Compared to earlier this week, the severe weather threat from today (Friday) into this weekend is much more isolated. There is a marginal risk today in New England and Montana. In both areas, brief strong wind gusts above 60 mph are possible with storms in the afternoon and evening. The Upper Midwest may see a few severe thunderstorms this weekend, with the better chance on Saturday. That's when there is a slight risk for severe weather in parts of Minnesota and North Dakota. In the evening, thunderstorms may produce strong winds and large hail. The threat for severe weather in the Upper Midwest on Sunday slides to the south and east, with diminished risk compared to Saturday. For WeatherNation: Meteorologist Mace Michaels
