Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. <p>As we head through the rest of the work week, an upper-low will move across the Intermountain West and into the Central Plains, increasing chances for severe thunderstorms and heavy rain. The upper-level ridge responsible for <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/spring-like-temperatures-return-to-the-southwest"><strong>record heat</strong></a> across the Southwest will begin to break down, allowing the upper-level low, currently moving through the Rockies, to move east, bringing strong jet stream winds overhead.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/web2-1772451788235.png"></p><h2>Tuesday to Wednesday</h2><p>Tonight, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a <strong>MARGINAL</strong> (level 1 out of 5) risk for severe storms. The main threats this evening and into the overnight will be isolated severe hail across portions of the southern and central Plains and into Missouri and Illinois.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-03 115845-1772564915392.png"></p><p>Wednesday the SPC has issued a <strong>SLIGHT</strong> (level 2 out of 5) risk for severe storms for the threat of isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms from north Texas through Illinois with the primary threats of large hail and isolated wind damage.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-03 115841-1772564923505.png"></p><p>Timing out these storms, models have a few isolated storm cells popping up tonight along a frontal zone. A dryline will also help to initiate storms. Individual, or discrete, storms will likely cluster together quickly into the overnight and through Wednesday. Throughout the day new development along the boundary is likely as well.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/0303 hrrr-1772564947235.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p></p><h2>Thursday - Friday</h2><p>Our next trough swings in later this week and targets some of the same areas for severe weather. On Thursday, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a <strong>SLIGHT</strong> (level 2 out of 5) risk for severe weather across portions of the Plains. Large hail, severe winds, and a tornado or two will all be possible.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-03 121055-1772565630910.png"></p><p>The Storm Prediction Center has issued an additional outlook for Friday. By Day 4, the outlooks are considered to be probabilistic, so they only show 15% or 30% probabilities instead of marginal to high categories. On Friday, the SPC issued a 30% probability for portions of the central Plains. Winds look extremely strong, lifting and buoyancy looks high, and supercells look to be very favorable.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-03 121429-1772565626333.png">Timing out these storms later this week, scattered to severe thunderstorms are expected to begin Thursday afternoon and evening and continue through the overnight. Initially, the dryline will help to pop some supercells in west Texas. These storms are expected to move east into the Plains later in the afternoon and evening. By nightfall, the low-level jet will strengthen, keeping the risk for severe storms going through the overnight period and into Friday.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/0303 bams3k thu to wkd-1772565763295.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>In addition, as deep moisture continues to move north, heavy rain will become a hazard. Severe Thunderstorms Possible The Rest of the Week

Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

<p>As we turn the page from an active winter with plenty of snow, this week will involve spring-like warmth moving into the Northeast. A couple of rounds of snow and heavy rain are likely, along with the potential for freezing rain and ice. Some portions of the Northeast have already seen 0.20" of ice in the last 24 hours. </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot20260303082318png-1772551494124.png"></p><p>There are winter alerts in effect through Wednesday.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-03 111629-1772561885328.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-03 111656-1772561889834.png">We are currently following a system that will bring in light snow for parts of Interstate-95 and Mid Atlantic region. As southerly winds move into the system, a changeover from snow to rain will be likely. However, we could see a few inches before the precipitation changes over. This setup also creates an icing threat for parts of the Appalachians, and even portions of the northeast, so we will keep an eye out for that too!</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/03-03_rne bams-1772561937263.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>The next shortwave coming out of the Plains has a lot of warm moist air being drawn up from the Gulf. As a result, the midweek system will create heavy rain chances across the Ohio Valley and it will be an all rain event for the Northeast as temperatures climb into the 50s and 60s. A few inches of rain will be possible with the heavier totals across the Ohio River region for cities like Louisville, Columbus, and Indy.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-03 111922-1772561968979.png">It has been a snowy and cold winter across the Northeast. Northeast: Snow & Ice Winds Down, Heavy Rain Ahead

<p>Now that we've entered Meteorological Spring, many out west have been feeling more like Summer with temperatures soaring into the 90's. Numerous records have fallen coming out of the weekend and into the workweek from the southwest to the south central U.S. More records look to continue falling this week.</p><p>An upper-level ridge that won't leave us alone is sliding to the east this week. That will keep the tranquil weather nearby and push temperatures into record territory.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-02 090044-1772467252694.jpg">Temperatures have already entered record territory in many locations and will continue to spill east as we head into the rest of the week ahead. Over 100 locations could potentially break or tie records into the weekend.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-03 081924-1772551175650.png">Temperatures across the southern plains will remain in the 80s.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-03 112409-1772562260970.png">It's already warm in the southeast, with highs soaring into the upper 70's and low 80's. We'll creep closer to record territory as the week progresses, with numerous highs falling from Thursday through Saturday. Severe Weather Awareness Week 2026

<p style="margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;"><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; color: #454545;">Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

<p>A blood moon graced the skies this morning! Hopefully the cloud cover cooperated where you were.<br><br>What is a blood moon? It's another name for a total lunar eclipse, a phenomenon that occurs when a full moon passes directly through a planet's shadow, changing the bright white reflection to a much darker shade of red. This time, the dark red shade, known as totality, will last about an hour, while the Moon's shadow will gradually increase and decrease for about 90 minutes before and after totality. This means the entire event will last about 4 hours.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/Screenshot 2026-02-25 121621-1772047002716.png"></p><p>This eclipse is known as a "total" lunar eclipse, named for when the entirety of the Moon gets covered by Earth's hard shadow, known as the umbra. It's different from a solar eclipse in that the Earth is between the Moon and Sun, as opposed to a solar eclipse when the Moon is between the Earth and Sun.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/Screenshot 2026-02-25 121627-1772047012922.png"></p><p>Unfortunately for folks on the East Coast, the amount of time to see totality will be cut short, lasting only about 20-30 minutes (depending on your longitude) as the moon sets. Full eclipse times are in the image at the top of the page.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/Screenshot 2026-02-25 121049-1772047025361.png"></p><p>For folks in Central, Mountain, or Pacific time zones, all of totality should be visible before the moon goes down. Lunar Eclipse Stuns Many Tuesday Morning

<p>This week brings some nice days to the southern plains and southwest, especially if you like the warmth. On Sunday, Chattanooga, Tennessee, tied a record high, reaching 79°! California set multiple records on Sunday, including Indio, which reached 98°!</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/SCA-1772422124039.png">The above-average warmth continues for the Southwest for several more days because of the blocking high-pressure system. Just like the Southern Plains, some relief could be coming with a low-pressure system passing by.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot 2026-03-01 134712-1772398071527.png">The Southern Plains will see the record-warmth potential last into this weekend before a cold front arrives for some areas. The state of Alabama is prone to seeing various types of weather from severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and winter weather. For college, Jesse attended the University of South Alabama where he received his degree in Broadcast Meteorology along with minors in Math and Geography. <p>A busy day on Thursday resulted in several reports of large hail, gusty winds, and a possible tornado touchdown in Trussville, AL. Our Field Meteorologist Brett Adair was on the scene of wind and hail damage in Pinson, outside of Birmingham, AL. The Severe Storm Risk Continues Across the Southeast

Brace yourselves, Texas, the risk of severe weather is in the forecast Wednesday.  Showers and thunderstorms will develop through the afternoon and evening hours.  Strong storms are possible in parts of surrounding states too (Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana).  However, the Storm Prediction Center has highlighted an Enhanced Risk area for severe thunderstorms solely in the Lone Star State.
