SOUTHERN PLAINS - Overnight, there is a risk for flooding across portions of the Southern Plains and Ozarks. The Weather Prediction Center has issued a MODERATE (level 3 out of 4) risk for flash flooding in portions of Kansas and Missouri. Here, rain could accumulate over 4" in some neighborhoods.
Moisture will follow this path through the course of the next couple of days. Leading to a flooding risk for some, and for others, a severe potential. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a MARGINAL (level 1 out of 5) risk for severe weather for portions of the Red River Valley on Thursday, and for the South on Friday.
Storms will continue through Thursday across Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, and Texas before riding the warm front farther southeast into Friday. By Friday, the focus of thunderstorms will be closer to the Gulf Coast. During afternoon heating, we will have the highest chance for some of these storms turning severe.
Rainfall totals may lead to flash flooding for some, so flood alerts have been prompted for Kansas and Missouri. By Friday, the heaviest rain moves into Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.
