TRI-STATE AREA - Along with the threat of severe weather, the risk for flash flooding will continue to increase as slow-moving thunderstorms track over already saturated ground. Our in-house model indicates pockets of heavy rainfall that could exceed local flash flood guidance.

Because of this, Excessive Rainfall Outlooks remain in effect through tonight and Wednesday as rounds of thunderstorms move across the region. The Weather Prediction Center has placed portions of the Tri-State area, including New York City and Philadelphia, under a MODERATE (level 3 out of 4) risk for flash flooding.

Rainfall rates could reach 1 to 2 inches per hour, allowing several inches of rain to fall in a short amount of time. This could quickly overwhelm drainage systems and lead to dangerous flash flooding.

By Wednesday, the heaviest rainfall is expected to shift into New England. The Weather Prediction Center has also issued a MODERATE (level 3 out of 4) for flash flooding across portions of southern New England.

Rainfall totals through Thursday morning could exceed 5 inches across parts of western Massachusetts.
