Maximum sustained winds are estimated at 185 mph. It is beginning to pull away from Jamaica, but will still cause catastrophic impacts through Wednesday.</h3><h3>KEY MESSAGES:</h3><ul><li>Catastrophic and life-threatening flash flooding with numerous landslides for Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba</li><li>Conditions will improve for Jamaica, but it's recommended to stay inside until sunrise</li><li>Life-threatening storm surge and damaging waves for Cuba, the Southeast Bahamas, and Turks and Caicos</li><li>Hurricane preparations for the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos should be complete</li><li>Hurricane Watch issued for Bermuda, with conditions deteriorating on Thursday and Thursday night</li></ul><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1983196616640299223" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1983196616640299223"></div>Hurricane Melissa is re-strengthening as it approaches Cuba and is now back up to a Category 4. Melissa is expected to make landfall as a major hurricane and a dangerous Hurricane overnight in Cuba.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/cateforyyr 4 melliss-1761706974637.png">For the second day in a row, the powerful winds in Melissa caused such severe turbulence that the Hurricane Hunters were forced to leave the storm early.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1983192472764461336" src="https://x.com/53rdWRS/status/1983192472764461336"></div>Melissa is gradually picking up speed, but is still expected to cause catastrophic and life-threatening rainfall and mudslides in Jamaica and Cuba. T<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCPAT3+shtml/281753.shtml?">he latest from NHC forecasts</a> an additional 6-12 inches across Jamaica. For eastern Cuba, storm total rainfall of 10 to 20 inches, with local amounts to 25 inches, is expected into Wednesday. Over the Southeast Bahamas, rain is expected to develop later today and continue into Wednesday. Total rainfall of 5 to 10 inches is expected to result in areas of flash flooding. For the Turks and Caicos, rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-28 201817-1761704303487.png">The strength of Melissa's inner core will be impacted by the mountainous terrain of Jamaica, allowing for some weakening of the storm. However, it is still expected to hit eastern Cuba as a major hurricane and move through the Bahamas as a Category 2. Melissa made landfall near New Hope, Jamaica, on Tuesday morning and is one of the most powerful landfalls on record in the Atlantic. It is expected to make landfall again across southeastern Cuba overnight, and across the southeastern Bahamas on Wednesday, according to the NHC.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/mellsls-1761707201497.png">Hurricane warnings (in red) are in effect for Cuba, Jamaica, and the Bahamas, with a few tropical storm warnings (in orange) also in effect for portions of Haiti, Cuba, and the Turks and Caicos. All preparations to protect life and property in these areas should be rushed to completion. Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. An upper-level trough in the jet stream will be responsible for wet weather across the Plains, Midwest, and Ozarks through Wednesday morning. By Wednesday and into Thursday, this low will move through the Midsouth, into the Mid-Atlantic, and through the Northeast.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/10-28 rnc-1761703364967.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>The Weather Prediction Center has issued excessive rainfall outlooks starting on Wednesday. For portions of the Ohio River Valley, the excessive rainfall outlook is at a level one, MARGINAL, risk for flash flooding as the low moves through.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-28 200841-1761703735227.png">On Thursday, areas such as New York City will be included in the excessive rainfall outlook. This is also a MARGINAL (level 1 out of 4) risk for flash flooding.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-28 162956-1761690730125.png">Although this system moves through the Plains first, the heaviest totals are likely to occur as we start to tap into more Gulf and Atlantic moisture. LOS ANGELES - On Tuesday, temperatures in LA rose to record territory with a temperatures of 97 degrees, this beats out the old record for October 28th of 94 in 1931. What's causing this heat? The Santa Ana winds have returned. In addition to LA, Oxnard and Idyllwild also broke record highs on Tuesday afternoon.<h2><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-28 201221-1761703950133.png">Santa Ana Winds</h2>Whenever we have high pressure systems out in the west coast, the possibility of a Santa Ana winds setup becomes likely. The NWS in Los Angeles warns critical fire danger is likely on Wednesday because of low humidity, gusty winds and high heat.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1983224741319065651" src="https://x.com/NWSLosAngeles/status/1983224741319065651"></div><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/2025-10-28 04-47-51-1761648488737.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video> During this phenomenon, winds head westward due to high pressures' clockwise motion. These winds will pass over the dry, desert region of the southwest and head west through the mountain passages in Southern California. During their descent, the air compresses, causing their temperatures to rise.