<p><strong>WeatherNation</strong> wants to make sure you are prepared ahead of the upcoming severe weather season. We are tackling a different topic each day so you know exactly what to expect this Spring and beyond. From forecasting science to prep and safety, we've got you covered!</p><h1>MONDAY- Prep &amp; Safety</h1><p>We kicked off Severe Weather Awareness Week this year, preparing you and your household from the jump. Take some of these tips and practice them, either mentally or physically, so you know how to respond when severe weather rolls in.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-01 072939-1772375395902.jpg">When severe weather is in the forecast, WeatherNation and NWS Meteorologists will communicate the level and proximity of the threat through watches and warnings. A <strong><u>WARNING </u></strong>is issued when severe weather is happening or imminent. If a warning is issued, it's time to take shelter immediately!</p><p>Some people rely on outdoor warning sirens to alert them when a tornado is near, but that technology is old and it is only meant to be heard out side. <h1>THURSDAY</h1><p>We have two days with two different forcing mechanisms to focus on. Thursday's will be the dryline. Often with dryline setups, the forcing isn't as strong, so there will be few storms. However, those fewer storms will have less competition for resources, making them a little more effective at becoming severe. Massive hail could be the biggest concern. However, the tornado threat will be there in West Texas and Oklahoma</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-04 143636-1772660208117.png">There is a risk for large hail in portions of Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas for Thursday. Currently, 2"+ in diameter or large hail is possible.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-04 143640-1772660240430.png"></p><p>The initial storms will merge into a cluster as they move northeast overnight. The severe threat will continue even after they merge. A significant tornado threat will be in place with the next 2 severe weather outlooks. </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/AAA_WEB1-1772719871058.png"></p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/2026-03-04 08-30-54-1772638326415.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>FRIDAY</h1><p>The threat on Friday comes from a cold front sliding south. That should mean more numerous thunderstorms. It also means something else: wind shear. That will help organize more of those storms as they come together Friday afternoon.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-04 143610-1772660246411.png">That's the separator between Thursday and Friday, wind dynamics. Severe Threat Increases Late this Week

Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

However, the freezing line was lifted; it's not completely gone. With some freezing temps overnight, ice buildup will remain possible, along with some snowfall across northern New England.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/norhteast t-1772677454322.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p></p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-04 174143-1772671313446.png"></p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-04 174208-1772671340156.png"></p><p>Across most of the Northeast, however, heavy rainfall is expected with our next system. Warmer temperatures will favor some of these high rainfall totals by the end of the work week. The heaviest totals we're seeing will likely reside across the Ohio Valley and the Mid-Atlantic region.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-04 174250-1772671382238.png"></p><p>It has been a snowy and cold winter across the Northeast. Northeast: Snow & Ice Winds Down, Heavy Rain Ahead

<p>Now that we've entered Meteorological Spring, many out west have been feeling more like Summer with temperatures soaring into the 90's. Numerous records have fallen coming out of the weekend and into the workweek from the southwest to the south central U.S. More records look to continue falling this week.</p><p>An upper-level ridge that won't leave us alone is sliding to the east this week. That will keep the tranquil weather nearby and push temperatures into record territory.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/ahs-1772720227689.png"></p><p>Temperatures have already entered record territory in many locations and will continue to spill east as we head into the rest of the week. Over 100 locations could potentially break or tie records through the weekend.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/RAV 1-1772720369879.png">Temperatures across the southern plains will remain in the 80s.Dallas is normally 65°, but will see highs in the 80s! Little Rock can see a high of 83° on Friday.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-04 122422-1772652271180.png">It's already warm in the southeast, with highs soaring into the upper 70's and low 80's. We'll creep closer to record territory as the week progresses, with numerous highs falling from Thursday through Saturday. Record Heat Rolls East This Week

<p>Storms rumbled through the Plains early Wednesday. The strongest storms kicked out hailstones 1-2 inches in diameter on Wednesday morning! That will be an appetizer for the severe threat unfolding for the rest of the week! </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-04 073957-1772635438778.png"></p><h1>Outlooks</h1><p>The Storm Prediction Center has issued a SLIGHT risk for severe storms overnight with a threat for some tornadoes. This risk extends from Texas to the Ozarks to the Ohio River Valley. The threat of isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms with large hail, damaging winds, and a tornado or two is possible.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-04 143331-1772660037853.png">Through tonight, the tornado threat is a little higher in northern Arkansas and into Missouri through the Ozarks.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-04 143344-1772660061804.png"></p><h1>Timing</h1><p>Overnight, we still see storms around. Please have multiple ways to get alerts, as all threats, including tornadoes. Severe Chances Ride Along Front Tonight

<p style="margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;"><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; color: #454545;">Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

<p>A blood moon graced the skies this morning! Hopefully the cloud cover cooperated where you were.<br><br>What is a blood moon? It's another name for a total lunar eclipse, a phenomenon that occurs when a full moon passes directly through a planet's shadow, changing the bright white reflection to a much darker shade of red. This time, the dark red shade, known as totality, will last about an hour, while the Moon's shadow will gradually increase and decrease for about 90 minutes before and after totality. This means the entire event will last about 4 hours.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/Screenshot 2026-02-25 121621-1772047002716.png"></p><p>This eclipse is known as a "total" lunar eclipse, named for when the entirety of the Moon gets covered by Earth's hard shadow, known as the umbra. It's different from a solar eclipse in that the Earth is between the Moon and Sun, as opposed to a solar eclipse when the Moon is between the Earth and Sun.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/Screenshot 2026-02-25 121627-1772047012922.png"></p><p>Unfortunately for folks on the East Coast, the amount of time to see totality will be cut short, lasting only about 20-30 minutes (depending on your longitude) as the moon sets. Full eclipse times are in the image at the top of the page.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/Screenshot 2026-02-25 121049-1772047025361.png"></p><p>For folks in Central, Mountain, or Pacific time zones, all of totality should be visible before the moon goes down. Lunar Eclipse Stuns Many Tuesday Morning

<p>This week brings some nice days to the southern plains and southwest, especially if you like the warmth. On Sunday, Chattanooga, Tennessee, tied a record high, reaching 79°! California set multiple records on Sunday, including Indio, which reached 98°!</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/SCA-1772422124039.png">The above-average warmth continues for the Southwest for several more days because of the blocking high-pressure system. Just like the Southern Plains, some relief could be coming with a low-pressure system passing by.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-01 134712-1772398071527.png">The Southern Plains will see the record-warmth potential last into this weekend before a cold front arrives for some areas. However, the farther south you go, the higher chances you have of keeping the heat well into the start of the work week.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/web2-1772451264489.png"></p><p>The warmth is likely to lead to numerous records continuing to fall through Tuesday.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/web3-1772451285985.png"></p><p>Phoenix reached 90 degrees again on Saturday and 93 on Sunday and the 90s are likely through Monday afternoon.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-01 173103-1772411468693.png"></p><p>Make sure to watch WeatherNation for the latest updates on the record-warmth.</p>

Spring & Summer Like Temperatures for the Southwest

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

<p>The Warmth continues across the west.
