Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

A highly amplified jet stream is set to move into the eastern half of the U.S. this weekend, increasing severe weather potential across the South from Saturday into Sunday. A level 3 out of 5 (enhanced) severe weather outlook has been issued by the Storm Prediction Center for Saturday, including an outlook for significant severe weather. A HIGH Risk for flooding has also been added by the Weather Prediction Center. Scroll down for details on Saturday's likely flood threat for the Ohio Valley.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-13 103344-1739468148411.png">As the strong trough from California moves east, lift and wind shear will increase across the Lower Mississippi Valley and the Deep South. As moisture and warmth increase in deep southerly flow from the Gulf, factors will be elevated for numerous severe storms by Saturday afternoon.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-14 161303-1739574789404.png">Wind damage and tornadoes are the most likely hazards with this system, however, large hail is possible as well. The highest risk for a tornado stretches from eastern Texas into Alabama.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-14 161329-1739574814362.png">Significant tornadoes are possible for the area in red above, this means tornadoes could reach EF-2 strength or higher. EF-2 tornadoes pack winds over 110 mph, meaning the same wind speeds as a category 3 hurricane! Even well-built (brick and concrete) structures can suffer serious or catastrophic damage with these wind speeds and the debris carried within. Please review your tornado safety plan before storms develop.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/2025-02-14 06-24-39-1739539502602.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Timing will change - so check back in to get an idea of when storms will be strongest near you. Storms are mostly likely to reach severe weather criteria by midday or just after, with storms persisting overnight into Sunday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-14 161359-1739574843809.png">Strong storms look likely Sunday morning into the afternoon as the front races toward the coast.<h1>FLOODING</h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-14 135045-1739566549035.png">Heavy rainfall looks to pose another significant threat from Saturday into Sunday. A HIGH risk (level 4 out of 4) for flash flooding has been issued across the Mid-South and Ohio Valley states. Know where to go if a flash flood warning is issued (higher ground)!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-14 060857-1739538561172.png">Rain totals could surpass 5-6 inches in some areas, with rainfall rates over 2 inches per hour. In addition to flash flooding happening quickly, river and areal flooding is likely. Meteorologist Jesse Kelley is excited to join the talented staff at Weather Nation. Jesse spent most of his childhood in Birmingham, Alabama. The state of Alabama is prone to seeing various types of weather from severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and winter weather. For college, Jesse attended the University of South Alabama where he received his degree in Broadcast Meteorology along with minors in Math and Geography. From Alabama, Jesse started his broadcast television working three years at KAVU-TV in Victoria. Recently, he finished a stint in Shreveport, LA. The Northeast continues to remain active through the weekend. The same system threatening severe weather down to the south, will eventually lift to the north and bring moisture. There were thick coats of ice across Virginia on Wednesday, as ice accretions over an inch were recorded, and snowfall reached as high as 14". Counties in Virginia are still without power as the storm system threatens more ice across the region.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/1-1739591906527.png">On the heels of the Mid-Atlantic system is a second weather system that will bring widespread impacts to the Great Lakes and Northeast. This means a second round of rain, snow, and ice. Driving can be hazardous during this time so please use caution. While we've been watching some serious cold the last few days, especially across the northern Plains, a further shot of arctic air is expected. This next airmass could be even colder than the last one! <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-14 162103-1739575270501.png">As the well-advertised storm system moves across the central states this weekend, it will drag in colder air from northern latitudes. Some locations may even see a brief warmup before the bottom drops out. Also of note is how far south this airmass will advance. <video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/southcold-1739575520089.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Because of the intensity and southerly push of the cold, many locations are forecasted to see record lows through the heart of next week.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-14 162624-1739575605708.png">Record low temperatures are one thing but add in the wind, and you have a dangerous situation. Widespread below-zero windchills are expected through much of next week. A strong upper low coming out of California is moving across the Four Corners this evening. As the core of the low moves overhead, instability-driven showers will bring bursts of heavy snow at times, with thundersnow a possibility! General thunderstorms will also be possible in lower elevations.A second storm system is possible Sunday into Monday.Below is the current jet stream pattern:<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-13 062833-1739453319151.png"><h1>Forecast Timing:</h1>As the low moves across the interior, heavy rain and snow will remain possible through Saturday. Heavy rain caused several issues in California on Thursday, including closing roads to due flooding or mudslides. The Pacific Palisades fire burn scar saw several inches of rain, leading to mud and debris washing over US 1 near the coast, making the roadway impassable.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1890393054194127013" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1890393054194127013"></div> Snowfall has surpassed 2 feet in the mountains, and rain totals have been over 5-6 inches. Rain and snow chances are now winding down as the storm system pushed east. A few rain showers remain possible across the foothills of the Sierra and the Transverse Ranges in southern California. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-14 160634-1739574399460.png">Road conditions should quickly improve this evening in well-traveled areas, though snow removal on more isolated roads may remain difficult to impossible with several feet of snow that need to be cleared.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/dryingout-1739574524128.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Friday evening for the foothills of the southern Sierra. Storm Unloads Rain and Snow in California, Clearing for the Weekend

At least two tornadoes were confirmed from Wednesday's storm system in the south, in addition to numerous reports of strong winds. One tornado caused damage in Clarke County, Alabama, in addition to a tornado that caused damage to multiple buildings around Columbia, MS.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1889849314505269558" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1889849314505269558"></div> Storms will continue to ride along a cold front through the day on Thursday, with severe storms possible until Thursday evening. Daytime heating will be a big factor for when severe storms are possible as energy is limited otherwise.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/2025-02-13 06-15-49-1739452577690.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Strong damaging winds and an isolated tornado will remain the primary threats for Thursday. Tornadoes Hit the South, Risk Lessens Thursday

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

A Colorado Low is working across the Plains bringing snow from Colorado to Michigan and even the Northeast. Snow will continue to move east overnight and winter alerts remain in place for additional snowfall through the overnight hours. Multiple inches of additional snow will be possible. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/pnvlldld-1739413700753.png">Snow will quickly taper off over the plains overnight. Heavy Snow Tapering for the Plains, Staying for the Great Lakes

Strong winds and pockets of heavy snow have been producing near blizzard conditions in the Great Lakes. Winter weather alerts surround most of the Great Lakes, downstream from Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, Lake Michigan and Lake Superior.

In New York, the heaviest, most persistent bands will produce 2 to 4 feet of snow along with gusts to 40 mph. For the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, more than 6" of snow is likely along with gusts to 30 mph. Blowing and drifting snow with white-out conditions may occur in the heaviest snow squalls.
