Mild Sunday Before Arctic Air Invades

The start of February has been a mild one across much of the United States. Thanks to a dominant ridge pattern, temperatures have been sitting 10 to 20 degrees above average this weekend. The ridge is still situated over the central US. This allows for another mild day anywhere from the 4 corners to the Midwest. Temperatures will be so warm in spots that several records are in jeopardy. Temperatures will get close to 80° in Kansas, making it feel more like summer than the middle of winter. Don't get too comfortable in your shorts....winter returns in a BIG way. A nasty blast of arctic air will invade the northern US for the start of the work week. By Wednesday, the cold air seeps all the way south through Texas. Most spots need to be prepared to a 30 to 50 degree temperature drop in 48 hours. Get your long johns ready!
