Intense rain and wind began impacting California on Thursday as a strong Pacific trough began moving inland. Flooding reports and landslides have been reported across the entire state over the last few days!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-16 065311-1763301203832.jpg">Over the past few days, some areas have already received more than 8-9 inches of rain!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-16 065234-1763301212206.jpg">The latest push of rain and snow is spinning down the coast into Monday. Pacific Low Bringing Active Weather Across California

Although a cold front has worked its way into the northern states, the upper-level ridge remains in place across the Central Plains south into the Lower Rio Grande Valley. This has sent temperatures soaring past normal November highs.<h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-15 164416-1763250303040.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-15 164428-1763250320569.png">Southern Plains</h1>Further south, the cold front won't be bringing cooler air. Although Texas is no stranger to heat, temperatures will feel more like summer, with some locales reaching high temperatures 20°+ above average!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/MON SL-1763327860590.png"><h1>Southeast</h1>As the ridge migrates further east, places like Tennessee and North Carolina will get a bump to their afternoon highs. Record Heat Continues This Week

The next few days are going to be really nice with above-average temperatures across the Central and Southern Plains. Highs are expected to be in the 70s and 80s. As we jump ahead a few days, the middle and end of next week are looking quite active and stormy! The stubborn high-pressure ridge will begin to break down enough to allow for some of the energy from the West to push eastward.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-16 134938-1763326200561.png">Although we are a couple of days out from the event, some of the early signs point to heavy rain and severe chances increasing across the Southern Plains starting Wednesday. No severe outlook has been highlighted but that could change as we get closer to the middle of the week. Along with the severe threat, the incoming pattern shift will create a heavy rain threat for parts of the Plains. While the moisture is needed for parts of the South, a flood threat is looking possible with repeated rounds of storms during the second half of next week!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-16 134941-1763326208106.png">The part of the forecast that's hard to nail down this far in advance: the severe threat. Are there ingredients that could help power severe storms? Absolutely. Record heat building from Texas into the Deep South could certainly help drive storms to pack damaging winds or large hail. This far in advance, it's still a bit uncertain, however. Active Pattern Developing Across the Central U.S. Next Week

Low pressure will track through the Northeast this weekend, and has been posing the threat of rain, snow, and ice. Winter weather alerts remain in place for heavy snow in northern Maine, mixed snow and ice from northern New York through New Hampshire, and even lake effect snow warnings for western Pennsylvania.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-16 135038-1763326247935.png">Rain and thunderstorms are moving in now before it turns to mostly snow Sunday into Monday, with some heavy lake effect snow possible. All precipitation types will be possible with this wave.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/123-1763326342250.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Mountains in northern New York and New England can expect a lighter wintry mix Saturday evening before heavier snow works in Sunday into Monday. Areas SE of Lakes Ontario and Erie can expect pockets of 3-6 inches when all is said and done.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-16 135042-1763326352210.png">As of now, with the current temperature setup, some freezing rain will be possible as this moves through. Totals accretions of ice are forecast to reach 0.2" in some areas, not enough to cause power outages but certainly enough to make elevated surfaces quick slick. Another system will follow in the footsteps of this one, closer to the middle of the week. Keep up with your East regional forecast as we inch closer to then.

With photos and videos prove that skygaziers are spotting them much farther south in the United States and Europe over the last two years. It begs the question...Why are we seeing these geomagnetic storms that are far more reaching than normal?The reason? The sun is undergoing a dramatic magnetic shift. Every 11 years, its poles reverse, creating intense magnetic twists and disturbances that fuel these vivid light shows.Aurora lovers, rejoice! The Space Weather Prediction Center correctly said Tuesday, November 11th, that aurora chances could be seen as far south as Alabama and California. Space weather forecasters predict more dazzling displays AGAIN Wednesday night into Thursday.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1988725181372629334" src="https://x.com/NWSSWPC/status/1988725181372629334"></div>ANOTHER coronal mass ejection (CME) is expected to arrive at and impact the Earth with the potential for elevated geomagnetic response, AKA: more auroras. As of 1 pm ET on November 12th, the SWPC issued a Geomagnetic Storm Watch of G4 or higher, the same alert level issued for Tuesday night into Wednesday!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-12 112939-1762972276799.png"><h3>THE FORECAST:</h3>Timing with the arrival of CMEs and their corresponding aurora is difficult to forecast, but this is the latest outlook from the Space Weather Prediction Center (released around midday Wednesday) for Wednesday night. Solar Storm Visible as far south as The South - Another Round Arrives Tonight

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

The season’s first Arctic blast surged into the South, arriving nearly three weeks ahead of meteorological winter, which begins December 1. Driven by a deep upper-level trough, this system has funneled frigid Canadian air all the way down to Texas. Multiple record lows were set over the past few days across the south and southeast. The lake effect snow season has arrived, with heavy snow expected now through Tuesday. Places in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan have already received a foot of snow! <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-10 054716-1762778844004.jpg"> Winter weather alerts remain in place all across the shores of the Great Lakes through Tuesday. An additional 6-12" in some locations, with heavy snowfall rates likely reducing visibility at times, will make travel very difficult.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-11 073236-1762871565435.jpg"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-11 105614-1762883788305.png"><h1>How Lake Effect Works</h1>Water has a much higher heat capacity than air, meaning it takes more time to warm up and cool down. This leads to "mild" water temperatures in the Great Lakes while the air overhead can be much cooler. As the cold, dry air moves over these areas, it's able to evaporate moisture from the lakes until it condenses into clouds and precipitation before falling out over land. Typically, we need at least a 13° F difference between the lake water and the air aloft (around 1500 m, or 4500-5000 ft) for lake effect snow to form.<h1>Forecast</h1>With winds coming over the Great Lakes, we can still anticipate lake effect snowfall to continue. Next, a quick-moving clipper will move through to bring a few wintry bands to the snowbelt.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/11-11 rne-1762883738383.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Take this snow event as an example for the next one, make sure your vehicle is ready for winter travel with some good tread on your tires and a winter driving kit.
