Strong winds and pockets of heavy snow have been producing near blizzard conditions in the Great Lakes. Winter weather alerts surround most of the Great Lakes, downstream from Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, Lake Michigan and Lake Superior. In New York, the heaviest, most persistent bands will produce 2 to 4 feet of snow along with gusts to 40 mph. For the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, more than 6" of snow is likely along with gusts to 30 mph. Blowing and drifting snow with white-out conditions may occur in the heaviest snow squalls.
