Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

UPPER MIDWEST - Through Monday, dangerous tornadoes were confirmed across the state of Wisconsin. The threat for severe storms will follow a frontal boundary across the Great Lakes and Midwest through tonight due to strong upper-level winds and a very moist and unstable low-level air mass moving through. The tornado out of Menasha, WI has been labeled as a preliminary EF-3 from the National Weather Service. Peak winds were estimated to be 140 mph.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="2081823772555001897" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/2081823772555001897"></div><h2>Tuesday Storms</h2>More storms are expected ahead of the front today. As the front slides east, so will the chances of severe weather. A SLIGHT (level 2 out of 5) risk for severe weather will be in place over the Mid-Atlantic and portions of the Northeast.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-28 102517-1785255926926.png">Like Monday, damaging winds are expected to be the main threat we'll watch for on Tuesday. However, still can't rule out tornadoes.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-28 102450-1785255903029.png">For Tuesday's storms, the same frontal boundary tracks east and will run into some Atlantic moisture to help build instability for severe weather chances. These storms will move over the Appalachians, Carolinas, and Mid-Atlantic as an upper level trough and cold front help support thunderstorm updrafts.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/2026-07-28 04-17-18-1785233855526.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h2>Flooding Risk</h2>In addition to severe weather threats, the risk for flooding will increase as storms slow down and move over saturated soils. Our in-house model shows heavy areas of rainfall that may exceed flash flooding guidance.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-28 041929-1785233986220.png">Therefore, excessive rainfall outlooks have been issued out east for Tuesday and Wednesday as thunderstorms move through. Currently, on Tuesday the Weather Prediction Center has upgraded to a MODERATE (level 3 out of 4) risk for flash flooding across New York City and Philadelphia.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-28 082431-1785248676969.png">On Wednesday, the heaviest of the rain will impact more of New England, causing a SLIGHT (level 2 out of 5) risk for flash flooding.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-28 082523-1785248727438.png">

Severe Threat Marches East This Afternoon

<h1>Pacific</h1>Tropical Storm Fausto continues to track west, along with Major Hurricane Genevieve that formed on Friday. Weakening to a tropical storm, Fausto is tracking westward and will continue weakening to a tropical depression. In the latest forecast cone from the National Hurricane Center, Fausto is expected to track further north, away from the Islands. However, coastal impacts are still expected. Large swells and strong currents will impact the islands next week, but wind and rain impacts from the system itself cannot be ruled out. We will continue to keep you updated!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-28 083123-1785249088262.png">The main threat heading towards the Hawaiian Islands will be increased surf. High Surf Warnings are in effect on the eastern shores of the Hawaiian Islands for surf reaching 14-18 feet. These alerts remain in effect through Wednesday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-28 083157-1785249123132.png"><h1>Genevieve</h1>Genevieve formed on Friday south of Acapulco, Mexico. Chewing up loads of warm water, Genevieve rapidly intensified into a Category 5 hurricane; the current strength is a Category 3 hurricane. Luckily, the storm will stay away from land. However, choppy waters and rough surf can be expected if visiting any of the Mexican cities along the Pacific coast. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-28 102002-1785255612268.png">This storm could bring some high surf conditions to Southern California beaches this week. Waves heights 5-9 ft. are possible, especially for South-to-Southwest-facing beaches. This high surf will also occur alongside high tides. An area of high pressure continues to bring the heat across the United States! There will be a little relief for some, but a lot of areas will remain hot! Multiple records were broken on Monday, including Garden City, who got all the way up to 110°, beating out the old record of 108°. More records will be possible this afternoon.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-28 101025-1785255037244.png">There are over 100 million people under heat alerts, about a third of the U.S. population. Extreme heat warnings, extreme heat watches, and heat advisories are all in place across the country over the next few days. Find ways to stay cool!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-28 044010-1785235221989.png"><h1>Central U.S.</h1>As high pressure expands westward, the upper high also expands northward into the High Plains and Upper Midwest. Heat alerts have been issued for areas from the Northern Rockies out into the Great Lakes with some areas remaining in the alerts through Tuesday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-28 044112-1785235284871.png">Lastly, for the Southern Plains, the high heat sticks around for the weekend and most of this week because of high pressure. Feel like temperatures will dig into well into the 100s for multiple cities.<h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-28 044133-1785235308569.png">Southwest</h1>Extreme Heat Warnings and Advisories have been issued for parts of the Desert Southwest into the upcoming weekend. The same area of high pressure responsible for heating up the plains will backtrack into the Great Basin region. That will bring the dangerous heat with it, with many areas warming well above normal getting into Saturday and Sunday. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-28 101530-1785255361696.png">For everyone across the country dealing with the intense heat, practice heat safety, take frequent breaks, and stay hydrated as best as you can in the days upcoming.

