'Tis the season for pumpkin spice everything. Well, maybe not quite yet, but the weather for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic certainly has some of us feeling the autumn vibes! Record low temperatures were broken in at least four cities for August 21, including Parkersburg in West Virginia which broke the daily record minimum temperature by six degrees! Another round of records fell Thursday morning, including in Washington DC!
For record-low temperatures to be established this time of the year, we only need the overnight minimum to drop into the 50's for most locations.
Enjoy one last cool morning, maybe an additional Friday in some cities, before a return of the heat is projected by this weekend. Overnight and daytime temperatures will begin to return to average for late-August, if not getting hotter than the norms this time of the year.
For instance, take Lexington in Kentucky which will swing from well-below-average to well-above-average now through the weekend. High temperatures will peak at 90-95 degrees by Sunday-Tuesday.
The temperature outlook to close out August will favor higher chances of above-average temperatures across much of the eastern United States. We can't write off summer just yet!
