Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

We're in for a round of clippers that'll rip through the north throughout this week. The first system will push through overnight, with a stronger system on its heels in the late work-week. Winter alerts remain in place for portions of the Northern Rockies through early Wednesday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-02 195235-1764730371467.png"><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/12-02 rnc-1764730450480.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>These totals will pile up across the northern plains, with the highest totals staying out west across the Northern Rockies.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-02 195434-1764730485210.png">Gusty winds will also play a role in the forecast. We can expect rounds of 25-30mph wind gusts. In some cases, maybe even higher than that! Watch out for those wind chill temperatures as they will drop as the winds come through with each clipper system.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/12-02 rnc bams3k wind-1764730544659.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Clipper systems are notorious for bringing quick-accumulating snowfall. But, even if snow totals are not significant, it doesn't mean dangerous road conditions won't be present. The Iowa Department of Transportation reports over 70% of weather-related crashes happen when there is 2" or LESS of snowfall. Northern U.S. Bracing for Multiple Clipper Systems this Week

DENVER, CO - The "Mile High" city finally recorded its first snowfall of the season two days after Thanksgiving as a strong trough moved through the northern Rockies. To count as measurable snow, it needs to accumulate to at least one-tenth of an inch, which the Denver airport doubled with that quick round of snowfall Saturday morning. The first snow date of November 29th makes it Denver's 2nd latest start to the snow season on record, with 2021 being the only year with a later first snow.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-29 082401-1764430054403.png">The snowfall also ended a long streak of snowless days, tied for the third-longest since record-keeping began.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-29 082406-1764430062849.png">Looking ahead, more snow is in store for the Denver area and the Palmer Divide, so Winter Alerts have been issued for 2-7" of snowfall.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-02 144835-1764712131425.png"><h1>Forecast Snow</h1>Snow begins tonight in Colorado. This is not exclusive to the higher elevations. In fact, the I-25 corridor, including the Denver metro, is set to have a messy Wednesday on the roads. Snow looks to stick around through the majority of the day on Wednesday, beginning early in the morning and lasting through the evening.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/HDHDHAAAA-1764730517748.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Use an abundance of caution when driving on the roads on Wednesday. Accumulations look 3"+.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-02 145114-1764712278535.png">The snow looks to already be widespread for the early parts of the morning on Wednesday across I-25.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/12021-1764712435534.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>This snowfall is more than welcome for some of the ski resorts in the Rockies. With not that many runs open, 12-15" in places like Steamboat Springs will make a difference. When it rains, it pours, right? Another outbreak of Arctic air will invade the northern tier of the country, just days after the most recent burst. As the door opens to the Arctic air, highs will plummet by Wednesday and into Thursday. Some areas will wake up below zero, like in the Twin Cities, on Thursday morning. When you factor in a light breeze, the wind chill will tumble into the -20 to -30 range!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-02 154637-1764715603147.png">The cold air will move to the east and bring temperatures significantly down for portions of the Northeast and Ohio Valley. Burlington, VT, will wake up to 5° on Friday morning.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-02 154704-1764715670888.png">This will likely be good enough to set new record lows late this week. Anywhere in a yellow dot could be looking at a new mark for the day.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-01 200237-1764644575090.png">When it gets this dangerously cold, even if it only lasts a day or two, bring the pets inside and remember to check on neighbors who might be susceptible to this. Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. We're hoping many Thanksgiving travelers have made it home, because this next system has brought rain, ice, and snowfall from the Mid-South to the Northeast. The combination of an upper-level low drawing in cold air and a surface low pulling in warm Gulf moisture will set some of us up for ice, others for rain, and many for heavy snowfall. So gear up for what you can expect in your neighborhood. Kansas and Nebraska already saw 2-4" of snowfall on Monday morning.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1995549367382753424" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1995549367382753424"></div><h2>Overall Set-Up</h2>Several components come into play when we talk about different types of wintry precipitation, and the temperature profile of the atmosphere is one of the most important. In this forecast, a strong upper-level low will draw in cold air aloft. At the surface, a low will pull in warm Gulf moisture. What happens between these layers determines whether precipitation falls as rain, freezing rain, sleet, a rain/snow mix, or snow.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-01 041042-1764587449453.png">Winter alerts are starting to trim back as the low pressure system pushes farther north and east, but many remain in effect through tonight.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-02 135101-1764708672189.png"><h2>Forecast Timing</h2>Based on current timing, snow will reach the Northeast through Tuesday night before the system exits offshore early Wednesday morning.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/2025-12-02 11-14-48-1764692115278.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Snowfall totals will vary depending on how cold the temperatures get throughout the event. The heaviest totals are expected to climb over 6 inches in the Northeast. Our forecast models are topping out closer to a foot for northern New England.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-02 135106-1764708709573.png">Ice accumulations generally range from a light glaze up to 0.1". When forecasts show totals approaching 0.25" or more, power outages become possible, and travel can become nearly impossible.

Gulf Low turns Coastal Low as Millions Brace for Plowable Snow

GULF COAST - Starting along the Gulf coast, a low-pressure system has emerged to bring soaking rain to our Gulf states through the overnight hours, to the Southeast Coast on Tuesday morning, and through the Atlantic Seaboard on Tuesday.This surface low will pull in tropical moisture and produce downpours across the South and Southeast, where temperatures will be warm enough to support rain and even a few thunderstorms. On the northern side of the system, ice and snow will become an issue across portions of the Mid-South, which you can read more about <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/gulf-low-bringing-heavy-precipitation-across-the-nation">here.</a> As mentioned above, rain has begun and will continue to saturate the south into Tuesday before paralleling the Atlantic Coast on Tuesday.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/12-01 rse to rne-1764644703384.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>The Storm Prediction Center has kept a MARGINAL risk for severe storms in the panhandle of Florida through Tuesday. The risk of a tornado or two will be there, along with damaging straight-line winds.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/web1-1764692285197.png">With deep Gulf moisture and embedded thunderstorms, heavy rain may oversaturate soils and lead to isolated flash flooding. However, this is largely beneficial rainfall as these areas have been struggling to get much rain recently. Major Winter Storm Disrupts Thanksgiving Travel

It is that time of year again—when millions of Americans hit the road or the skies to connect with friends and family. AAA is expecting a record number of travelers this year, surpassing the record-breaking 2024. Most travelers will be hitting the road vs flying.<div data-youtube-video=""><iframe width="640" height="480" allowfullscreen="false" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/o78PUXSJCJU" start="0"></iframe></div><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-17 104347-1763401813998.png">With millions hitting the roads, traffic will be hard to avoid, no matter where you are heading. However, there will be some better times to do your traveling. More strong to severe storms in the forecast today for parts of the Southern High Plains, Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles and parts of the Ohio Valley.  Today's severe weather chances are not as strong as they were yesterday, but nonetheless there still could be some dangerous storms today...especially for southeast Wyoming.
