DENVER, CO - Denver has finally seen its first significant snow this season, with 6.5 inches reported downtown. The highest totals are coming down in the higher elevations, with 10.3 inches reported in Genesee.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/1-1764814187103.png">The "Mile High" city recorded its first snowfall of the season two days after Thanksgiving as a strong trough moved through the northern Rockies. To count as measurable snow, it needs to accumulate to at least one-tenth of an inch, which the Denver airport doubled with that quick round of snowfall Saturday morning. The first snow date of November 29th makes it Denver's 2nd latest start to the snow season on record, with 2021 being the only year with a later first snow.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-29 082401-1764430054403.png">The snowfall also ended a long streak of snowless days, tied for the third-longest since record-keeping began.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-29 082406-1764430062849.png">Winter weather alerts remain in place across portions of the Colorado Rockies, New Mexico, and Texas/Oklahoma Panhandle through tomorrow morning.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/1-1764814235250.png"><h1>Forecast Snow</h1>Our first round of snowfall will wrap up through tonight across the Rockies and I-25 corridor for additional storm totals of 1-3".<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/New Baron Video 3-1764814328327.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Another round of snowfall is in store for these regions, with even more snowfall possible into portions of Utah as a frontal system dives in. Precipitation with this looks to pick up Friday into Saturday and wrap up by Saturday.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/12031-1764800718196.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>There are already winter alerts in place for the next round of snowfall.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-03 152541-1764800758401.png">With today's round and our late week round, snowfall totals may reach upwards of a foot in the higher elevations.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/1-1764814416275.png">This snowfall is more than welcome for some of the ski resorts in the Rockies. With not that many runs open, 18-24" in places like Steamboat Springs will make a difference. Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

The Northern Tier of the country is no stranger to cold, and with that being said, another shot of arctic air is here for the next few days. High and low temperatures will be well below average! It is going to be a chilly start for a lot of folks on Thursday morning. Temps will be digging below zero for portions of the Northern Plains and Midwest. Minneapolis will start the day at -6°. Mason City will be -13° on Thursday morning, so make sure to bundle up for your morning commute.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-03 191102-1764814269852.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-03 191042-1764814281754.png">High temperatures will also be below average. Minneapolis has an average high of 33° for this time of year, and will only see 17° for a high on Thursday. Chicago is expected to reach a high of 17° on Thursday, which is below its average high of 41° for this time of year.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-03 191134-1764814319776.png">The cold air will move eastward and bring temperatures significantly lower in portions of the Northeast and Ohio Valley. Burlington, VT, will wake up to 4° on Friday morning.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-03 191222-1764814346874.png">This cold air will bring the potential for record lows. Cities like Chicago, Indianapolis, and Pittsburgh have the potential to break those morning low records. Arctic Blast to Bring Dangerous Conditions to Millions

Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. NORTHWEST - We're in for a stormy and snowy pattern from the Pacific Coast to the Rocky Mountains. Rain starts to push onshore early Thursday morning across the Pacific Coast and spreads east throughout the day to the Intermountain West. This will fall as snow over the mountains. By Thursday night, the frontal boundary moves onshore, bringing another push of rain and snow.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/12-03_rnw new-1764809058416.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>With a couple of rounds of rain and snow, totals could be quite high across the west. Our forecast models have totals along the coast and in the foothills of the Cascades reaching upwards of 5 inches.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-03 172511-1764810443450.png">As this moisture moves up the mountains, snowfall totals will climb. The heaviest looks to happen in the Cascades of Washington and the Rockies. Northwest Storms Bring Snowy, Rainy Weather

Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

Multiple low pressure systems moving across the country will bring heavy rain to the Gulf Coast through the end of the week, but on the northern periphery of these lows cold air will linger to turn rain into snow and ice! Freezing temperatures from Thursday into Friday will be in place from northern Texas through Virginia, where spotty snow &amp; ice are expected to fall.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-03 090302-1764777794026.png">Snow will begin in the Southern Plains as the low pressure system exits the Rockies. Areas in northern Texas into Central Oklahoma could see minor snow &amp; ice accumulations late Wednesday into Thursday. As the precipitation shifts east, minor accumulations in Arkansas become possible Thursday afternoon into Thursday night, through a better chance for the wintry weather will pick up over Tennessee and Kentucky late Thursday into Friday. Virginia into North Carolina and some areas around the Chesapeake Bay will see a round of mostly snow Friday morning, with moderate ice accretions possible along the Blue Ridge Escarpment in Western North Carolina.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/New Baron Video 3-1764813709039.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Snow accumulations look mostly minor, generally 1-3 inches, but higher elevations in the Blue Ridge Mountains could see some 3-6 inch totals. Freezing rain and sleet aren't expected to cause major issues, but elevated surfaces (like bridges and overpasses) could be slick, primarily in North Carolina Friday morning.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/1-1764813790902.png">Winter alerts have now been issued for parts of Texas and Oklahoma for the impacts of light snow and sleet! Thursday's commute could be affected especially along Interstate 40.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/1-1764813887290.png">The WSSI for Ice highlights areas (below) where ice accretions could cause some issues. Yellow regions could see minor impacts, including near D.C., parts of Virginia, North Carolina and Mid South!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/1-1764813935274.png">

Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

MONTANA - A clipper system has been moving through the Rockies and High Plains and brought upwards of 4-7" of snowfall across portions of Montana. More snow is in store across the Northern Plains to Midwest to Northeast as the clippers move through.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/New Baron Video 3-1764813457932.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>These totals will pile up across the northern plains, with the highest totals staying out west across the Northern Rockies.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-03 162020-1764804026521.png">Gusty winds will also play a role in the forecast. We can expect rounds of 25-30mph wind gusts. In some cases, maybe even higher than that! Watch out for those wind chill temperatures as they will drop as the winds come through with each clipper system.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/12-03 rnc bams3k wind-1764786148016.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Clipper systems are notorious for bringing quick-accumulating snowfall. But, even if snow totals are not significant, it doesn't mean dangerous road conditions won't be present. The Iowa Department of Transportation reports over 70% of weather-related crashes happen when there is 2" or LESS of snowfall. Northern U.S. Bracing for Multiple Clipper Systems this Week

We're hoping many Thanksgiving travelers have made it home, because this next system has brought rain, ice, and snowfall from the Mid-South to the Northeast. The combination of an upper-level low drawing in cold air and a surface low pulling in warm Gulf moisture will set some of us up for ice, others for rain, and many for heavy snowfall. So gear up for what you can expect in your neighborhood. Kansas and Nebraska already saw 2-4" of snowfall on Monday morning.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1995549367382753424" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1995549367382753424"></div><h2>Overall Set-Up</h2>Several components come into play when we talk about different types of wintry precipitation, and the temperature profile of the atmosphere is one of the most important. In this forecast, a strong upper-level low will draw in cold air aloft. At the surface, a low will pull in warm Gulf moisture. What happens between these layers determines whether precipitation falls as rain, freezing rain, sleet, a rain/snow mix, or snow.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-01 041042-1764587449453.png">Winter alerts are starting to trim back as the low pressure system pushes farther north and east, but many remain in effect through tonight.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-02 135101-1764708672189.png"><h2>Forecast Timing</h2>Based on current timing, snow will reach the Northeast through Tuesday night before the system exits offshore early Wednesday morning.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/2025-12-02 11-14-48-1764692115278.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Snowfall totals will vary depending on how cold the temperatures get throughout the event. The heaviest totals are expected to climb over 6 inches in the Northeast. Our forecast models are topping out closer to a foot for northern New England.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-02 135106-1764708709573.png">Ice accumulations generally range from a light glaze up to 0.1". When forecasts show totals approaching 0.25" or more, power outages become possible, and travel can become nearly impossible.

Gulf Low turns Coastal Low as Millions Brace for Plowable Snow

GULF COAST - Starting along the Gulf coast, a low-pressure system has emerged to bring soaking rain to our Gulf states through the overnight hours, to the Southeast Coast on Tuesday morning, and through the Atlantic Seaboard on Tuesday.This surface low will pull in tropical moisture and produce downpours across the South and Southeast, where temperatures will be warm enough to support rain and even a few thunderstorms. On the northern side of the system, ice and snow will become an issue across portions of the Mid-South, which you can read more about <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/gulf-low-bringing-heavy-precipitation-across-the-nation">here.</a> As mentioned above, rain has begun and will continue to saturate the south into Tuesday before paralleling the Atlantic Coast on Tuesday.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/12-01 rse to rne-1764644703384.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>The Storm Prediction Center has kept a MARGINAL risk for severe storms in the panhandle of Florida through Tuesday. The risk of a tornado or two will be there, along with damaging straight-line winds.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/web1-1764692285197.png">With deep Gulf moisture and embedded thunderstorms, heavy rain may oversaturate soils and lead to isolated flash flooding. However, this is largely beneficial rainfall as these areas have been struggling to get much rain recently. Gulf Low To Produce Rain & Storms Along Coast

Patrick Crawford has always been a huge weather buff! He grew up in Plano, Texas, and it was there that he experienced what Mother Nature was capable of doing. He would always turn on the television to see what local meteorologists were saying about the weather. That's when he realized he wanted to be a meteorologist.

Patrick graduated from Northern Illinois University (’04) with a degree in Meteorology and a double minor in Mathematics and Geography. Broadcast Meteorology has been great to him and he has been able to work in television markets all across the country. Some of his stops have included New Orleans, Green Bay and even Yuma, Arizona. He is so excited to be part of the WeatherNation team.

He has been awarded the prestigious CBM (Certified Broadcast Meteorologist) weather seal from the American Meteorological Society.
