Tornadoes Kill 2 In Tennessee, Damage Homes in Kentucky Thursday

Two rounds of severe weather, including tornadoes, tore through the Mid-South on Thursday. The morning round of storms occurred in the hours leading up to sunrise, with two EF-1 tornadoes confirmed in Kentucky. Another round of severe storms raced across Tennessee and Kentucky in the evening, producing at least three tornadoes. One tornado in Morgan County killed two people and injured at least 3, according to local law enforcement.

Tornado surveys have concluded, but results indicate EF-2 damage for the deadly Morgan County tornado, with EF-1 damage elsewhere. According to NWS Morristown, there has only been 12 February confirmed tornadoes in these region of East Tennessee and Western Virginia. The last confirmed tornado back in 2011 and the fourth tornado in Grainger County, TN.

The Storm Prediction Center issued a risk for isolated tornadoes in the region. Storms caused damaged mostly after dark as they moved from NW to SE. Flash flooding, hail, and straight-line wind damage also occurred.
