Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

A slight risk for severe weather continues overnight for portions of the Northwest, including Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR. This is not something we see often! Both Seattle and Portland are under a Slight Risk of severe weather.A powerhouse system will spin onshore, but it's coming on the heels of record-warm temperatures. That combination typically doesn't happen up here, especially not this early. The Storm Prediction Center has a significant hail threat along the I-5. This means hailstones greater than 2" will be possible.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-26 211020-1743045051565.png">The tornado threat has also been downgraded to a 2% risk. It is essential to have multiple ways to get alerts, as the storms continue overnight.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/tortor-1743037648017.png">The thunderstorms will continue through the night, and multiple waves will move through the Northwest keeping things active.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/severenw-1743045213075.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Heavy rainfall could lead to additional flooding in the Pacific Northwest. Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. TEXAS - After an increase in drought conditions has overwhelmed the state of Texas, rain in the forecast is certainly needed, and rain is what we'll get. Unfortunately, the price of extensive drought and incoming rain is this risk for flash flooding. Drought-stricken soils often have difficulty retaining water quickly, which causes runoff and flooding.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-25 173906-1742946329332.png">The Weather Prediction Center has issued excessive rainfall outlooks for the next few days. Heavy rain continues through Thursday, so there is a level 3, MODERATE, risk of flash flooding across southern and Gulf Texas.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-26 210953-1743045020088.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-26 210959-1743045024648.png">According to the WPC, rainfall totals may reach up to 5-10", but localized amounts may reach amounts upwards of 10-15". Given the environment we are looking at, rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour are a possibility.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-26 210948-1743045028706.png">Heavy rainfall has started in southern Texas, and the pattern will remain active for the next few days. The soils may quickly become overwhelmed by the amount of rain in these areas, increasing the flood threat.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/rea-1743037913390.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>In addition to this flooding potential, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a risk for severe weather for southern Texas each day through Friday, with an area of south Texas being upgraded to a slight risk for the storms on Thursday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-26 210757-1743045035454.png">There will be an isolated tornado threat on Thursday across portions of Texas. Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

A strong area of high pressure has taken over the West, which means warm-to-hot temperatures are in effect for this portion of the country. Another round of records was set today across portions of the West. Portland saw a high of 82°, beating the previous daily record of 73°, which also breaks the Monthly record for March! Records were set in Laramie and Rawlins, Wyoming, where the temps reached 70° in both cities, beating out the old records.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/nw r-1743038333798.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/rsc r-1743038333796.png">As our ridge shifts east to make room for our trough, our records will shift east as well. Denver, CO, and Salt Lake City, UT normally average highs in the upper 50s for this time of year. Both of these cities will see highs in the upper 70s on Thursday!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/swd-1743038471870.png">The Northern Rockies could see rapid snowmelt through the week as high temperatures climb to more than 20° above average. Billings, Cheyenne, and Rapid City are all expected to climb into the 70s. Much cooler air works its way in for the weekend, and the temps will drop tremendously! LOWER MO VALLEY - A few little perturbations in the jet stream, known as shortwaves, will skirt through portions of the north-central United States on Thursday and Friday and bring the chance for severe weather.On Thursday, the Storm Prediction Center highlighted a SLIGHT (level 2 out of 5) risk for severe weather across portions of Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa. The main threat for storms will be large hail as a warm front typically helps to create hail storms.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-26 141850-1743021009826.png">On Friday, the SPC highlights a MARGINAL (level 1 out of 5) risk for severe weather from Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The main threat will also be hail.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-26 141858-1743021040449.png">As we time this system out, our in-house forecast model, on Thursday as the warm front drops in and taps into Gulf moisture, thunderstorms will develop along this boundary. The risk for isolated large hail will peak in the early evening of Thursday. Portland, Dallas to Miami are just a few cities with thunderstorm potential today. The greatest chances for severe thunderstorms will be for parts of the Pacific Northwest. Seattle and Portland are under a rare level 2 slight risk for severe issued by the Storm Prediction Center. We've also been smashing heat records, which is fueling storms so we are watching a handful of areas over the next 3 days with thunderstorm potential and even severe. Rain and melting snow will increase the avalanche risk in the High Cascades, volcanoes, and mountains of British Columbia, Idaho, and Montana. These are sometimes referred to as 'wet avalanches'. Patrick Crawford has always been a huge weather buff! He grew up in Plano, Texas, and it was there that he experienced what Mother Nature was capable of doing. He would always turn on the television to see what local meteorologists were saying about the weather. That's when he realized he wanted to be a meteorologist.

Patrick graduated from Northern Illinois University (’04) with a degree in Meteorology and a double minor in Mathematics and Geography. Broadcast Meteorology has been great to him and he has been able to work in television markets all across the country. Some of his stops have included New Orleans, Green Bay and even Yuma, Arizona. He is so excited to be part of the WeatherNation team.

He has been awarded the prestigious CBM (Certified Broadcast Meteorologist) weather seal from the American Meteorological Society.
