The heat dome that affected the southwest for a while has moved over to the plains. Low pressure has shifted over the west, and the flow around the high pressure out east is pulling monsoonal moisture into the Four Corners, leading to showers and thunderstorms. Thursday brought some monsoon storms with wind gusts over 72 mph. More storms are expected on Friday and into the weekend.
The best chance for showers and storms will come during the afternoon and evening hours. It is possible for a few overnight storms in the Desert Southwest. The main threats from the storms will be some gusty winds and heavy rainfall.
Over the next seven days, we are forecasting approximately one to two inches of rain in some locations. Some isolated flooding could be possible, especially if heavy rain falls over burn scar areas.
