Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

A ridge of high pressure that brought record warmth to the West is sliding eastward. This means the heat will shift east as well, and we could see multiple records broken from Thursday through Sunday! The temperatures will climb this week as the ridge dominates! Several records fell across parts of the Southern Plains and Northern Rockies on Thursday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/1-1763091377295.png"><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/2025-11-13 03-32-43-1763029980858.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>On Friday, multiple cities will make a run for the records, including Oklahoma City and Tulsa.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1763030014931.png"><h1>Plains &amp; Midwest</h1>Temperatures will run 10°- 20°+ above average for a lot of folks. Kansas City normally averages 55° for this time of year, and will see highs in the low 70s on Friday and Saturday. St. Louis normally averages 57° and will see 78° on Saturday, running over 20 degrees above average!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/1-1763091470381.png"><h1>South Central</h1>Texas is no stranger to heat, and will run well-above average into the weekend. Karissa grew up loving math and science, but really fell in love with Meteorology while attending the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. After two summers of storm chasing in the central plains, she knew that it was the career path for her. After two years at COD, she transferred to Metropolitan State University of Denver. Karissa graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology. Her high school and college speech and meteorology professors were extremely supportive and pushed her to succeed. Before joining the WeatherNation team, she previously worked as the Morning Meteorologist at KCAU-TV in Sioux City, Iowa and at WMBD-TV in Peoria, IL. She recently was part of a National Edward R. Murrow award winning team for breaking news for their coverage of the EF-4 tornado in Washington, Illinois. In her free time, Karissa enjoys cooking and trying new foods. She is a self proclaimed 'TV Junkie' who can get into just about any show. She is a die hard Chicago sports fan who loves attending professional sporting events.

<h1>SET-UP</h1>A digging mid to upper-level trough will bring in widespread vertical lift to the western U.S. As the trough helps draw in tropical moisture, it will meet a cool low-pressure system at the surface. As the cold front moves inland tonight, storms will become more widespread, especially through Oregon and northern California. Dropping overnight temperatures will ensure snowfall in the mountainous regions, which will carry into Thursday. As the front pushes south, Southern California will see a good chance of rain by Thursday evening. We may even see some snow at the highest elevation peaks in SoCal. As the surface low wraps up within itself, scattered showers and mountain snow will continue across the Pacific Northwest also.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/New Baron Video 3-1763090686069.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>CALIFORNIA IMPACTS</h1>Winter alerts have already been issued for the Sierra Nevada, beginning tonight and lasting through the end of the day on Thursday. One to two feet of snow is expected at and above pass level, and 4-12" is possible above 5000 feet.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web3-1763031752667.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1763031782461.png">Rainfall totals will be heaviest along the northern California coastline, where the brunt of the moisture is focused from the atmospheric river. We will have to watch out for totals in southern California to reach 1-2" at lower elevations and 2-4" in the mountains and hills. Flood Watches have been issued for portions of the foothills of the Sierra and most of Southern California into the weekend. Low pressure will track through the Northeast this weekend, bringing back more rain, snow, and the potential for ice. Precipitation starts to move in on Saturday evening and will remain into Sunday. All precipitation types will be possible with this wave. It begs the question...Why are we seeing these geomagnetic storms that are far more reaching than normal?The reason? The sun is undergoing a dramatic magnetic shift. Every 11 years, its poles reverse, creating intense magnetic twists and disturbances that fuel these vivid light shows.Aurora lovers, rejoice! The Space Weather Prediction Center correctly said Tuesday, November 11th, that aurora chances could be seen as far south as Alabama and California. Space weather forecasters predict more dazzling displays AGAIN Wednesday night into Thursday.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1988725181372629334" src="https://x.com/NWSSWPC/status/1988725181372629334"></div>ANOTHER coronal mass ejection (CME) is expected to arrive at and impact the Earth with the potential for elevated geomagnetic response, AKA: more auroras. The season’s first Arctic blast surged into the South, arriving nearly three weeks ahead of meteorological winter, which begins December 1. Driven by a deep upper-level trough, this system has funneled frigid Canadian air all the way down to Texas. Multiple record lows were set over the past few days across the south and southeast. The lake effect snow season has arrived, with heavy snow expected now through Tuesday. Places in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan have already received a foot of snow! <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-10 054716-1762778844004.jpg"> Winter weather alerts remain in place all across the shores of the Great Lakes through Tuesday. An additional 6-12" in some locations, with heavy snowfall rates likely reducing visibility at times, will make travel very difficult.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-11 073236-1762871565435.jpg"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-11 105614-1762883788305.png"><h1>How Lake Effect Works</h1>Water has a much higher heat capacity than air, meaning it takes more time to warm up and cool down. This leads to "mild" water temperatures in the Great Lakes while the air overhead can be much cooler. As the cold, dry air moves over these areas, it's able to evaporate moisture from the lakes until it condenses into clouds and precipitation before falling out over land. Typically, we need at least a 13° F difference between the lake water and the air aloft (around 1500 m, or 4500-5000 ft) for lake effect snow to form.<h1>Forecast</h1>With winds coming over the Great Lakes, we can still anticipate lake effect snowfall to continue. Next, a quick-moving clipper will move through to bring a few wintry bands to the snowbelt.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/11-11 rne-1762883738383.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Take this snow event as an example for the next one, make sure your vehicle is ready for winter travel with some good tread on your tires and a winter driving kit.
