822406.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Web1-1761648886403.png">These winds are expected to bring well above-average temperatures for Southern California. In some spots, we can expect temperatures that are close to 15 degrees above average. This puts several cities in the high 80s in late October!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/web2-1761745222117.png">As a result, the National Weather Service has issued multiple heat advisories and red flag warnings across LA county and the surrounding areas.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-29 150955-1761772240038.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-29 150948-1761772249796.png">This heat will also come with the potential to break some additional records. A storm system has been moving into the Southwest, bringing areas of rain and thunderstorms. As the moisture moves into the mountains and higher elevations, it hits the cold air, producing pockets of heavy snow. By tonight (Monday), the system will move to the east and south, bringing an end to the precipitation in Southern California.
