In the Desert Southwest, sweltering temperatures will continue through the middle of the week.  Highs will be around 5 to 10 degrees above normal. Excessive Heat Warnings have  been issued, including Las Vegas and Phoenix. https://twitter.com/NWSVegas/status/1164167770596085766 A strong ridge of high pressure will build over the Southwest through Thursday, leading to the excessive heat. Temperatures will be 5 to 10 degrees hotter for the middle of the week. In August, the desert is typically hot.  But above normal temperatures here can really increase the risk of heat-related illnesses or death.  Be sure to drink plenty of water, limit time outdoors, and check on loved ones and pets. By the end of the week, temperatures will return to near normal levels. That will be a nice break, especially in the month that has seen several days of highs above 110 degrees.
