It has been a very warm winter for cities in the Central U.S., which has led to many cities recording their warmest winters EVER. This includes Chicago, Milwaukee, and Des Moines along with the greater Minneapolis area. Now that we are into meteorological Spring, the trend continues, with record warmth ahead this week too. Many records were broken today including Minneapolis, MN, and Sioux City, IA. There is the potential for more records again on Tuesday as the warmth continues to dominate.
For Tuesday we will once again see temps over 20° above average. Temps will dig into the 50s, 60s and 70s! This is quite warm for March and makes it feel more like May as many school districts are on Spring Break this week.
As a cold front pushes through we will see a cooling trend, knocking our temperatures back about 10-15° by Thursday. Even though the temps will become cooler by the end of the week, they will remain above average.
A cold front arriving on Wednesday and Thursday will knock temperatures back and help to produce severe weather potential along with rain and snow.
