Imagine a ski resort in the Northeast with over 350 inches of snow so far this season. Jay Peak, VT is advertising just that. Alta, UT is one of the snowiest ski areas in all of North America averaging about 550 inches (about 45 feet) per winter season. In fact, Alta logged 903 inches during its biggest season on record in 2022-2023.

Current conditions are great at Alta, but Jay Peak is having a banner season. Jay Peak averages about 350 inches per season.

Season Totals So Far:

  • Jay Peak, VT: 354"

  • Alta, UT: 348"

The prevailing (La Nina) storm track has favored Jay Peak with numerous Alberta Clippers and stronger areas of low pressure. Jay Peak can also benefit from Nor Easters with the right stormtrack. Jay Peak is located in the northern Green Mountains of Vermont, and it's geographic position is optimal for orographic lift with a north-south range orientation. Some of the best upslope flow might occur with a west/northwest wind.