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/2025-10-28 04-53-29-1761648822406.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Web1-1761648886403.png">These winds are expected to bring well above-average temperatures for Southern California. In some spots, we can expect temperatures that are close to 15 degrees above average. This puts several cities in the high 80s in late October!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Web2-1761649017325.png">As a result, the National Weather Service has issued multiple heat advisories and red flag warnings across LA county and the surrounding areas.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Web1-1761649090884.png">This heat will also come with the potential to break some additional records. Santa Ana Setup Bringing the Heat into Southern California

Monday in Texas brought us record-breaking heat, and Tuesday, more records could fall. This high heat has been fuel for strong thunderstorms Tuesday in the south.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-28 163631-1761693242538.png">The Storm Prediction Center has dropped to a MARGINAL (level 1 out of 5) risk for severe weather across portions of east Texas and Louisiana through Wednesday morning. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-28 195859-1761703195664.png">So what's causing this active weather aside from hot temperatures? An upper-level trough has been swinging across the country from the north-central U.S. to the Ozarks and into the Middle Atlantic and northeast tomorrow and Thursday. This upper level trough has been accompanied by a surface front. With this trough moving through, the winds behind the system will bring in high winds.Wind alerts have been issued through Wednesday across the central U.S. Gusts up to 50 mph.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-28 164946-1761693480774.png">Here's a look at some of the forecasted wind gusts across the Plains and into the Gulf Coast.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/10-28 central winds-1761703289042.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>With strong winds, ongoing drought, and low relative humidity, there is critical fire danger across south Texas on Wednesday. WEST - A series of atmospheric rivers has been responsible for wet, windy, and snowy weather in the northwestern U.S. This moisture continues to push inland through Wednesday. Winter weather advisories are in place through Wednesday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-28 202120-1761704508982.png">Snowfall and rainfall totals will not be as heavy as they were this past weekend and into the early work week, but some areas should look for impacts as you head out on the roads.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-28 202117-1761704514070.png">Another potential atmospheric river could bring wet weather for our weekend, so be sure to join on WeatherNation for the latest. Slow-moving train thunderstorms produced extreme rainfall across portions of Central Florida on Sunday, triggering a flash-flood emergency in Lake County. The area recorded nearly 18" of rain in under 5 hours.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-27 155504-1761602110229.png"><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/2025-10-27 09-47-59-1761573805964.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>A few other spots along Florida's east coast experienced the heavy downpours, even breaking daily records.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Web 2-1761573435765.png">A stalled-out front was the culprit of the training showers. I will never forget the time it snowed in southwest Missouri on Halloween. Going from house to house for as long as we could stand it before piling back in the car because we were so cold. It doesn't snow that early in Springfield, or any other part of the country for that matter this early into Fall. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-27 111421-1761585271271.png">So let's see if Mother Nature is feeling in the mood to traumatize more youth this upcoming weekend. <h1>TROUBLE SPOTS</h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-27 111540-1761585429674.png">"Trouble" means a lot of different things for people on Halloween. Trouble, to us, is going to mean rain. Not much worse than spending all of that time and energy into a costume just to get rained on. While you might see some rain icons in the forecast in the northeast, there's a strong possibility we kick the rain out by the afternoon/evening, when it matters. We're more concerned with the Northwest like Seattle, where the rain might be both consistent and heavy at times. Coldest spot might be in the Upper Midwest, but any lingering cloud cover should help keep temps from freezing<h1>PICK OF THE NATION</h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/10/Screenshot 2025-10-27 111630-1761585733352.png">When. Do we ever. See 3 straight days of a rain-free forecast in SOUTH FLORIDA?? We have to go with Miami for that reason. Another blast of hot weather is ahead for the Upper Midwest and Plains for the rest of the week. Montana is already feeling the heat today, with the heat index climbing above the century point and the thermometer approaching 100. Heat Advisories have been issued for much of the rest of the week from Minnesota to Missouri.
