The next storm system is moving onshore from the Pacific, bringing heavy rainfall and higher-elevation snowfall to California. Rainfall totals have already exceeded over five inches of rain in some isolated spots. There is a moderate risk (level 3 out of 4) for the chance to see excessive rainfall over Southern California on Thursday. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/1-1739505709332.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/2-1739505739836.png">Flash Flood Watches have been issued, as the heavy rainfall could lead to mudslides over areas that saw fires a few weeks ago in Southern California. Urban areas and streams&nbsp;will also be most vulnerable. &nbsp;<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-13 162100-1739488864919.png">This will be dangerous for portions of Southern California, especially over recent burn scars. The most recent burn-scarred areas include the Palisades fire and the Eaton fire. Both areas are expecting to get a few inches of rainfall.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/1-1739505804591.png"> Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for the mountains. Snowfall totals up to 15" will be possible in the Sierra between 4500-6000' and 2-5' above 6000’ through Friday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-13 162253-1739488977576.png">Further up to the north in the Coastal Range and Shasta County, 3-8" will be possible above 2000’, and 1-2' above 3500’ during the same time frame.&nbsp;Wind gusts will aid in blowing snowfall and hazardous travel. Wind gusts up to 45 to 60 mph will be possible in higher elevations leading to whiteout conditions. &nbsp;&nbsp;<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-13 162314-1739488998278.png">As a frontal boundary moves inland rain and snow will continue to increase throughout California through tonight and into Friday.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Baron 2-1739505885818.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Stay tuned to WeatherNation for the latest details. Heavy Rainfall & Potential Mudslides Return to California

That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

A highly amplified jet stream is set to move across the eastern half of the U.S. this weekend, increasing severe weather potential across the South from Saturday into Sunday. A level 3 out of 5 (enhanced) severe weather outlook has been issued by the Storm Prediction Center for Saturday, including an outlook for significant severe weather. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-13 103344-1739468148411.png">As the strong low from California moves east, lift and wind shear will increase across the Lower Mississippi Valley and the Deep South. As moisture and warmth increase in deep southerly flow from the Gulf, factors will be elevated for numerous severe storms by Saturday afternoon.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-13 103423-1739468159602.png">With ingredients coming together, significant severe weather looks possible on Saturday from Louisiana into Alabama. These outlooks are issued to indicate the chance for strong tornadoes, damaging straight-line wind gusts, or hail larger than golf balls. The risks will become defined when the outlook is re-issued on Friday.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/2025-02-13 10-34-47-1739468190925.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Timing will change - so check back in to get an idea of when storms will be strongest near you. Storms are mostly likely to reach severe weather criteria by midday or just after, with storms persisting overnight into Sunday. Strong storms look likely Sunday morning into the afternoon as the front races toward the coast. We will include this outlook when it is issued by the SPC.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-13 161715-1739488641072.png">Heavy rainfall looks to pose another significant threat from Saturday into Sunday. Rain totals could surpass 5-6 inches in some areas, with rainfall rates over 2 inches per hour. A moderate risk (level 3 out of 4) for flash flooding has been issued across the Mid-South and Appalachians for Saturday into Sunday morning. It has been extremely active across the Northeast this week. Last Tuesday, snowfall rates of 2"/hour were reported across the Ohio Valley &amp; Mid-Atlantic. There were thick coats of ice across Virginia on Wednesday, as ice accretions over an inch were recorded, and snowfall reached as high as 14". <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-13 065320-1739454837587.png">Roads will still be dangerous as this system pushes out of our area and the winter precipitation wraps up...for now...<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1889509742638190779" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1889509742638190779"></div>Before the next round of snow arrives, Lake Effect Snow Warnings and Winer Weather Advisories are in place for parts of the lakeshores of Erie and Ontario. Snowfall totals could end up around a foot!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/1-1739506204733.png">On the heels of the Mid-Atlantic system is a second weather system that will bring widespread impacts to the Great Lakes and Northeast. Northeast Braces for Second Storm This Week

A strong upper low coming out of California will move across the Rockies over the next few days. In Colorado, the city of Denver will receive light snow accumulation, while the mountains could see 1-3 feet of total accumulation.A second storm system is possible Sunday into Monday.Below is the jet stream forecast for Friday, the 14th.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-13 062833-1739453319151.png"><h1>Forecast Timing:</h1>As the low from California moves across the interior, heavy rain and snow can be expected. The initial burst of precipitation along the front will likely bring in the heaviest snow and rainfall rates for most areas, with scattered snow continuing behind the front through the weekend.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Baron 2-1739506452016.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>Forecast Accumulation Through Saturday Morning, 2/15:</h1>The Wasatch Mountains of Utah can expect 1-3 feet of accumulation through Saturday. The higher-end totals stay in the Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons. A few locations in Western and Southwest Colorado could push 2-3 feet.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/1-1739506528314.png">

Snowy Period Ahead for Colorado

At least two tornadoes were confirmed from Wednesday's storm system in the south, in addition to numerous reports of strong winds. One tornado caused damage in Clarke County, Alabama, in addition to a tornado that caused damage to multiple buildings around Columbia, MS.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1889849314505269558" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1889849314505269558"></div> Storms will continue to ride along a cold front through the day on Thursday, with severe storms possible until Thursday evening. Daytime heating will be a big factor for when severe storms are possible as energy is limited otherwise.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/2025-02-13 06-15-49-1739452577690.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Strong damaging winds and an isolated tornado will remain the primary threats for Thursday. Tornadoes Hit the South, Risk Lessens Thursday

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

A Colorado Low is working across the Plains bringing snow from Colorado to Michigan and even the Northeast. Snow will continue to move east overnight and winter alerts remain in place for additional snowfall through the overnight hours. Multiple inches of additional snow will be possible. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/pnvlldld-1739413700753.png">Snow will quickly taper off over the plains overnight. Heavy Snow Tapering for the Plains, Staying for the Great Lakes

<h1>NORTHERN PLAINS</h1>A blast of arctic air remains in portions of the northern plains. Extreme cold alerts are in place through Thursday morning. Dangerous wind chills can occur with values as low as 50 below zero. In these conditions, frostbite can occur in as little as 10 minutes, so dress in layers if you have to be outside.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/wind chilsllsss-1739328216977.png">As this frigid air dominates the Northern plains, temps will remain below average and COLD! Temperatures will be below average across the board. Bismarck normally has an already cold average of 5° for this time of year, but will be waking up to extreme cold and temperatures below zero through Friday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-12 115124-1739386296155.jpg">The cold air remains in place over the next few days! The wind chills will again dig into the -20s, -30s, and -40s. Some spots can see wind chills up to -50° below zero! This weather is extremely dangerous, so layer up and use caution if you have to go outdoors.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/sssss-1739326923602.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>NORTHWEST</h1>A shot of dry arctic air will bring extremely cold temps across the Northwest. Extreme cold alerts are in place through Thursday morning. Northerly winds will create wind chills below zero.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/into thrusday-1739327034043.png">Forecast lows will be below average and cold! Seattle and Portland normally see temps in the upper 30s, and you will wake up to the low 20s. Medford will start Wednesday in the teens. One More Brutally Cold Morning on the High Plains

According the most recent information from the Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory, the Great Lakes have a total ice coverage of 45.4%.

At this same time during 2017, the Great Lakes had ice coverage of 8.7%. In 2016, the Great Lakes had ice coverage of 12.7%.

By lake, Lake Erie has the most ice coverage at this point, with most of the lake covered in ice.