Conditions have been really dry out west. We've been tracking major fires across Oregon. With multiple fires burning in the same general region, they form complexes. We have two large ones we're tracking now, with containment improvements underway.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-28 042926-1785234580183.png">One of the biggest issues we'll track with these fires will be the smoke. Unfortunately, upper-level winds will send this moderate to even dense smoke across the Pacific Northwest that will impact air quality.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-28 084608-1785249972544.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-03-29 061724-1784899203154.png">This smoke is expected to lower the air quality considerably across the area through the work week. A stalled boundary over the Southeast will keep storms in the forecast into the weekend, leading to an increased risk for flash flooding.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="2080088002332872753" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/2080088002332872753"></div><h1>Flooding</h1>Flash flooding was an issue Friday across parts of North Georgia and Northern Alabama with the slow-moving showers and storms. Another batch of storms will keep the flooding threat on the table as we move into this weekend. Make sure you have a plan of action if high water becomes an issue in your neighborhood.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-25 053112-1784979080498.jpg">All the rain that has fallen in the last month will keep the flood risk ongoing for many spots in the Mid-Atlantic.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-25 052948-1784978995612.jpg"><h1>Timing</h1>Showers and storms will continue Saturday across the Southeast. Flash flooding and even a few isolated strong storms will be possible this weekend. As the front drops south, more concentrated storm chances will move into the Sunshine State. Southeast Flood Risk Lingers Near Stalled Front

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

Tuesday brought severe weather again across parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region. Multiple tornadoes were spotted, including one in Summerville, PA. <div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="2078640402845114541" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/2078640402845114541?s=20"></div><h1>OVERNIGHT </h1>Into the overnight hours, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a marginal risk for severe storms, including the cities of Charlotte, Raleigh, and Richmond. Any area highlighted in dark green will have the potentail for strong to severe storms overnight. Damaging winds will be the primary concern, but a brief tornado can't be ruled out. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/overnigsss-1784768974407.png">Storms will continue along the frontal boundary overnight. Another concern with these storms is the heavy rain that has developed and will continue to develop as this system lingers.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/kkdss-1784769199524.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Along the stalled boundary, heavy rainfall will be possible with the training showers and thunderstorms, and flooding could occur. Another Round of Storms Targets the Northeast

The upper-level low train continues to keep the weather pattern active for the Midwest. As this system moved through today, strong storms developed, bringing damaging winds, large hail, and tornado warnings.<h1>Severe Outlook</h1>Overnight, we have a slight risk for strong storms from the Midwest to the Great Lakes. The biggest concern will be damaging winds, but large hail and a few tornadoes are also possible.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/enhannfff-1784599474298.png">Some storms could be packing a significant punch. Hen-egg sized hail and hurricane-force wind gusts will be possible with the strongest storms. Some storms will have a chance to see large tracking tornadoes.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/fjfjfjfjfsss-1784599821708.png"><h1>Forecast Timing</h1>Overnight, as the frontal boundary moves to the south/east, storms will continue to ride along it. Another Round of Severe Weather for the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes

Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation.
