Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. <p>An upper-level trough moving through the Great Lakes will head to the Northeast to bring rain, snow, winds, and lake effect snow by Thanksgiving.</p><h2>Forecast Timing</h2><p>A cold front will continue to push through the northeast and Atlantic Coast this afternoon to produce a few isolated to scattered rain showers. In the meantime, a low-pressure system working over the Great Lakes will continue to produce heavy snowfall, and once it clears the Great Lakes and heads into the northeast, lake effect bands will pick up for the snowbelt regions.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/11-25_rne_bams3k-1764179812680.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p></p><h2>Snow Forecast</h2><p><strong>Winter weather alerts </strong>have been issued across the eastern shores of the Great Lakes through Friday. These winter alerts are for widely varying snowfall totals, but between 1 to 2 feet is possible, as well as winds as high as 50 mph. These combined could lead to whiteout conditions for Thanksgiving travel.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-26 105831-1764179941024.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-26 105837-1764179958031.png"></p><h2>Wind Forecast</h2><p>If you're holding a balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, the winds are what concern you. Lake Effect Snow for the Northeast

<p>While we finish our Thanksgiving food and head back home, loads of people in the upper-Midwest are in store for a MAJOR cool down going into next week. The Climate Prediction Center has great confidence of seeing some well below average temperatures going into early December.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/web1-1764173077350.png"></p><p>But what's going on? Well it all starts at the Polar Vortex, which typically traps arctic air where it belongs, at the North Pole. However, it's expected to weaken into the next week. As a result, frigid polar air descends south, through Canada, impacting northern areas of the U.S.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/2025-11-26 11-29-15-1764174576719.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>Now let's have a look at some of the impacts. Temperatures across the upper-Midwest will dwindle down into the single digits, with places like Minneapolis having a forecast low of only 1 degree next Monday.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-26 094606-1764175577974.png"></p><p>We can also expect the winds to kick up as this arctic air makes its way down south. This could spell trouble as some of these wind chill values will likely breach sub-zero temperatures. Some of these values getting as cold as 35 degrees below zero on Monday morning.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/web4-1764174125765.png"></p><p>With such a major cool down on the way, it's likely to shake things up in our atmosphere. Major Cooldown in Store for the Upper-Midwest

<p>A low-pressure system blowing through the High Plains has already produced upwards of half a foot of snow, with an isolated total of 15" in Montana, and winds up to nearly 80 mph! This system will continue producing snow, rain, high winds, and reduced visibility across the northern Plains, Upper Midwest, and Great Lakes through Thursday.</p><h1>Wind Outlook</h1><p>Winds have already gusted up to nearly 80 mph in the High Plains, Wasta, and Midland, South Dakota has produced 78 mph gusts! With travel ramping up, the bigger concern might have to be higher-profile vehicles on plenty of east-west facing interstates. Wind Advisories remain in effect for the Midwest and Ohio Valley.</p><h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-26 062023-1764163236021.png">Snow Outlook</h1><p>Widespread <strong>Winter Weather Alerts</strong> remain in effect from Minnesota to Michigan as this low-pressure system drops in. Heavy snow, with rates of 1-2" per hour, combined with wind gusts upwards of 40-50 mph, will make driving extremely dangerous. Whiteout conditions could make travel nearly impossible.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-26 055301-1764161602718.png"><strong>Blizzard Warnings</strong> are in place for portions of Wisconsin and Michigan. When visibility is reduced to 1/4 or less, winds are greater than 35 mph, and this lasts for 3 hours, this classifies a winter storm as a blizzard.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-26 061937-1764163186908.png">Since this system is fast-moving, the Dakotas will only see widespread totals from 1-4", with heavier amounts along I-29 south of Fargo. Totals will get heavier through the heart of Minnesota, reaching up to 6-12". However, where the heaviest totals are expected, in Northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, one to two FEET of accumulation is possible. Some locations could see closer to three feet, where enhanced by Lake Effect.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/web1-1764172274629.png"></p><h1>Timing</h1><p>Snowfall is tapering off in Minnesota early Wednesday, but blowing snow could still slow travel throughout the day. Cold air on the back side of the low will make for a blustery Wednesday. Lake effect snow will continue in Michigan through Thanksgiving. <p>It is that time of year again—when millions of Americans hit the road or the skies to connect with friends and family. AAA is expecting a record number of travelers this year, surpassing the record-breaking 2024. Most travelers will be hitting the road vs flying.</p><p></p><div data-youtube-video=""><iframe width="640" height="480" allowfullscreen="false" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/o78PUXSJCJU" start="0"></iframe></div><p></p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-17 104347-1763401813998.png"></p><p>With millions hitting the roads, traffic will be hard to avoid, no matter where you are heading. However, there will be some better times to do your traveling. AAA suggests starting the journey early, but with a reasonable night of sleep the night prior.</p><p></p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-17 105052-1763401888415.png"></p><p>With so many traveling over the holidays, there are some favored destinations. A Record Breaking Thanksgiving Travel Week Expected

<p>Areas in southeast Houston quickly took cover as a tornado-warned storm clipped some of the northeast suburbs. Multiple people saw this on the ground, with confirmation coming from radar that afternoon, as well. Below is the lifespan of the storms, as it went into areas close to The Woodlands and Spring.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/2025-11-25 08-19-33-1764084060214.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>The storm left pretty extensive damage in its wake, toppling trees and damaging roofs early Monday afternoon. NWS Houston Confirms Two Tornadoes from Monday's Storms

<p>Tuesday's storms brought damage to some of the communities of the southeastern U.S. As the front marches east overnight and into Tuesday, the Storm Prediction Center has downgraded the risk for severe weather to<strong> MARGINAL</strong> (level 1 out of 5) across portions of Alabama, Georgia, and Florida.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-25 195033-1764125449340.png"></p><h2>Storm Timing</h2><p>Storms continue to move east along the cold front overnight. <p style="margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;"><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; color: #454545;">Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

<p><span style="color: rgb(13, 13, 13)">Hurricane Melissa was a devastating category 5 storm that made landfall in Jamaica as one of the strongest systems on record in the Atlantic Basin.</span></p><p><span style="color: rgb(13, 13, 13)">A dropsonde recorded a wind gust of 252 mph shortly before landfall, which was verified this week by NSF NCAR (U.S. National Science Foundation National Center for Atmospheric Research) to be accurate, making it the strongest gust ever recorded in a tropical cyclone.</span></p><p><span style="color: rgb(13, 13, 13)">WeatherNation Meteorologist Rob Bradley discusses the data and Melissa's intense winds with hurricane researcher Andy Hazelton, who was working the data position on the reconnaissance flight that recorded the record gust.</span></p><div data-youtube-video=""><iframe width="640" height="480" allowfullscreen="false" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/n8DyYwpvi0w" start="0"></iframe></div><p>What are meso-vortices? <strong>Wintry weather in the Northeast</strong>

A storm system that brought several inches of snow to parts of Iowa and Wisconsin has brought snow to parts of the Great Lakes and Northeast today. Many areas across Ohio and Upstate New York woke up to snow covered surfaces this morning. As snow and rain are still falling across parts of the Northeast.

<strong>Fire concerns across the Southwest</strong>

A digging trough across the western United States will bring with it increasing fire concerns across the Southwest. The increase will mainly be due to wind, as wind alerts have been issued across this region. Wind gusts are forecast to approach 70 mph.
