Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

The Eastern Pacific Basin has been active over the past week, with Hurricane Lorena dissipating near Baja but still causing flooding issues. Kiko has reached category 4 status three times, but is expected to continue weakening as it approaches the Hawaiian Islands.<h1>KIKO</h1>Hurricane Kiko continues to churn west as an impressive major hurricane, and with the latest update, Kiko has started to weaken but is still an impressive category 3 storm.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-07 045036-1757242289008.png">The forecast cone brings Kiko close to the Hawaiian Islands. Residents should monitor this forecast closely over the next day or two, making preparations as necessary over the next several days. Expect rainfall as it passes, but the larger impacts will be high surf expected to reach the Hawaiian Islands starting today. These swells could cause life-threatening surf and rip currents.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-07 045059-1757242294599.png">While Kiko is relatively small at the moment, it could grow in size as it weakens, which is common for tropical systems. This means tropical storm-force winds will have an outside chance to impact the islands, despite the center of the storm likely passing to the north.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-07 045251-1757242377427.png">Big swells and strong currents are the most likely impacts to Hawaii from Kiko. Dangerous currents could begin on Sunday and last through much of the week as Kiko's growing wind field continues to generate large waves.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/2025-09-07 04-53-08-1757242415364.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Another potential area of development over the open waters has a low chance of developing in the next seven days. A center of low pressure has formed, but any development in the short or mid-range is not expected.

Hurricane Kiko Tracking Toward Hawaii

UPDATE: A tropical disturbance in the eastern Atlantic now has a 0% chance of becoming a tropical depression within the next seven days. This is a significant drop from Friday, when the wave had a high chance to develop, up to 90%! No activity in the Atlantic is expected in the short term, but conditions through the rest of the month should allow for additional tropical development.The next tropical systems in the Atlantic could form through the middle and end of September, which is typically the peak of hurricane season. The Climate Prediction Center shows several regions in the next few weeks with low to moderate confidence in development.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-06 063404-1757162059921.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-06 063411-1757162066655.png">Do not let your guard down. September is historically the peak of hurricane season, and ocean conditions remain favorable for additional development. However, the NHC urges residents along the Atlantic basin to monitor updates closely.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-04 053605-1756985781092.png">As always, preparedness is key. Whether or not this particular system develops into a named storm, it serves as a reminder that the Atlantic remains active and that the window for tropical threats is far from closed. Tropical Wave Dissipates, Atlantic Quiet for the Short Term

Patrick Crawford has always been a huge weather buff! He grew up in Plano, Texas, and it was there that he experienced what Mother Nature was capable of doing. He would always turn on the television to see what local meteorologists were saying about the weather. That's when he realized he wanted to be a meteorologist.

Patrick graduated from Northern Illinois University (’04) with a degree in Meteorology and a double minor in Mathematics and Geography. Broadcast Meteorology has been great to him and he has been able to work in television markets all across the country. Some of his stops have included New Orleans, Green Bay and even Yuma, Arizona. He is so excited to be part of the WeatherNation team.

He has been awarded the prestigious CBM (Certified Broadcast Meteorologist) weather seal from the American Meteorological Society.

The severe weather risk has been removed from the forecast for the Northeastern U.S.. Areas of the Northeast did see large hail and damaging winds. The heavy rain threat will continue through Sunday across the Northeast and that means a risk for some flash flooding.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/PIC 2-1757210229660.jpg"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/PIC 4-1757210239810.jpg">We currently don't have a severe weather outlook for Sunday, but areas along the coast of North Carolina and Massachusetts (Cape and the Islands) could see a few severe storms early Sunday.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/FORECAST-1757204091287.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Rainfall totals could surpass 2-4 inches in a few areas, posing the threat for localized flooding. A marginal to slight risk for flooding has been issued by the Weather Prediction Center (WPC).<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/PIC 2-1757204126820.jpg">WeatherNation will have more updates online and on-air.

While we're only a few days removed from the month of August, it's been feeling more like winter for some! Residents in locations across North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado woke up to temperatures in the mid-20s earlier Saturday morning (see above)!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-06 165014-1757199398808.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/pic6-1757211078720.png">While the cooler airmass remains in place, temperatures are expected to drop quickly again into the early morning hours of Sunday. New alerts have been issued, with Frost Advisories covering much of the Dakotas, and a few counties in northern Minnesota under a Freeze Warning.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-06 165053-1757199830824.png">While temperatures have bottomed out under clear skies at night, sunshine during the day has been modifying the cold airmass. As it is still early September, the sun angle remains quite high in the sky! Directly behind the front, however, is a different story, with temperatures nearly 20° cooler on Saturday afternoon compared to 24 hours prior.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-06 165111-1757199960799.png">For the latter half of the weekend, the cold front will bring temperatures down across the Northeast. Where the front has not cleared, temperatures will push back into the 90s.

Another Cold Night Ahead in the Northern Plains

Lorena's remnant low slowed down, and nearly stalled, over the central Baja Peninsula Friday. Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. NORTHERN PLAINS - A series of cold fronts will move through the Midwest to the northeast over the next several days. First, a cold front that moved down from Canada on Tuesday will continue to bring strong storms, gusty winds, and cooler temperatures across the Northern tier of the country through the end of the week. Then, this weekend, a second cold front arrives from Canada to reinforce the cooler air.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/09-03 RNC STORMS-1756955636998.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h2>Temperatures</h2>Behind the front, temperatures will drop significantly as winds shift to the north.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-02 160633-1756850797164.png">For many areas, this will be the coolest air since spring, even cooler than the most recent bout of chilly temperatures. Morning lows are expected to dip into the 40s on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with Friday likely to be the coldest morning across the Northern Plains.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-02 121321-1756836809221.png">Long-range trends keep the eastern U.S. with high confidence in temperatures being below average. PHILADELPHIA - As the Philadelphia Eagles celebrate their championship on Thursday, Mother Nature will try to provide the fireworks. A powerful cold front is bringing record cold temperatures to those in the Midwest and Great Lakes will pivot eastward on Thursday. That could mean trouble for some outdoor activities. According to some local reports, the Eagles won't even be on the field for the ceremony. But with plenty of fans in the stands, we thought we'd take a look at the forecast for the afternoon.<h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-03 111753-1756919960734.png">LIGHT THE FUSE</h1>As our cold front drops in, it will fire up a line of storms, that will be capable of producing gusty winds along the leading edge. Unfortunately for any ceremony-goers, it looks like the 5-8 PM ET window might be the easiest one for the storms to fit into. It doesn't have a ton of juice to work with, but there will be just enough combined with the strength of the front to keep the severe potential on the table.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-03 111657-1756920009454.png">The Storm Prediction Center is already monitoring the area for the threat of severe storms, with a wide area capable of picking up damaging winds. Eagles Ring Ceremony Could Get Wet

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

Upper-level high pressure will stay dominant over the western U.S., leading to dangerous heat and dry conditions (and wildfire risk). Heat alerts have come to an end for the southwest, but there are still some in the northwestern U.S.Extreme Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories remain in place across the Northwest, as temperatures are expected to run above average. Seattle has a forecast high of 88° on Tuesday, and normally averages 77°.
