Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

During those months, steering winds turn southerly and escort in new moisture from the Gulf and Pacific.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot 2025-08-24 053958-1756035609554.png"><h1>Timing</h1>Daily rounds of t-storms with flash flood potential are likely through Thursday.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/tomer 4 corners futurecast-1756165354960.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Widespread thunderstorms are expected this week as moisture continues to funnel in. The best time for storms will be with diurnal heating during our afternoons, but because so much moisture is in place, some morning and overnight storms will be possible.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/08-25 rsw mon-1756157595919.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>The WPC has issued Excessive Rainfall Outlooks (flood outlooks) through this week. Most areas will be under the level one risk, marginal, for isolated flash flooding, but a level 2 risk (slight) is being highlighted for some areas as well.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot 2025-08-25 153325-1756157690345.png">Some of these storms could be a little gusty and dusty, with damaging winds potentially affecting areas of Arizona. The Storm Prediction Center is monitoring areas including Phoenix and Tucson for that threat today.

A strong Summer cold front knifed its way through the Northern Tier and Plains. Upper-level high pressure will stay dominant over the western U.S., leading to dangerous heat and dry conditions. Heat alerts have come to an end for the southwest, but there are still some in the northwestern U.S.Extreme Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories remain in place across the Northwest, as temperatures are expected to run above average. Seattle has a forecast high of 88° on Tuesday, and normally averages 77°. About two-thirds of all Atlantic hurricane activity typically occurs between August 20th and October 10th. We're heading through the heart of Atlantic hurricane season, and we certainly have activity that indicates an uptick in energy. Currently, we are monitoring three areas of interest!<h1>Fernand</h1>A tropical wave developed into a Tropical Storm with the National Hurricane Center's latest outlook. The storm has been given the name Fernand, pronounced FAIR-NAHN. The good news for the East Coast is that this storm's path is well east of the US mainland and it will weaken.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot 2025-08-25 152202-1756156930341.png"><h1>Eastern Pacific</h1>Tropical Storm Juliette has formed in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. This system will strengthen a bit over the next few days, but remain well offshore.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot 2025-08-25 152237-1756156969913.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot 2025-08-25 152229-1756156976113.png">Two other areas of interest are being monitored in the Pacific. The first area of interest is being highlighted in the same spot Juliette formed. Right now, the National Hurricane Center is giving it a low chance of development over the next few days. The second is well south of the Hawaiian Islands, with gradual development possible as it moves west into the central Pacific.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot 2025-08-25 152138-1756156981298.png"><h1>Next Few Weeks</h1>The tropics in the Atlantic have a chance to stay active through the first week of September. While a large-scale Kelvin Wave isn't likely to spur activity like it has over the last two weeks, additional tropical waves could develop in the Atlantic and the Gulf/Western Caribbean. Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

A strong cold front is pushing across the Front Range and Midwest. It is dropping temperatures and bringing strong storms and heavy rainfall. Front Brings Storms to the Midwest and Front Range

Another day and another record rainfall in South Carolina. This time it was for downtown Charleston! The heavy rain risk isn't going away, as there will be more heavy rain chances on Sunday for some of the same areas.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot 2025-08-24 050823-1756033711271.jpg">Storms will stick around Sunday, with rainfall rates of 2–3 inches per hour possible in heavier, slower-moving systems. Some of the Outer Banks could pick up enough rain to create flooding thanks to a little enhancement from the low spinning off of the coast. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot 2025-08-24 050847-1756033738504.jpg">Showers and thunderstorms will stick around through the rest of the weekend, starting relatively early each morning. The front will slowly move farther south and bring heavy rainfall across Central Florida.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/08/secoldfront-1756003938444.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>The beaches of the Atlantic Coast could see an additional 1-2 inches, with isolated higher amounts possible.
